  1. That's the one I had originally Jeff. I don't know if the Matchbox was a reissue or an export issue - it has multiple languages on the box. Matchbox version has a 1981 copyright.
  2. Yeah, Steve, I remember your most recent Rabbit and the WIP - great model BTW - and I think the engine was one of the areas I filled with glue on my original attempt. The Scirocco and Rabbit share tires too. The chassis and engine are identical - inner fenders/engine bays are slightly different.
  3. One of the first kits I remember building as a youngster was AMT's Volkswagon Scirocco. I remember having difficulty getting the whole thing together and it turned out to have a significant amount of glue. I have thought about reliving that endeavor - and I recently purchased a replacement kit, so I thought I would show others what's in the kit... This was an interesting time at AMT - I don't know the history of the the kit, but AMT had a couple very nicely detailed, state of the art kits in the late 70s and early 80s. The Scirocco, Rabbit, and Subaru Brat are examples of such kits. Here is the kit circa 1981: The body, nicely done aside from the horrible red plastic: Parts - note separate interior side panels: Tires - race tires are kind of truck like: Chrome - nicely done wheels with open spokes: Decals: Overall, this is a neat little kit that looks like the real car. I am not even close to an expert on cars - even less so on VWs, so any additional information is more than welcome. Also, if you have pics of the kit built up, add 'em. Pics of your old Scirocco? Post 'em too. Thanks!
  4. Do Not spend $70 on this kit. Although it is nice - both '58 and '59 kits are great - HERE is what you can and should expect to pay - rarely sells for more than $30. The '59 seems a little more rare, but again, HERE you can see, up to $30 is fair. Sorry to the OP for the diversion...
  5. So totally true. I bought an economy car because its what I need to drive 95% of the time. There is such waste buying a vehicle for that 5% - I need to haul the boat, kids' friends, whatever excuse you need. My next purchase will be an even smaller two seat. My dad has a Honda S2000 - they stopped production on that too - it is a great, fun car.
  6. The Solstice Coupe is a great looking little car. Turbo 4 with dual exhaust is a neat touch. There is no place to store the removable top on the coupe version - which is totally weird and a mistake - and visibility is limited (I have read and heard from a family member at a body shop), but still, cool. I would get a kit mainly because I love two seater cars, and I like the Pontiac legend (not so much all the cars).
  7. Very nice work. I like the look you have it. Fantastic model.
  8. I wouldn't worry. I did just get a Pocher kit delivered a couple weeks ago - I was worried about that, but it arrived safe and sound
  9. I am a proponent of the USPS. I have been, still am. I have very little to complain about. Having shipped and received hundreds, probably over 1000, and very few problems - none until recently - I just wanted to vent...probably regression to the mean It doesn't "seem" random to my simple human brain, I guess. The first three got me thinking - the latest was "what's going guys and girls?"
  10. Okay, first off, I guess this is another whining post about the USPS. We have all heard and had problems of one sort or another. Lately, however, the service is failing in a drastic manner. I have happily used USPS for shipping and receiving for the last 4 or 5 years - I can't remember any problems in that time period. Zero. International and domestic. I probably buy and or sell a kit or two a week - a lot less in the summer, a little more in the winter. This winter/early spring I have had numerous mailings gone awry. One package - with tracking - never arrived, to me or back to the seller. The tracking clearly shows it going somewhere, just not to my address. The seller, great seller he is, bought and shipped another item. Resolved for me - seller out two kits. Then, within a week, another package, with tracking, is "missent". Not a big deal, but delays a "priority" shipment for a couple days extra. The seller and I both pay for "priority" and don't get it. That package arrives safely, just late. A couple weeks pass - same thing. The most recent - I bought a kit from Eugene, OR. I live in Spokane. Should be an EASY two day delivery with priority. No. Package doesn't even make it out of Portland this time. "Missent". It will now be a couple more days for the delivery. Kind of ridicoulous. I am fortunate to be able to buy and sell models as I wish. I am fortunate for a lot of things and I realize this whining has no global importance, but if I am paying for something, I expect what I pay for. Anybody else notice a decline in service lately? Is this how they are trying to get out of bankruptcy? Dealing with the sequestration?
  11. Definitely true. Some of the old customs were outlandish just to be outlandish and really didn't consider basic design - but they are iconic cars none-the-less. They did, however, periodically put together elements that carried over into other designs and are visually pleasing as well as entertaining. Funny how this thread is heading in such a direction, but I enjoy aspects of good design concepts.
  12. There is no way to open the hood!!! Must be a low maintenance engine. The PS job is a little sloppy - just the Martin with a Fusion grill "fused" in
  13. Have to agree with HP. While the finish is beautiful and I like the colors, the overall look is askew - just not naturally appealing to the eye. You can say it's subjective, but there are some elements of design that are not - and I think this car has some of those elements wrong.
  14. Rare kit. High demand. No mystery here.
  15. In Washington that's legal at any elevation. Colorado too.

  17. Turned out great. Very nice looking model. I like the color choices.
  18. Go to eBay. Type "MPC Mustang" in the search feature. Look for results that match that box.
  19. That 300 6 cylinder will be a big draw for me. That will be a basis for a lot of conversions. A true work horse o an engine.
  20. Hey, I'm up in BC this week - no beer in the store??? In WA we passed legislation ALL alcohol available at retail stores! You can get beer, wine, whiskey at grocery store. Also, vehicle license fees used to based on vehicle value, so fees were $500-600. Voters reversed that and now it's about $60. It was a huge it to a lot of state funded services.
  21. Not sure those are the jobs that mean a whole lot to the economy It's kind of annoying in Oregon and I have been reprimanded for pumping my own fuel. Why not give people a job pushing my shopping cart? What about mowing my lawn - no more on your own, you must hire somebody to do it.
