  1. When I first opened this thread I wasn't too sure about that body color. As I glanced through it, that color has grown on me. That is one nice looking Firebird!
  2. Thanks, Gramps, that is what I will do. I sure don't want another can blowing up! I was checking the Hobbylinc site out again. They have the Testors Hugger Orange, but only in a bulk of three. It drives me nuts how they bulk up stuff like that. I don't want three of them, I just want one. I like their site, otherwise, as they have a large selection of just about everything. Are 1/4 oz. bottles only sold in stores? I can't even find them on Testors' own website. They seem to only want to add 1/2 oz. bottles to my cart. 1/2 oz. is good and all, but I don't want 1/2 oz. bottle for some color I might only need very little of. Hobbylinc only has 1/4 oz. bottles in bulk.
  3. Thanks guys. What are some other colors you think I will need? I'm thinking a flat black, amber for the turn signals, and silver for the trim and maybe engine. Other than those three, I haven't a clue. I know the instructions and sometimes the boxes will tell you what colors you need, but that is hard to do when you have to order online. As far as decanting a spray can, I just read one way that it might be possible to do. The idea is to turn the can upside down and spray the air out. Then, punch a hole in the can pour out the remaining liquid. Is that a safe way to do it? I sure don't want to be wearing the paint! I already accidentally blew up a can of engine cleaner in the house some years back. I wasn't trying to decant it. For some reason it was sitting on the couch. I dropped a pair of scissors on the cushion and they bounced right into the can. I ran the can outside as fast as I could!
  4. I think I have pretty much settled on this kit as my foray back into modelling. I'm just wondering, what paint do you think I will need for it? I've pretty much settled on Hugger Orange as the body color. I'm hoping DupliColor has a color similar. I've got an Advance Auto nearby so I can check there sometime. Does anyone know what DupliColor's version might be called? Does DupliColor come in small cans, too? I see a lot of spray cans for it on these forums but not any regular cans. Since I've got an airbrush in shipment, it would be a waste to get spray cans. I'll use DupliColor primer and clear since it will (hopefully) be the color I work with. As far as other colors needed, I'm not sure.

    Vette's

All the Vettes in this thread are just downright beautiful! I was thinking about a '69 Camaro as my first build in a long time, but now I'm torn between that and a Vette.
  6. That truck looks superb! That black was a really nice color for it. The diorama is really cool, too.
  7. I just gotta add to all the positive comments. That thing is just way too cool! You did an awesome job on that model!

