Brian to my knowledge, receiving a package from Asia does not entail incurring charges from customs. I've ordered dozens of packages and have never been charged nor seen mention of US Customs fees. The package will pass through customs hands upon entering the country but that's it. Think the auction you looked at is misleading.

Bending Plastic Tubing
shucky replied to Mooneyzs's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Chris no worries, we all learn everyday! Something to keep in mind, for really tight bends regardless of diameter use solid styrene rod not tubing. It really prevents a lot of the problems associated with bending. -
Bending Plastic Tubing
shucky replied to Mooneyzs's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The filling the tube with something trick (like sand or salt) was meant to prevent kinks in bent aluminum tube. Not sure how beneficial or necessary it is when bending styrene tube. When at room temp, styrene is fairly flexible. It can be bent and coiled quite easily. If finessed with just the right amount of tension it will actually stretch slightly to accommodate very tight bends. Normally though, it does not hold it's shape without some additional tubing inserted inside as others have pointed out OR it being bent using heat which is the method I prefer. Inserting tubing inside has it's limitations depending on how tight your making a bend and of course the shape your trying to achieve. You can make quick work of bends using very light candle flame heat and some practice. -
Roger, I'll second what Dave said about the rubber O Rings. They would look perfect in this application. Visit your local hardware store and take a look or order virtually any size possible from McMaster Carr online. I recently worked on some to fit billet drag wheels and turned down the center section flat on a high speed drill for frontrunners on a drag Mustang project.

Jeff that looks wonderful I'm going to have to pick one of these up as soon as its available. Awesome! -
Hi folks, just wanted to report that HD102 large street turbo will be unavailable for a little while. The last round of orders deteriorated both sets of molds for the unit so it will be unavailable until new molds are made in the coming weeks. An update will be made when they are ready to order again. Thanks as always, Mike

Hey Phil, glad the turbos arrived. Your putting in a good amount of work here so you may want to listen to these guys so the turbos are installed correctly. It would be a shame to put in this much work and create all of the piping only to route all of it incorrectly. Keep up the good work. Well it looks like we typed our posts at the same time. May I recommend large diameter solder for the intercooler piping. You'll be able to make nice clean and realistic bends with it.

Anyone going to the Detroit Autorama? I'll be there first thing in the morning and I always take plenty of pics. It's usually an amazing show!

I'll be there also. Always find a couple nice buys there -
Hi Neil, IMO Sculpey clays are too brittle and delicate for this type of work. You'd want to ensure your master holds up to the molding process in the event you need to make a new mold. I'd suggest using styrene of various shapes to permanently modify or scratch build. You can use bondo or body filler for smoothing out the work. However, something that has served me very well is an amazing product from Aves called Apoxie Sculpt. This stuff can be shaped into endless varieties, air dries, dries rock solid, adheres to nearly any surface, can be drilled, tapped, can hold a sharp crease, etc. Its also very easy to work with and shape as well as sand smooth. No cracking whatsoever, and zero shrinkage. Its really amazing for body work and holding specific shapes. Good luck!

John there is still hope on the horizon. I'm a couple weeks away from FINALLY getting samples of my pro touring tires. It's been a long process and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it'll be worth the wait. I'll be keeping the resin catalog small which will allow me time to work on my own projects and keep this being a wonderful hobby for me. The last thing I want to do is turn something I've enjoyed for so many years into what seems like actual work. In order to keep things simple, casting tires for anything other than personal use was out of the question. Soooooo I made the decision to invest time in working with an injection molder to do tires. If all goes well with the pro touring tires, the next design will indeed be the M/T drag radilals. I'm hoping everything goes well so I can finally bring these to market. In other good news, I've heard personally that another resin caster will be coming out with an additional two designs of drag radials! Thanks for being patient and stay hopeful everything pans out.

Does Detroit Autorama still have a model car contest?
shucky replied to ian ashton's topic in Contests and Shows
George, I'll be there on saturday. I go every year. I'll try to look you up around the models and say hi! -
I just had it last week! I was sick for about 5 days. 2 of which were VERY VERY bad. My doc said it was viral not something I ate. It was probably the worst stomach related flu I've ever had.
