Why not? Saturn Sky / Pontiac Solstice
Cato replied to Cato's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
It appears that the discussion on these two cars is done and that's all I'll dig up about them and models of them. Everyone's take on the history of car manufacturing, it's motives and downfall, can be continued in a different thread. Thanks to those that shed light on the subject cars and models. -

Thanks for returning to subject in MY thread. The black Coupe in the link I provided looks even better. Trying to get the knowledgeable model historians to speculate on why we have no kits of these two lost jems... -

Not in the SCCA-there's millions of 'em. -

Ah but we digress... So how come no injection-molded Skys and Sols?? They sold well enough for specialty cars; why no interest by Revell-O-Gram?? Or Fujimi / Airfix / Italeri / ROG?? You'd think Revell of GERMANY since there was an Opel variant-no?? They made lovely die casts and the owners who posted those apparently like them... -

Lutz's 'car-guy' stuff couldn't overcome the union's desire to turn out nothing more than mediocre quality.. -

OK you redeemed yourself. My design language is close-coupled, short overhangs, wheels at corners and functionally smooth-meaning forms that HAVE to be there for function (like wheel humps). Cobra (obviously) and Cheetah are my timeless benchmarks. Call me stuck in the '60's if you want but these (Sky / Solstice) are the only modern equivalents. S2000, Miata and Boxter are 3 box designs for two-but not terrible. And yes, this is very subjective and personal but you can all contribute under that banner. -

OK-put up yer dukes... How can you say 'over-inflated' when it's visually 3/5ths scale of the new Vette you like so much?? The worst thing to my eye about these two designs is the Fischer-Price windshield frame. Needs to be slimmer and straighter across the top. Another one in this design motif is the mid-engine Boxster-but I'd like less front overhang on that. -
Killed by the economic crash of '08, these two most promising designs GM ever did are gone. This Wiki article tells the tale of sales success and great concept cars no longer here. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:PontiacSolstice.jpg What's worse, GM seems to have learned no lessons for their style/designs for the future. The ultra rare Coupe (less than 1200) is to my eye, what the 'Vette should have become. The bloated corpse Camaro, Vette and Mustang should have taken design cues from these cool and tasteful examples. If I could build another car, it would be that Coupe with a 700HP LS-7. Flame away....

For Holleys use Testors MM 'Jet Exhaust'.

1/12 2010 Shelby GT500 "Super Snake" COMPLETED in Under Glass

Your workmanship is fine. But the 1:1-I can't help but be reminded of the giant catfish seen on Discovery Channels 'River Monsters'... -
When the "solution" is the problem!
Cato replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Harry-it's all about the revenue-not emissions. Same BS thinking that says we have to have a jillion different blends of gas by region and season. And we have to pay a fortune for corn products because we NEED it in gasoline. Farmers aren't as dumb as the population thought they were....their lobby kicks arse-OURS. ,,,and your avatar IS more scary than Dirty Harry! -
1,183hp 2013 Shelby GT500 S/C
Cato replied to martinfan5's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
You can certainly build a 1200Hp 'Stang easily and far more cheaply but it wouldn't be the same car. This car can EPA and DOT. Ford would be far better off building a dedicated 'sport car'-like the "Vette is to GM. Instead of this '60's throw-back, non-tech BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH. Even the Viper-8 liters of pushrods-has a better niche following. They sell more than 100 of those. Kinda funny, Fusions, Focus', and MPG is the Ford message for the 21st century-then THIS... -
Kenn-beautiful work. How did you make the tires??

A good way to practice is dental floss. When you get the right method, it's easy to undo and use your chosen material.

New Retro E-Type Jaguar design.
Cato replied to Custom Hearse's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
OK for this day and age retros but I'd prefer Heritage's restoration of a Series 1 original. Stuck in the sixties........... -
Dominik-see my post #10 here: http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=72421#entry902564 It certainly applies to you too. Wonderful build.

It amazes me how many non-US guys build replica-stock US vehicles of the 50's and '60's and NAIL the look PERFECTLY! Juha Ario comes to mind but there are several on this forum and they are great. Beautiful work Jean-Jacques. You surely belonged in Styrene Stars.

PLEASE post larger pictures-you're not doing your hard work justice if we can't see it in more detail.

Can't cut BMF nice and even?
Cato replied to Johnt671's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I run a pointed toothpick along all edges to burnish tightly first. Then, remove the blade from a scalpel (or select a brand new one) and hold only the blade with thumb and index finger. Try to prop the model with heavy paper weights and cushion with towels-so you're not holding it.. -
My kind of car and model-you nailed it. Just beautiful in every area. Tiny nit to pick for your next one: on the FE, the fuel line from the pump to the canister should be thinner-like .015" But you plumbed it correctly and the linkage, vacuum line and the whole top dress is great. I know because I have one.
