  1. I decided to revive this thread because I have noticed something about the engine. I may be wrong, but I want to mention it. I was just looking through pictures again of the '65 Coronet. I got to looking at the engine in the kit and am wondering if it is molded as a V6? I just want to say that I know very little about engines, so I may be wrong. Let me first ask a dumb question, is it the distributor that the spark plug wires connect to? I was looking at the one with the kit and I see six little protrusions where the spark plug wires would go. There is one little protrusion in the center of the six. Where does that wire go to? Looking at the bottom of the engine block, it looks like there are three spots on each side where the wires would go. Here are a couple pics that will show what I'm talking about.

    My first WIP

Thanks for the tips, guys! I appreciate them. I never even thought to wear gloves. I think part of my problem was some of my pieces were too big. I used one piece to do the side window trim, for instance. If I used a single, narrow piece for each angle of the chrome trim it probably would have went better. I'm still not quite done with the foiling. I'm probably a bit insane for wanting to try it, but I want to put foil on the interior where it is chrome on the real thing (gotta wait for the paint to arrive first). The interior, though, has smaller bits to burnish and cut around.

    My first WIP

Thanks, Nick. I got the rest of the car chromed. One thing I have learned is that foil is VERY finicky. I about went mad when it didn't behave (which was a lot). I know it's not as good as others here, but hopefully I'll get better at it. UPS tracking says the stuff I ordered should be here on Tuesday, so I have a few days to plan some more. I used a new X-Acto knife with #11 blade and the foiling process was a bit easier. One thing I learned is that Goo Gone is great at getting rid of the excess glue residue. Just be gentle with it, because I noticed a little red on the paper towel (nothing noticeable on the car, though). I bet Goo Gone could get rid of the paint entirely. That stuff gets rid of just about anything! Here's a couple pics. Don't mind the hair. That's the price to pay for three cats and a kitten.
  4. Well, I thought it was about time I post my own WIP thread. I'm currently working on the Polar Lights '65 Dodge Cornet 500 that was given to me about a year ago. This is the first model I have worked on in over 10 years. I have some paint and supplies on order from HobbyLinc. In the meantime I got some other tools and supplies. Part pf those supplies was some cheap aluminum foil and some foil adhesive (Old World Art brand gold leaf adhesive). It was all that could be found. It seems to work ok. While I am waiting for the stuff I ordered from HobbyLinc to arrive I figured I would do some foiling on the Coronet body. I had planned on painting it a different color but decided I wanted it the red it came in. I am going to build it to look stock since that is how I would want it if I were restoring a muscle car. The paint job, especially the chrome, left a bit to be desired. On one side of the body, the chrome strip wasn't painted all the way. I did the chrome strip on both sides, the rocker panel, and the wheel wells. I have come to the conclusion that I really don't like doing wheel wells. I will finish the foiling around the windows later. I'm not too pleased with how the foiling actually turned out. Some of the edges are a bit rough and the foil didn't seem to want to cooperate too well. I used a razor blade because that was all I had on hand. I didn't have a fresh #11 X-Acto blade nearby (tried doing it with my older blade but that didn't work out too well ), but the razor blade seemed to do ok. Maybe a new #11 will work better, I don't know. One thing that I didn't like was that there was some glue residue left behind on the body. The instructions on the bottle of my adhesive says to wait until the glue goes from white to clear (about an hour). I don't put a thick coat on the back of the foil, either. Does anyone else have that problem when using aluminum foil and adhesive? I'm not going to pay $6-$8 for a sheet of BMF. That's just too much. I'll post more as I go along. Right now my "workbench" is my computer desk. When I'm done with this build I'm going start something a bit different - Revell's 1/196 USS Constitution.
  5. That is one sweet looking VW Bus! Everything just works. The colors are a great combination.
  6. Beautiful model! That is a stunning replica of your real car. I love the color on the model and the real thing.
  7. That's quite a list! There are quite a few kits listed that interest me. I especially like that Viper ACR.
  8. I love Camaros. That is a great color. This is a kit I want to get, so I'll be keeping an eye on this thread. I'll eventually want to build one in hugger orange.
  9. That model of Arizona is really cool! Cars are cool and all but my passion really lies with ships. Someday I want to do another 1/350 Titanic and also a 1/350 Lusitania. Those heavy equipment models look really cool, too! Are those scratchbuilt or are they actual kits? I'm really interested in that Insley cable excavator. There is a nice video of one on YouTube.
  10. I was wondering how the 'ol blue glue bomb was coming along. Just seeing it in primer is a thousand times better than what it was. I'm keeping an eye on this thread. I'm eager to see how the Buick looks in its new color! The '59 Lincoln is beautiful! The before and after shot is shocking!
  11. The "Wash Me" is very cool, too!
  12. The weathering job looks amazing! It is hard to believe that is the same, shiny Camaro from your other thread! I could never bring myself to get that Camaro so dirty.
  13. This Camaro is turning out to be just downright stunning. Keep up the great work!
  14. That Beetle is insane!
  15. I love it! I can almost hear the siren and see the light flashing. You should put an LED inside that bubble.
  16. This is going to be one cool build. I love Camaros and am stunned by the detail so far. The color looks great, too. When I saw the bits of interior my jaw just dropped.
  17. I completely forgot about those two movies. Those were great scenes. My favorite movie is Jurassic Park, and while it is only "half" car chase I really liked when the tyrannosaur chased the Jeep.
  18. Beautiful Supra! I really like the color. Your attention to detail is astounding.
  19. Simply outstanding! That color is just too cool. That thing would be pretty cool to see go down the slot car track!
  20. Right now, the one that comes to mind is Duel. That would probably be my favorite. That semi was pretty cool. A close second would probably be the made-for-TV movie Wheels of Terror. That was one evil, bad*** looking Charger in that movie!
  21. You've got some great pictures! Thanks for posting them!
  22. Thanks for the links. I've been to the 62-65 Mopar site before. There is a REALLY nice yellow Coronet on there (I love yellow ). I just wish the pictures were bigger. There are a lot of nice cars on that site.
  23. Thanks, Harry. I didn't think of eBay Motors. I did use Autotrader Classics. They had a few '65s, but not many.
  24. I've been through pages of results on Google and Yahoo. I know I probably missed something, that is why I am asking here. I don't usually ask on a forum for help finding general info that can be found on a search engine unless I'm stuck.
  25. I have been searching quite a bit for some info on the '65 Dodge Coronet 500. I've visited quite a few sites but haven't found any real info. Wikipedia doesn't have anything useful about the 500. Does anyone here have any good info on it? Since I have the model I want to get to know the car better, but am having a hard time doing it. I guess since the model by Polar Lights was released in three colors those are the colors the car was produced in? Were there any other colors? Does anyone know what DupliColor would be a close match for the original Coronet 500 colors? I haven't even been able to find that many good high res images. I found some smaller ones but I'm looking for larger ones so I can see all the details better. I found one or two shots of an engine, but it was modified (and smaller images). I'm looking for some high res images of a stock 500 inside and out (hopefully one restored to spec). I've tried both Yahoo and Google image searches.
