And even more pictures from GSL
Jairus replied to 1320wayne's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Nice picture of Mt Hood there Wayne! -

I'll get you for that Harry! (And Steve... I'm writing this down... if I can find a pen....)

Billy, There were NO NASCAR models entered this year. The racecar section was the smallest that I remember ever seeing compared to the last half dozen shows! Most popular sections seemed to be Customs, Street Rods and small scale. Numbers of entrants were down some and the overall high quality seemed slightly down as well. A lot of the "big dogs" seem to be waiting for GSL XXII... or maybe they are simply tired of competing. It takes a lot of work and time to build a competing model for that show! This is not to say that Best of Show winner Mark D. Jones didn't deserve the win! That car could have won 8 out of the last 10 shows if it had been present. It was the clear winner in my opinion and well chosen by the judges. It's just that there didn't seem to be any strong competitors willing to step up to the plate against Mark's Caterham. Makes me wonder if he scared them all off by posting the pictures on the Forum ahead of the show??? (It’s just a thought) Billy, the pictures can probably be added to your photo account. Gregg is not up yet as we stayed up pretty late last night.... but I think he "watermarked' the pictures just for that very reason. So, go for it!

Izzy, there were a few Corvettes two of them took places in box stock or maybe it was box plus.... Maybe you should consider mailing a car for the next show? (or yourself.... just poke a few holes in the box first.)
-
Kool story Bob! Maybe we can find a way to bring back the "Keeler, Paeth & Jones" drag car somehow.... I'll give Revell a call.

Good Thing! Roger Harney, in design and engineering confirmed that Hobbico just signed papers yesterday. Hobbico is an employee owned company, solid in the hobby community developing and selling RC car stuff. They have about 700 employees and were looking for a way to get through to the younger market and thus model car kits are a natural. Ed Sexton is now reinstated at his old job of Product Development and Jim Foster back behind the President’s desk. This is a good thing because the Revell staff now has the chance to produce new products or so says Roger.

Gary and Mark. I am not defending anything Don does. If he wants to ###### on this forum then he will be banned just like anyone else! Charles first post had quite a few little JABS at the “unnamed resin casterâ€. I see this as just another opportunity for the trouble makers now haunting this forum to leap into action and create a new multi-page screed on the evils of resin casting. I will not allow it! If Charles only stated the changes he had to make then there would be no problem. But using loaded phrases like “it was awful†and “almost unusable†and “glad my money didn’t go to this casterâ€!! This is NOT a helpful description for anyone wanting to build this car. I don’t know what message you guys were reading but I SEE the intent behind the words because I am a writer! Mark, I was going to remove the jab that Don posted toward Charles but now that you felt it important to “QUOTE†him and thus draw a circle around it for everyone else to see, then it stays! Way to go buddy. I am watching this thread and if it continues down the wrong path it will be closed! However, I am interested in seeing what Charles does to this car so let’s hope that is not necessary.

Jairus replied to mackinac359's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Very nice weathering.... but I would have expected nothing less from one of our favorite staff writers! Way to go Tim. -

Charles, Yeah, we all have a lot of work to do after purchasing a new kit or resin body. Never seems like the product fits our desires. But that is what makes this a hobby. Otherwise we would be satisfied with buying an already done and painted die cast. But I have to wonder why you complain about having to make changes to something… when that is what this hobby is all about? Are you expecting these things to come out of the box pre-painted? A lot of the work, the wide body for instance, is already done for you. Otherwise, you and I would have probably started with a basic plastic kit and done all the hard work our selves. Lets keep the complaining and negativity out of the forum please. Resin bodies will never be produced in as nice a quality as a molded plastic body. This is generally because each and every one is hand made! Oh and another thing, you started with a body that was never intended to be built as a fully detailed car. It was suppose to be built curbside my friend…. I do however, look forward to seeing your progress on what looks to be a cool street machine!

Tamiya Lexan Paints....
Jairus replied to Len Geisler's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The Testors for Lexan is lacquer! You can spray it on plastic if it has first been primed with PlastiKot primer. Otherwise, your better off staying with enamels and mixing your own paints... However, I still mix my Testors/Practra paints 50/50 with Acrylic lacquer thinner prior to spraying. Here is a link to an aticle I did doing just that to a lexan body! -
Driver is going to lay down under the hood and peek through the grill shell?

FlatbedKW... be sure your dio drivers don't do this!
Jairus replied to dptydawg's topic in WIP: Dioramas
This could be used for Trucker safety seminars. Very good -
where can I get these wheels
Jairus replied to Privateer's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Linke no worke... sorry! -
I have done this to a plastic kit (Revell Rancharo Custom pickup) and it was a pain in the butt with plastic. Working with metal will be nearly impossible. You will only be frustrated unless someone finds a way to braze the crappy metals most die-cast companies use for casting with. I would avoid that project.....

Sunday, a bad day for ebay auctions??
Jairus replied to Modellpularn's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Since this is a global community.... and if you sell worldwide then ending any time at all is not a problem because you will always have a market. However, one must look at the market you are appealing to! Selling Model Kits vs. selling an Ipod means you have completely different markets to appeal to. A model kit will generally have the biggest market in the US and so you must have the item up for at least 5 days and end when the largest amount of those buyers are available and in front of their computers. This would be anytime in the early afternoon on the West coast and mid to late afternoon on the East coast on a Saturday. This bears my theory out because that is when most of the good stuff I buy ends...! Although I get the best buys on Sunday afternoon when less informed sellers end their stuff… Gregg has a theory that it should end at Noon during the week... This is because he feels the average working guy has access to the business computer and will be on his lunchtime. Neat idea actually, but I have to wonder which time zone is he marketing to? Sundays are ok for frilly girly items I have found. But for model kits, slot cars, baseball cards and other hobby items.... Saturday from 11 to 6 in the evening (east coast to west coast) is the best ending time period dot! That covers all time zones and most guys are washing the car, mowing the lawn or repairing the roof at that time. Thus, they are HOME, where they can take a break and hit the computer to make that final bid!
