Reading your post made me take another look at the airbrush. Seeing as I don't have a Harbor Freight store nearby I got the needle-nose pliers out again. I made my pressure firm, but not strong enough to crush the nozzle. I finally got it off. I don't think I damaged it either. I can see right through it and the needle doesn't have any trouble. However, there was some white, crusty stuff on the threads. Gotta love made in China! I removed the white, crusty stuff and it screws on and off easier now. I hope I don't get lead poisoning! Overall, I was surprised how stout the airbrush felt when I got it. It sure feels solid. Right now I am waiting on getting an airbrush hose. Being in a rural area it's slow going piecing together everything I need. I hope to use the airbrush someday!

The only way that could happen to KITT is if his molecular bonded shell malfunctioned... again. Those dioramas are great. You've got a great attention to detail.

That's what I was worried about. I just figured it was worth a question. I will probably try with some Testors or use some decanted lacquer when I get the color I want.

Case 4300 Titan
JayC replied to mr moto's topic in 1:1 Reference Photos: Auto Shows, Personal vehicles (Cars and Trucks)
That's really interesting! I didn't know Case made stuff like that. What I find intriguing is that it is the Case agricultural colors. Something like that would seem out of place for ag work. -
I've been avoiding doing this. I knew eventually I would have to. As some may know, I bought the deluxe airbrush from Harbor Freight. I figure it will be a good starter. Anyway, I have been kind of intimidated taking it apart because I envisioned an explosion of tiny parts or something when I took it apart. I never have good luck with tiny mechanical things. Anyway, I was surprised how easy it was. There are not that many pieces. It should be a snap to clean it. I do have a question about the brsuh, though. When I took the nozzle head off, the nozzle remained attached. The diagram in my airbrush's instructions (can also be downloaded from Harbor Freight) show that the nozzle should be able to be unscrewed from the nozzle head. I tried to unscrew it with some needle-nosed pliers, but couldn't get it off. I think it turned, some, but still would not come out. I didn't want to put too much pressure on it, since I don't know how much it can take before being damaged. The nozzle head itself was on pretty tight and I needed pliers to get that off. I don't have to remove it, do I, when cleaning? I can see through both the nozzle and nozzle head. My second part of the question is latex. I have some latex paint left over from some interior painting I did about a couple weeks ago. Could I use that, thinned with some water, to practice with? I read that paint should be thinned to about 2 parts paint and 1 part thinner. Would that be the same with a water-based paint? Or should I just add water to get the consistency of milk?

Care to share a pic? I'm kinda curious what it looks like. Sure sounds like quite the project, though!

First models in 45 years
JayC replied to TUFF TIN's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
What a comeback! Your truck and trailers look great. I love the Pete's color. -
WOW! I just paged through all 26 pages of this thread and I am stunned! The models in this thread are absolute works of art. I cannot believe how fast you move from project to project! I'm gonna be keeping a close on this thread from now on!

Your Charger concept looks amazing! Everything just works. The color was a perfect choice and the color matched interior is superb. Your engine is just beautiful. I think you're right, the pictures don't do it justice.

So you're saying it will be ok to paint enamel on top of the lacquer clear? Thanks for the bare metal foil suggestion. I saw "BMF" mentioned but wasn't sure what it meant. I'm really liking that idea! I read where people have had success with plain old aluminum foil. Some of the pictures I saw sure look good! I never cared for the painted on chrome look, so learning about foil is really cool. Even though the PL Coronet model may not be the best one around, it is turning into one heck of a test bed from what I have been reading here! I sure am eager to finish rounding up my supplies and actually start on it.

I have been reading a lot in this forum but haven't come across this kind of topic. Eventually I am going to build the Polar Lights 1965 Dodge Coronet 500. I hate the color on it and will have to strip it off. It doesn't have the chrome pieces that some other models have. They are painted on as you can see. I plan on using DupliColor primer, paint, and clear. I'm thinking of just spraying the primer out of the can and then airbrush the color. Will airbrushing the primer give me a better overall result? Anyway, this is what I have been wondering. The "chrome" will have to be painted on (probably with Testors enamel and a detail brush). Should I prime, paint, and clear the DupliColor, then paint on the chrome (and maybe another clear coat afterwards)? Or should I paint the chrome on before clearing? I assume DupliColor clear would be a spray to, so should I just rattle can it or decant and airbrush? I read I should wait a week before clearing to let the paint finish gassing. Should I wait to paint an enamel over a lacquer?

