  1. Being safety conscious and knowing this ride is going to be handful, Mr. Bones now has a skid lid. I can't get him to use the chin strap so it's just flapping in the breeze. I'm posting large photos so I tossed a nickle in the pics give you a better grasp on the actual size of his head.
  2. So what's up with Cuda? I realize this body has been a long time coming so I'll take the time to give you guys the whole picture and this is the last post I'll be making in this thread! Here's a brief history of the whole situation. The master for the body was listed on eBay, apparently someone had started the project for a client as "promo" ? and his client backed out. A group of you got together and the master was purchased. The original intention was to cast it in resin...that's all well & good but didn't work out very well. There was only one body cast - it was totally unusable. Due to the circumstances the original caster was under at the time....the project was doomed. A substantial amount of time and money was dumped into rubber molds, resin etc. by the original caster........all this was absorbed by him as a loss. Rather than see the project die a slow death I agreed to take the project over and lay the bodies up in fiberglass, that's the only involvement that TDR (as a group) has had in it up to this point. I have some things to take care of at the moment but I'll continue this post a little later today explaining the rest of the story and why it's taken so long. BTW...yes the bodies are (finally) going to happen.
  3. Ya think? You figure the handsome devil needs a "SHINY" gold tooth for a little extra bling?
  4. I applied some waxed ship rigging cord with CA to bones skull to simulate the sewn seams and chin straps on the aviator cap.......I'm using electrical tape to do the individual panels as it looks like polished leather to me.
  5. Harry, was he a master debater or a cunning linguist?
  6. I know we have plenty of time.....but how many of you guys have started your F.A.S.T. club '40 build? Just curious. It would be kinda cool (if we manage to get our horsepower show together) to display them at the Castro Farm. I've started mine.....but man, I just have to say I've worked with better kits.......it's going to take some serious head scratchin' to turn this one around.
  7. Christian, if you already have the Mercedes kit...with a little kit bashing it really doesn't appear that it would be too difficult to cobble up a reasonable facsimile from sheet styrene, etc. and save a bunch of coin?
  8. Here's a few close-ups. I was considering giving him a Mohawk but changed my mind and decided to make a teeny leather aviator cap & goggles instead....like the photo below.
  9. Mr. Bones isn't real fond of having his picture taken but I managed to grab a few shots when he wasn't looking...... Look in the background...I shot these outside and while I was shooting that potted pine withered & croaked!
  10. Rob...I can deal with most everything else in this thread....but this is wrong on soooo many levels it just plain hurts my face to look at it!
  11. No worries Doc........we'll keep a light on for you at the home, just remember they won't let us have anything sharper than a Q-Tip. Ain't too shabby....butt kickin' meds and the nurses are real sweeties!
  12. Thanks Virgil....just another kid havin' fun. Haven't seen Eyegore in awhile, is he feelin' okay?
  13. I watched it.....sorry, wasn't impressed to say the least. Making pork out of pig poop is one thing, but I could care less about J.J's personal dilemmas, attitude, personal views or whatever. Honestly guys...don't care why he had to bail on the west coast or his love life. WILL NOT WASTE MY TIME WATCHING IT AGAIN!!!!
  14. Ol' school cork valve cover gaskets and fuel proof carb gasket material just for good measure.... Coil and water hoses have been added...now I have to do hose clamps....man, it just never ends, mumble, mumble, moan & groan and so forth. Just kidding, I'm having a blast building this thing...thanks for the inspiration Ira. You know, there's been a lot of chatter about folks on evil bay having more money than sense, so just for giggles...when this thing is done, I'm considering listing it with a stupid price just to see what happens........should be interesting don't you think?
  15. Thanks Ray, stay tuned.....I may have another thing or two you haven't seen before. Dem bones, dem bones, dem dry bones........don't go there Bart, I don't need another tune stuck in my feeble brain.
  16. Thanks guys, glad it's pleasing your orbs. So far it's pretty much hit the mark for what I was trying do. I wanted it to at first glance with the body down appear to be just a cool hot rod lead sled.........but surprise, surprise...with the body flipped up...a 70's era full house funny car.
  17. Put a damper on the crank snout (harmonic balancer). Have to be able to time the thing so I added a timing mark & tab, Started to tinker with some of the accessories...carbon fiber fan, alternator and coil.
  18. That's wild Erik....here's the last pic for this thread. She's getting ready for paint, next stop Under Glass.
  19. Ira...check these out...scroll down to the frog eyes and peek at some of the other pages. http://www.etsy.com/shop/6060
  20. Cutting down this valve cover was a pain in the butt because of all the compound curves and indentations but here's what I wound up with.....still need to drill the plug holes and add the cover bolts. The textured paint is just the base coat, I'll be painting them flat black to simulate a "wrinkle" paint finish. Anyone interested in seeing how it was cut down and assembled......if so I'll post pics of the other side as I do it.
  21. Test fit.........looks like I'm going to have to smooth those carbs out a little.
