Here we go Bart....I'm hoping that this build will be informative and helpful to some and at least eye candy for others. As it progresses I'm sure there will be screw ups and gremlins that have to be dealt with but if nothing else it may keep some of you from repeating our boo boos in your own builds....in other words Rick & I will use our coin and time to (with any kind of luck) save you some $, time and frustration. Rick & I after some head scratching' and our usual bantering back & forth collectively decided to keep the F40 a V-8. Had to chuckle a bit when Rick said " Stay with the V8. It's a hot rod, not a Beverly Hills grocery getter". Anyway on to the pictures...... Here's some out of the box Pocher kit pieces for the front covers and alternator....in my mind, no better or worse than any other kit. A bit lacking in detail perhaps considering the cost of Pocher stuff, but that's for you guys to decide.

Boy does that ever jog the ol' gray matter....been there many times in another life. Fruit stand, tourist trinkets, cheesy motel & restaurant.........took some serious downshifting to get thru Ha, Ha " downtown without getting a green stamp.

Thanks Jim.

Thanks gang....the battle field & burned out wreck just about done.....here's some pics for ya.

Talked to Rick, he's good with the sketch and sent me a Pocher F-40 engine kit so it's heater time.......not too shabby with the twin turbos and all but we're going outside the box for this cruiser........I hope some of you Ferrari guys will keep me on track with the wiring etc. Haven't decided yet whether to put a distributor on the thing...or use coil pacs and 'puter. Here's a pic of the Pocher kit I'll being using for those of you that are unfamiliar with it....... Looks like a lot of pieces but there's parts for complete engine and another partial engine. Rick also included most of a trans kit (hardware). Now we all know there's no substitute for cubic inches and I have a spare block etc. I can leave this as an 8 cylinder or make a (fantasy) 10 cylinder, If I was going to do a 12 cylinder I'd have used a Testarossa engine.

Thanks guys, Rick hasn't seen this sketch yet so it may change but here's my first draft......I wanted to retain the overall visual recognition as a Willys but being it's going to have a Ferrari engine I borrowed a few styling bits from the Enzo. I also want it to be a bit more contemporary than simply a retro rod Woody. Whatcha think? Input is more than welcome. .

In case you're wondering why it's called Wildwood....it's simply because it's going to have wooden coach work...in other words - a Woody. We are going to build a woody that is as politically correct and acceptable at the country club as it is with a long board on the roof at the beach. I'm not going to just slap some veneer & balsa together and call it a day...it will be properly framed out and I'll use some rather exotic woods for the skin. Luxury interior.....with all the bells and whistles. A little bit hot rod, custom, show car, luxury beach cruiser...........what more could you want in a daily driver? Shoot, I think even the Donald would approve......hee, hee.

Well let's get this show on the road.......the pics don't do these wheels justice......they were fabricated and laced by Chris Garcia. The disc brake rotor is a TDR item. Rick G. had these wheels custom made by Chris for a project he had been working on....they are gorgeous. I'll be stripping the red paint and more than likely faux anodizing them, adding a valve stem, some big & little white sidewall tires and use them on Wildwood.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This project will be called "WILDWOOD". My pal Rick & I will be designing and building the car. We have a concept in mind and are finalizing the overall design now. It'll be a one off 1/8th scale model that we would build full size if money were no object and we had a completely equipped machine shop and every tool known to either of us. In other words either one of us would be thrilled to have it parked in our garage. What I can tell you so far is that it will be powered by a blown (yes, I said blown not turbos) Ferrari F-40 V-8 engine. Power rack & pinion steering, 4 wheel power disc brakes, air conditioning, independent front & rear suspension.......some will be functional. Working head, tail, dash, dome lights, doors.......roll up windows will function etc. If I can get speakers small enough it will have tunes as well! It will also have "real" 1/8th scale wire wheels. It'll be based on one of the Madd-Fabricators Willy's fiberglass bodies and we'll be using a bucketful of TDR parts. The chassis will be a combination monocoque & tube space frame. Yeah, it's certainly not going to be inexpensive to build but we'll manage!