I tried to start level 13 but I'm just not sure where to begin. I'll get it eventually. I haven't tried it yet, I want to finish the first 15 levels, but did you guys see the link a little down that page for 30 more levels? That'll sure to pass the time.

This is your first one? It's so well done your pictures look real!
-
Great Job! So, is Junior going to do a frame-off restoration?

It's a pretty addictive game. I did get past level 7. I got to level 13 before I decided I had enough. I going to try and finish the levels later on.

I came across this game a little bit ago. It is a rather addictive puzzle game. You have to arrange different power sources to power the target. Right now I am on level 7. It has a lot of mirrors and arranging them is a bear. http://www.candystand.com/play/electric-box

Thanks for the clarification of what that things is. I don't have any plans on actually using it. I'm still trying to piece everything together I will need. It's rather slow going at the moment.

I think I am actually leaning on putting it together now. I was going to go with a Camaro as a first project in a long time, but this will suffice. If I mess it up, I won't feel too bad about it. I quoted the above because I think the PL paint will definitely have to go, and I'm glad to hear it strips nicely. On closer inspection, the PL paint job just isn't that great. The chrome just looks smudged on and the inside has a lot of silver overspray. On the other side of the car, a bit over half the chrome strip isn't even painted. A part of the interior "tub" has some red residue on it as well. Since I would plan on painting just about everything it isn't a real big issue. It just makes me wish they didn't try to paint the body at all. It would have made things easier.

I love your interior! You really made it come to life! The extra details you made really enhance the kit. While looking for images of the '65 Coronet 500 I came across this one. This is the yellow one I mentioned above. I'm an absolute sucker for yellow, so that it why I'm drawn to it so much. I would try and paint it as close to this one as I could. http://www.1962to1965mopar.ornocar.com/crenshaw65.html

I like the gold color on the GTO. I didn't even know Wal-Mart had these kits if it wasn't for the $15 price tag. Definitely not the $5 some people paid! I didn't know these kits came in different colors. I absolutely hate the red color on the one I was given. After looking at some other pictures, I would probably keep the chrome strip on the side. I saw a yellow '65 Coronet that I really liked. The Ramchargers model looks great! I dunno, I'm still up in the air on this kit. Since I was given it and don't actually have any money into it so far part of me wants to try and do something with it. Then there's the other part that just completely dislikes the very mention of snap kit (and lack of detail mentioned by others). I was thinking of using the tires in a completely different, unrelated-to-cars project. I just don't know if they are the right scale and I'm not sure how to determined what scale I need. Oh well, in the box the Coronet sits.

Gramps, those paintings are AMAZING! They're top notch! If I could get to be half as good as you I would be satisfied! Sorry I didn't respond sooner as I didn't even know you replied. I rarely get e-mail notifications to my threads for some reason, even though I check the option to get notified. My airbrush finally came today. For $8 shipping, I thought it would get here sooner. The invoice said the air hose I had ordered was out of stock. Would be nice if Harbor Freight would say so on their website. When I opened it, I was kind of surprised to see this on the 1/8" connector. Is it a quick connect? I now wonder, can I get a quick connect with a 1/8" connection that would fit into a 1/4" quick connector? I never even thought about that until today.

That's a cool lookin Ram! I like the color.

Thanks guys. I guess I will toss it aside. I, too, was rather disappointed in the engine. It is just one blue-molded blob. Like I said above, I have been thinking about offering it up for trade in the swap forum, but after reading about it I'm not sure I would feel comfortable even swapping it for something else.

I was given this model kit about a year ago by a family member. I haven't really thought too much about it as I was never much into the Coronet. At the time I wasn't too interested in getting back into modelling. Now that I'm trying to get back into the hobby I got it out to look at it. I've also been debating if I wanna post it in the trading forum or not. Here's a box shot: If I built it I would probably modify it a little. I would definitely paint it a different color. I don't care for the chrome strip down the side so I would probably grind that down and smooth it out. I'm just wondering if anyone ever built this kit? Even though the box says it is skill 2, it also says it is a snap together kit without the need to paint. The instructions then say you can glue it and paint it. I took the parts bags out and had a brief look at them, but I don't know how good this kit might actually be. Is it accurate? It can be built as one of two types - stock or for the strip.
