  1. Got a little off topic there but that's what modeling forums and clubs (in my mind) are for. I'm sure someone will say that should have been a how tip...not stuck in the zonker thread. Well spank me and send me to the corner.....as far as I'm concerned, if I post my way of doing this or that in this thread and anyone want's to know how I did it......please feel free to ask. Back to the eye candy......... part of a 1/6th water pump cut down, added some bells and whistles and this is what came out. The inspection cover was rough shaped from Ren Shape along with the body of the 4-speed trans, that odd looking bit of white plastic will be the mechanical clutch lever........we didn't have juice clutches back in the day.
  2. Here you go pal....... The chassis on the right is straight from the can......the one on the left was textured and has been washed with flat black and a little of that wonderful stuff they call "patina" added. Your call....I do believe that with a little care it would make for a pretty realistic bed coating in small scale.......ya think?
  3. Bart, I have a 1/25th chassis (was after an undercoated look) that I sprayed a while back. I'll post a pic a little later and you can decide for yourself. Fair nuff?
  4. I sprayed the block with textured paint to give it a cast look. I wasn't after the color...just the texture. This particular paint has a texture that isn't so coarse that it looks way out of scale. Yellow of course........ Now I'll have to fab up some heads, intake and a trans.
  5. Did some 2-part and primer filler, sanding and so on... Shot some more primer and it's starting to look pretty decent......but I'm not feeling it yet, too smooth....I want it to look like a cast iron block....I'll deal with that next post.
  6. Motor mounts and test fit......
  7. Now is as good a time as any to stick this cut down metal block together. Being it's butt joints and the chunks are pot metal I'm going to have to strenghten the joints a bit to prevent future cracking. Here's some pics of what I did. Block pieces tacked together with CA. I cut some strips of thin aluminum to cover the seams. Mixed up and spread some JB weld (quick set) over the seams and imbedded the aluminum into it while still wet. Before it dried I smeared some more epoxy over everything. Same procedure for all the seams inside the block. Ain't pretty but it's strong and it'll never see the light of day again once the block is closed up.
  8. Aww shucks...you don't like the goofy face Adam?....how 'bout if I tweak it little...... Just kiddin' pal, I will be using the shell (NO EYE BALLS) but the mask will be white and there will be a black hood and cape that I'm going to try to flow back to the fire wall before the paint goes to screaming yellow.
  9. I had this Topo grille shell roughed out to start with...it's the plastic nose piece from the 1/12th Lindy kit. I tweaked it a little, threw some Super Sculpey at it and got to thinking.........yeah, I know...I shouldn't be doing that, right? Anyway......if I had to be right up front in harms way with bones driving this thing, I do believe I'd look a little concerned.
  10. Think you could work in a cobra (the snake not the car, lol) type hood on that bad boy?
  11. Jim, besides being a grumpy old fart, just about anyone who knows me figures I've inhaled way too much high octane vapor.
  12. Yeah, Bones works for me too Ira.
  13. Mirror was okay and Starfire is even better.....but (in my twisted mind) "Pegasus" tickles my fancy.
  14. Thanks Vince.....Mr. Bones was given to me years ago by an ol' gear head buddy. It's fully articulated as you can see by the way I've posed it in the pics. All the pieces snap together (there's a bunch of 'em), ball & socket joints etc. If you're asking if one could be purchased somewhere...I have no idea. I searched the net a few times quite a while back but never came across another.
  15. "What, me worry?" yeah Tim I've considered Alfred E., Mickey Mouse with an attitude...even Betty Boop in fish net stockings with a mini skirt. Anyway, just for giggles here's "Mr. Bones" trying the body on for size.
  16. Works for me......that's one homely dude Ira.
  17. Thanks guys, I appreciate it. Help me out a little if you would... I'm having trouble deciding who's gonna drive this thing, on one hand Mr. Bones is ready to strap in, on the flip side there's always the Rat Finks alter ego. There's the fancy lad with the billboard grin and the list goes on. I know the car isn't done yet but given what you've seen and knowing how far fetched this build is, who or what would you like to see crammed in that tiny Topo as a driver.....NO REAL PEOPLE PLEASE....... I don't want to play there!
  18. Time to do a little body work, as you can see in this photo the roof has been chopped at the front (only) to give it a foward raked appearance. When the rear wheel wells were opened up the rear bottom corner of the doors was lost....suppose I could leave them as is but like they say..."the devil is in the detail"....., besides it would drive me nutz. Also the body lines on this Lindy body weren't all that crisp anyway. I re-scribed the doors to make them work with those honkin' wheel wells, also started filing in some body lines and drip rails....I think I'm going flare or put a lip on the wheel wells when I add the inner tubs. Oh my....there just might be a cool Topo hiding in this hunk of plastic. I'll be mixing up my own paint for this thing.....I don't think anyone has Screaming Yellow on the shelf....LOL.
  19. It's pretty much like the box art Jim...what you see is what you get. It does however have some rather cool decals for the wood bed planks and metal strips. There are also decals for the side boards. I like the rolled and pleated molded in headliner......not sure about the button tufted bench seat and door panels though.
  20. Great suggestions Terry, however, it's just an old worn out shop 50's Caddy engine that is in dire need of a total rebuild. It's there simply to check fit and clearances.
  21. So what do you F.A.S.T. guys think of this '40 Ford pickup kit? I really like the opening doors, but man this lack luster flat-head is going in the "round file". Not much leeway for box stock builders either.
  22. I had planned on attending Jim, I hardly ever miss one of Don's shows. The last time I went I drove that $80,000 black Hemi Roadrunner for show and tell. I still have stretch marks on my face....man that car could pull some G's. Anyway...I'm crawling around on all fours right now battling a wicked chest cold.......just couldn't muster up enough steam to attend.
  23. Oh Noooooo Bart, can't do that. I can say however it's way outside the box.....and yes Jim it will be shiny!
  24. Before someone says "Hey, that doesn't belong in under glass 'cause it isn't finished!" YES IT IS! What I set out to do was depict an ol' school rod that was under construction....it'll be in tow (on the way to the paint and body shop) behind a '40 ford pickup. Can't post build pics of the '40 as it's a F.A.S.T. members build off that we are supposed to keep under wraps 'til club display day. Anyhow, here's a few shots for you to run your orbs over.......
  25. Jim, your bikes are looking great.......if you're having that much fun, give one of the large scale ones a try....lots more room for shiny paint. LOL