STRIPTEASE 49 MERC (The Sultana of Old Burlesque)
GrandpaMcGurk replied to Dr. Cranky's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Good grief...my smileys aren't working or I put a bunch of them here......way to go Virgil!!! -
Thanks Doc...I'm pleased it's bringing you a grin. I feel (at times) folks tend to stereotype "Toon or Theme" cars as why bother builds that don't have a place in the model building community. Kinda like Donks, Edsels, die casts & snap kits, hee, hee. Actually I have an ulterior motive with this one...it's got plenty of detail, it's reasonably to scale and a ball to build. In my mind (what little I have left) modeling is 'posed to be enjoyable and relaxing. It really doesn't trouble me much if no one likes it.....I figure if someone does, they can make up their own story to go with it......in other words, model car building (to me) is whatever blows my skirt up. Once again, thanks for the kudos.

Lots more to do....but it's getting there. Here's some eye candy - Crushed '65 Chebie Impala 750 HP turbine engine Quad M-60 belt fed machine guns Rocket tubes '57 Caddy Eldorado Brougham body Alien Rat and his hairy combat vehicle....hope to have this "Toon Car" under glass before the end of Ira's contest.

Beautiful build Steve, I was wondering how those wheels were going to work out for you....they look great on the Chevy. I'm almost done with the goofy DUB body you sent me, many thanks, it's working out perfectly for what I'm using it for.

Carroll Shelby tribute community build.
GrandpaMcGurk replied to wgflatliner's topic in Community Builds
Hey gang.....for you guys that are getting involved in this tribute build to Mr. Shelby you might find this build interesting or helpful.....(FOR INFO ONLY!) Below is a link to another site and non-members won't be able to post there, however there is some great eye candy to look at or perhaps use for reference. I don't think I'm stepping on anyone's toes but if so, I'm sure Harry will delete this post. http://www.scalemoto...7-roadster.html -
GETTING STARTED (Revell Style)
GrandpaMcGurk replied to Dr. Cranky's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Good grief......all along I thought that printed folded paper was just scrap packing material....oh well, no wonder I always have a lot of leftover parts. -
Dang.......I'm glad I only have to do 2 of these rotors (they're metal), still have more holes to drill, add studs for the rims and a lot of clean up - polishing to do on 'em.
-
Started on the front suspension...... I slipped a piece of aluminum tubing ( for strength) inside some plastic tubing for the front axle. Laminated & clamped some scrap plastic together with M.E.K to form a rough spindle mount. Here's a pic of one of the axle ends filed down & primed with the roughed out other side for comparison. I guess it's time to fab some spindles & disc brake rotors........

1/12 Shelby GT500 build...on hold for the moment.
GrandpaMcGurk replied to brodie_83's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Brodie...the 'Stang looks great , way to go. If you don't have plans for the body you took the wheels from P.M. me, might be able to work something out. -
Real or Model #191 FINISHED!
GrandpaMcGurk replied to Harry P.'s topic in Real or Model? / Auto ID Quiz
I'm going to have to guess model...simply because the props and floor carpeting look like model stuff. -
That's going to be quite a drive for Rob, Jim. Hang on to the old tips you have...you may need them. I did a tute about this on another site & my technique is similar to Robs. I don't want to hijack his thread but if he doesn't mind I'll see if I still have the pics and post them here for those interested? It does take practice so I wouldn't recommend that anyone try it on a model they want to hang on to without practicing on a junker first. Some folks have mentioned plastic dissolved in solvent and I use that method also......but there are some things that as far as I'm concerned "welding" is the way to go....especially in larger scales. However....head Rob's warnings........melting plastic not only stinks, will burn your fingers sooner or later and I'm sure chain smoking cigars would be better for your lungs.

I've had photobucket for years and have no reason to use anything else. -
OK Beer drinkers, I need an opinion...
GrandpaMcGurk replied to Bonekrosha's topic in WIP: Model Cars
If you want to be different how 'bout an 8 pack? A barrel per cylinder seems fair, 4 downdraft Webers in a row with velocity stacks or a cobble up a cross ram manifold and and run 2 side-drafts over each valve cover.............just a beer drinkers thoughts.
