TDR Twin Turbo 426
Wayne Buck replied to arick's topic in WIP: All The Rest: Motorcycles, Aviation, Military, Sci-Fi, Figures
I can only come up with 2 words to describe this: FREAKIN' AWESOME! -
I'm wondering this as well. If it has to be an import motor, I'm gonna have to buy a kit for one unless someone has an extra 1JZ-GTE/2JZ-GTE up for trade.
-
Thanks man, I'll check it out!
-
Well in that case, I'd like to jump in on this one. I got this off of ebay a while ago for the scooter. Won it for real cheap. I think it would look kinda cool if done the right way. Does the car have to have an import engine to qualify for the build? If so, does anyone know of any toyota supra or soarer kits with nicely detailed 1JZ-GTE or 2JZ-GTE engines?

Kyle: Thank you! I guess the hoses weren't so much a problem as making an air filter box (whatever you wanna call it) that looked good on top of the 3, 2 barrels. I saw a tip on making hoses, I think it was here actually, where you wrap some thin wire around plastic rod or a piece of sprue (like you're making a spring) and then you wrap teflon tape over it. Turns out looking real good. I might try making something again. Just been real busy. Dave: Thanks! You can still use the red/white too! Don't let me stop ya. One of my favorite color combos! I actually couldn't decide if I was gonna go with black, red, or white so I let my girlfriend pick the color. She has good taste! Yeah it's 1/24 scale. Older monogram kit.

Hey guys, I've been REALLY busy lately but I managed to get a little more done on the goat. Got the body painted the other day and mocked it up real quick. Sorry for the crappy pics. I'm not too good of a photographer. Gonna start the BMF and detail work next week I hope, paint the engine compartment and finish the chassis, then I can start puttin' her together. I tried like hell to make a ram-air setup through the high beams, but I couldn't come up with anything that I thought looked good on it. Oh well... Everybody's projects look great so far!

Thanks, Matt! If I have any problems I'll let you know.
-
Thanks for the advice! I will make those changes and I guess I should try the car out before I paint it. hehe That's a great idea about slotting the holes! The whole reason I put the mounts in front of the back wheels was because I couldn't get the body on easily with it behind the wheels. Now I can see the light! If she stays on her wheels, I'll give her some nice shiny black paint.

We race at Sonny's Fastlane in Beachwood. The drag races are on Friday nights. I haven't ran on the drag strip yet though.

Wow!!! That is AWESOME! I LOVE IT!

Thanks a lot!! Just the info I was looking for! I couldn't really find any information online about building these chassis and every picture I found of one was different from the next, so I just made my best attempt. I had no idea what the gussets were for. So, I need to just slide the rear pin-tubing through the slots and let it float in there (no solder)? Could I just solder the wheelie bar wire parallel to the main rails or do they have to be one solid piece of wire to work right? And yeah, that is a pro slot fx motor. I just wanted to build something to play with and possibly bracket race if I like it enough.

SWEET!! I always wanted to build a replica of this car myself! One of my favorite movies when I was growing up. I'll be watching this build for sure!

A pair of jumper cables walks into a bar and yells to the bartender "hey let me get a drink!" The bartender then says to the jumper cables "okay, buddy, but I don't want you starting anything in here."

Well I thought I was done with slot cars the last time around but I got sucked in once again! A few weeks ago, I went into my local slot racing place to look at the model kits there and found out they had put up a drag strip. The road course racing got to be too expensive for me since I always wanted to have the best stuff and... well, you know how that goes, but I did always want to try out the drag racing stuff. This is my first attempt at building one of these. Hopefully it works ok. Not sure if I'm gonna go with gloss or satin black, but I'm pretty sure I'm going to paint it some form of black. Could I ask you experienced guys a question? I still have to make the wheelie bar. How high should it be off of the track surface, if at all? And how long should it be? I'm not trying to build a rocket ship really. Just want something reliable and fun to play with. Tips and ideas are welcome!

Which F Body Pontiac
Wayne Buck replied to Nick Winter's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Took me a while to decide... If I had to pick one to cruise around in stock for stock, I'd go with the formula as it would probably turn more of the ladies heads. If I was looking to build a nice powerful street car out of one, I'd go with the base model. I just LOVE sleepers! I'm not a real big fan of scoops and louvers and ground effects etc... that come on some of the "high end" models of cars. However, the formula of that year doesn't look bad at all in my opinion because its not loaded up with all of that stuff and the hood looks cool on it. Tough choice, but I went with the base model. I guess I'm just a "plain jane" type of guy. -
Really nice job! Reminds me of the one my father had when I was a kid. Same exact car except his was hugger orange.
-
Wow! VERY nice job on that! Looks almost real!! Awesome color as well!
-
That turned out really nice! The engine looks great and I love the color!
-
Haha! That is so cool! At least you wont cut yourself working on the engine... just gotta be careful not to get bit.

Hey guys, been really busy working lately but I did have a few chances to get some work done on the project. I have the interior pretty much done. It's all stock with the addition of a tach, some gauges and a rollbar that I fabbed up real quick. I also removed the radio. I also got the engine put together. Still have to wire it though. I'm not real crazy about the belt setup. Looks kinda stupid to me, but I will probably leave it alone. I don't know how much of it will be seen once the car is all together. I might also ditch the air cleaners, remove the high beams and build a ram-air setup like the old thunderbolts used to run. I'm trying to find some hoses for the intake tubes that look good. Sorry, diymirage, I really like the cragars on it. If you really want a set, I'll see if I can dig some up in my parts bin. They came from the ertl 70 Baldwin Motion Camaro. The fronts are deeper than the rears. Maybe now that we got some snow, I can work on this beast for a while today!
-
Not real sure about it yet... I just saw this thread and picked this kit out of my stack in the basement. It'll probably have some rake to it but not too much. I'm pretty sure I'm gonna go with steel rims in the back and cragar s/s in the front. Going for that classic drag look. I think that'll look pretty sweet on it. I want it to look like the owner drove it home from work a few hours prior and now it's ready to get on the trailer for some Friday night fun.

Hey guys, I'm pretty new to the community here and I'm having a great time looking at all of your builds! I've had this '64 GTO for about 10 years now and this looks like the perfect opportunity for it. Can I join in? I was thinking of stuffing a huge mill in it but I'm probably just gonna go with the tri-power 389, headers and slicks (60's weekend warrior style).

Thanks. The wheels are off of a little HO scale tyco Indy Car. Not sure what to do for a motor yet, but thinking about trying to scratch build a 5hp Briggs or tecumseh. I just threw it together real quick to put in a diorama I've been working on. Gotta have an old go kart sitting in the corner of the shop! By the way, not trying to hijack the thread at all, just wanted to show the nice easy bends you can make with this tubing. Here's a better picture of the frame sitting with a couple WIP's

^^^ What he said. In my LHS, there are a few different sizes of plastic coated metal rod in with the plastruct styrene stuff. I primarily use the 1/16" for roll cages. I think its called butyrate... I made this with the smaller rod the other day....

When I used to work for BMW, I collected a bunch of 1:87 BMW models. They were made by Herpa I believe. They had some really good detail in my opinion. I also bought some different ones off of ebay a while back. One of em was a 3rd gen Camaro. Hope this helps. Here: http://www.herpa.de/herpa_cms/%28S%28wk1nh...,192,0,1,0.aspx