    Vette's

crispy, your Vette is amazing! I've always loved that color.
  9. I just saw the other thread like this one. I completely missed it. If the mods wanna remove this one it's ok.
  10. Your build is looking great so far! I really like the color. The vinyl top looks top notch. I'm having a tough time deciding what to build for my first build in over a decade. I think I've got more thinking to do!
  11. Being out in the country I don't have the privilege of an actual local hobby shop. I haven't seen a topic like this, but if it is a common one I apologize. Anyway, I've got a few links saved: Hobbylinc, eHobbies, Internet Hobbies, and Squadron. I'm just wondering what sites you all like.
  12. The problem with going back to Lowes or Home Depot is the same I have for my LHS (thanks for the clarification ). All three are quite a distance away (about 65-70 miles) as I live in the country. We do have a Wal-Mart nearby, along with K-Mart, Tractor Supply Co., and some miscellaneous hardware stores. I will check Wal-Mart for some fittings as they carry Campbell Hausfeld stuff. If not there, maybe TSC has some fittings. Aaron, you pretty much, in a round-about way, hit on why I went with the Harbor Freight airbrush. I know it may not be as good as one of the name brands, and some day I will upgrade. I got the HF brush to practice with. I don't want to plunk down $50-100 for a good brush to find out I really stink at it. I just wanted something that was better than a spray can. I'm trying to restart an old hobby on a budget.
  13. I wanna thank everyone for their help, especially Gramps for putting up with my questions. Anyway, yesterday I had received the shipment notice from Harbor Freight that my airbrush shipped. I didn't pay too much attention to the e-mail because I just assumed everything would be included. I get to looking at it this morning and I just see the airbrush listed. I thought that was strange so I went to the HF site to see the order status. They refunded the cost of the braided air hose, but show it as not backordered. They didn't ship it. That makes me mad. So, on the interim, it looks like I will be getting the 1/4" to 1/8" adapter like I posted in my other thread if I can find one like that. I agree the braided hose is a better choice than coil hose, but for infrequent modeling, should be sufficient for now.
  14. That is one cool kit! I'm gonna have to get it sometime. I really like the bullet holes.
  15. You've got something to be proud of for your first model! I wish my first model looked that good. Now, over a decade since I last built a model, I hope to restart the hobby. I hope my first model in a very long time looks at least that good! Keep up the good work!
  16. Well, I ordered the deluxe airbrush and 10' braided airbrush hose from Harbor Freight. Next time I get a chance, I will look for some quick couplers and a 1/4" to 1/4" adapter. Hopefully, then, I can finally find something to put together for the time in over a decade.
  17. I've got a bad habit of doing that. I promise to stop being such a PITA before too long! I like to visualize things in my mind and if I can't I get confused and start making it harder than it is. I think I understand about what you are saying about the quick disconnects - get one for each hose and then swap out the hoses. Then on the hose I want to use for other tasks, I would put another quick connect fitting on the other end. I guess I would still need the pipe nipple for the HF hose, though, right? My compressor has male ends on the hose and female hookup on the compressor. Do other air compressors have the opposite?
  18. This is the hose that came with my compressor. The picture is not the right color, though. My hose is blue. http://www.chpower.com/webapp/wcs/stores/s...87403_-1_search Whether I use the 1/4" coil hose or a 1/4" braided hose, I will probably need some sort of adapter to go to 1/8" (like what I posted in my other thread).
  19. Thanks for clearing that up. I was really starting to get concerned. I like the idea of quick couplers. I wanted a small, normal air compressor because there have been quite a few times when portable air was needed. Running an airbrush off it is just a bonus. Right now I think I am leaning towards the 1/4" to 1/8" adapter like I posted above. I could then keep the standard 1/4" hose (coil or braided, likely braided down the line when I get set up) and then just throw a quick coupler on the adapter.
  20. I didn't really think about it until now. I got to looking at the adapter I posted above and didn't think it looked like a 1/4". I measured it and the larger opening that connects to the air hose is actually 1/2". The smaller end is 1/4". The HF site says the airbrush has an 1/8" connection. Will I be able to find an adapter to go from 1/2" to 1/8" if I use the coil hose? The only reason I'm torn between the airbrush hose and coil hose is I want to use this compressor for other things, too. That's the main reason I don't really care for hobby compressors. I suppose I could eventually replace the coil hose with another type of braided hose and use a 1/2" to 1/8" adapter for that, too. I went to the Campbell Hausfeld website and looked up the coil hose used with my compressor. Their website says it has 1/4" ends. Am I missing something?
  21. I know this thread is a little old, but here is one more Michigander on the forum! I'm up in the Thumb in Harbor Beach. With fall and winter fast approaching, this area is emptying out of all the campers and summer vacationers.
  22. Awesome looking trucks! I especially like the F-150.
  23. Thanks for the reply. If I get the airbrush hose, I think I would then need a 1/4" to 1/4" type of adapter. Is such a thing available?
  24. If you read my other thread in this forum you probably know I am looking at the deluxe airbrush from Harbor Freight. I think it would be a good brush to learn with and then move up later on. I also recently got a Campbell Hausfeld 1-gallon pancake compressor. It came with a 25' coil hose. It didn't come with a regulator but I am going to try and get one. I'm hoping Wal-Mart may have one. Anyway, my compressor came with some accessories: From left to right they are: inflation needle, adapter, two inflation valves, and tire chuck. What I'm wondering is, will the adapter work with an airbrush? I'm thinking it would. Here's a couple other views. As you can see it is plastic. This kind of worries me. I tried looking on Amazon and Harbor Freight for a metal one, but I can't find anything. I just used "air hose adapter" as my search terms hoping I could see something similar. If it would work with an airbrush and I could find a metal one I'd love it. I'm not too keen on getting an additional 10' airbrush hose from HF, but will if I have to. You guys have been a great help so far and I really appreciate it!
  25. Thanks guys. I'm thinking I will just try the airbrush from Harbor Freight. It's not that much and it would be a good brush to learn with. Once I get the hang of it I will probably get a better brush. HF has a 10 ft. braided nylon airbrush hose. It has a 1/4" NPT and 1/8" NPS connection. I'm not sure what the difference between NPT and NPS is, but it looks like the coil hose that came with my compressor would screw into the 1/4" end and then the 1/8" end would go right onto the airbrush. I'm thinking I may not need the adapter. Here's the HF airbrush hose. http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/disp...temnumber=95813 When looking at the brass airbrush adapter at HF, it doesn't even look like it would work unless I had an airbrush hose with a 1/8" connection at both ends. With the hose I linked above, the adapter wouldn't be needed. Am I right? Here's the adapter. http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/disp...temnumber=47986 Thanks again guys. I appreciate the help.
