  1. I used some 36 Ga. aluminum tooling foil (easily cut with scissors) to make a floor pan....looks like real aluminum because it is.
  2. Way cool, I don't believe I've ever seen anything you've built that I didn't like. I don't view your models as "models"....actually they are art. Sure, you don't have to fuss about scale or mechanical correctness.........but the end result is pure eye candy. I especially like the built in motion, even though it is a static model it appears as if someone just hit the loud pedal. Thanks for the inspiration Ira....I'll call mine "Screaming Yellow Zonker".
  3. I think the Rolls looks great.......... still trying to figure out who the heck GrandpaMcGruck is.
  4. Ira, you're having altogether too much fun. Don't know whether to thank you for the inspiration or cuss at ya for planting another brain fart in my already over cluttered head. Would you mind if I played in your sand box for a bit and gave one of my own zany creations a try?
  5. I can't really picture myself going to the Oscars ???????????? But if I did, I guess it would have to be something like this........
  6. Getting there.....have to do a little more paint detailing, run brake & fuel lines........and then I'll be able to deal with hanging the mufflers, side pipes and the rest of the exhaust system. Jeez, this started out to be an easy build (just an engine swap) and somehow morphed into ?
  7. Ha, I like that...maybe I'll paint a Betty Boop caricature on the top of the boat tail.
  8. Mine is a full custom......still in the major overhaul stage. So far it has a tapered section and a fastback roof line.....many more mods including a chopped top to come.
  9. Just about have the front suspension done and went searching for some suitable tires (the kit tires were way too small & skinny)...after scrounging thru the parts box, unbuilt kits etc. I found nothing that would fill up the huge wheel wells with a super wide white wall on a classic looking tire. Anyway, I had some 2 piece plastic tires from an old Revell Caddy kit and decided to modify, paint and make them fit the wheels I'm using. I was hoping they would give me the look I was after. I haven't finished painting them yet but just had to do a mock-up for a little eyeballin'. Yeah buddy..... this is going to be one fat white on a tall classic looking tire, works for me.
  10. Sterling work, great custom!
  11. Gotta love those ol' school gassers.....nice job on the "speed holes" in the frame.
  12. http://www.google.com/search?q=Ed+Roth+Rat+Fink&hl=en&rlz=1T4ADBS_enUS266US266&prmd=imvnso&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=J1lFT-yVOeahsgK61pjDDw&ved=0CFkQsAQ&biw=1326&bih=665 http://www.ratfink.com/
  13. Impressive detailing...did you make the wire looms?
  14. I like it a lot Ira...great flowing body lines. Are you planning on leaving the Cord pop up bug eye headlights? Hmmmmmm....... wonder how Jag XKE style head lights frenched into the fenders would look, without the chrome surround trim.
  15. The basic frame is painted with textured "Fusion for plastic". Here's a few pics of it coming together. A little more paint detailing, some assembly and I'll have a rolling chassis. At that point I'll deal with the multi piece body. I think I'll attempt to either have the entire nose tilt forward or at least the hood and grille as one piece.
  16. Thanks Romell, don't think the blower whine would drown out the golfers whinning about landing in sand traps. One of my buds asked me what kit I used as starting point......actually it was 2 kits. I bought the Lindy kit on ebay for 5 bucks and change......about all I'll use is the body and a few parts. As you can see from the scanned directions below it's not exactly broken down with detail. I cut the entire center out of the belly pan and used square stock for the X-member, built motor mounts for the BB Chevy etc. From the Vette I'm using the engine, modified front & rear suspension components and a small section of the pan to mount the rear. I bought it for under 10 dollars at Michaels (with 50% Off coupon).
  17. Thanks JIm, not sure how much I'll need yet......I'll probably just order some as I'm getting low on chrome anyway.
  18. Guys, this box stock dilemma is nothing new....it's a bugaboo we all trip over once we have built a few models. You have that burning desire to individualize your model, detail the woof out of it and make it something that you can point to and say "I did that". Here's a quick fix.......get outside your comfort zone! Instead of building something that bugs you to add all those little things that you know are supposed to be there....try something like this that you may not be familiar with... It's 1/12th scale, highly detailed, chrome and brass plated parts, pin stripping decals, the plastic parts are for the most part in their proper colors and it even comes with it's own display base. Built right from the box with a little paint here and there it makes a great display model. Over 300 parts and very enjoyable to build. The finished model looks just like it does on the box. I built one years ago and was quite pleased......however, it's now time to again detail the B Jeeze out of one, I got PKs photo CD of the real deal and have been doing some research so as the dust settles I've come to realize that once you build one model of anything you can pretty much forget box stock.
  19. Yeah buddy, not sure if it's the animal waste product sanwiches you're eating but whatever...keep it up!
  20. Thanks guys.......I figure if Ira likes it I must be doing something right! Charlie, although it's not set in concrete yet, right now (subject to change) I think I'm going to go with basic metallic black on the fenders and top of the body. Metallic gold or silver dust for the sides with maybe a red or blue pistipe separating the colors to give it some bling. As for the wheels I'll see if I can scrounge up some kind of wires with gold backing plates....white walls of course. Jim....does Rob's carry gold BMF? I'm thinking I might go with some gold trim rather than chrome. Here's a couple of pics of my scratch built distributor and vacuum advance, now I can finish up the plug wires.
  21. I did a loose mock-up to make sure everything was going to fit......one of my goals was to get the blower, dual quads and exhaust to fit under the hood without having to cut any holes in the hood. Whoopee, it all fits!
  22. The heads on this one are Kyrlon Brushed Metallic Satin Nickle, the bell housing, intake manifold and oil pan are Metallic Matte Aluminum also Krylon. It it sprays well, dries in 15 minutes or less and you get big 11oz. can for under 5 bucks at Wally World.
