  1. Nice model. Great paint and the 6 is a nice change. I like the fact it's not an over-the-top style gasser, it's something you might have actually seen back in the day.
  2. Great looking car. That red wash looks very good on the taillights.
  3. I build both. I think the principals are the same. It is very possible to build an outstanding model with nothing but box contents, imagination, hard work, and attention to detail. I have seen a lot of overly bashed/complicated builds fail miserably because of execution.
  4. Build it. It's not rare, just an expensive kit.
  5. I don't think a mirrored base will alter the bias inherent in judging at contests. I think the model is well done and there is a lot that will more than likely get (or has been) overlooked by a judge or spectator. How many times does somebody really read that whole sheet explaining all the modifications on a model? It's been said before, build for yourself...so, I guess that's my advice Very nice model, though.
  6. 3,000 hours for the whole process (scanning, molding, etc)? Or to build each one? That would mean 1 1/2 years of 8 hour days. Oh, where were they made? $3 an hour is big bucks someplace!
  7. Great work. Nice clean construction and a good looking model.
  8. As I said when I saw it earlier... Poor Fiat
  9. Very nice work and a very nice model. Great, clean building.
  10. Beautiful model. Beautiful paint. Exceptional paint, actually.
  11. Nice model. Back when Subaru was a little less conspicuous. I think that rear window wiper was a Japanese only addition? US versions (except wagons, which I had a '92 and have a 2000) don't have that. Cool.
  12. I ordered sets of the all the truck tires back in the day - must have been around '95 because I remember the ads Casey posted above. It's a sign how difficult it is to make $ in the car hobby business. Here was a guy with intimate industry knowlwedge, networking skills and contacts, and a great product, but still couldn't make it profitable enough to continue.
  13. I buy kits for many of the same reasons everybody else does. I also buy quite a few to resell. If I can get a kit for a price I can resell and make $10, I will buy it, store it, and sell it with a few more when the time comes. With eBay, models are fairly liquid - meaning within about a week I can comfortably sell about 20-30 and get the money about as fast. A small investment but it adds up and helps pay for kits I want to keep - as well as any other needs.
  14. Excellent. I think everybody here appreciates not only your building, Kenn, but the fact you are willing to photograph and post the process. That glow on the dome light is great - very moody.
  15. Nice work! Good clean building and a great looking model.
  16. I thoroughly enjoyed the WIP thread and the model turned out beautiful. Excellent work.
  17. Yeah, I am sure Chicago is a little more pricey than Spokane. I do, however, get money off with my magic Fred Meyer track-what-you-buy program. Last time I got 50 cents off per gallon!
  18. Once I took my dog with me. They wouldn't let me test even though they don't have to get in the vehicle. I know there are idiots who would show up in a car they DID have to enter with dogs, but my car isn't one of them. I would be interested to know how effective the emissions programs really are. They are a pain and hassle, but, as stated in the earlier post, I can clearly remember the smell of sitting in traffic back in "the good old days", not to mention the smell from my own low buck rides. I have noticed a considerable smell in other countries too - mainly due to the prevalence of diesel - but think we here have extremely clean running cars. Now, is it federal standards or local emission testing?
  19. I am sure there is a psychological study out there about that exact problem. It's similar to a study about value - people will drive across town to save $5 on a $10 item but not on a $500 item. The amount you save is the exact same amount in both cases - but one seems like you are saving more (which you are % wise) but not TOTAL VALUE. So if you drive any distance to the store at $3.25 a gallon, how much is the cost to drive back and forth? Humans are very irrational - myself included.
  20. Never hold the super glue lid in your teeth as an extra hand and try to put the lid back on the bottle while holding tweezers with a tiny part in your other hand and then forget you missed the cap after you glue the part on and close your lips. I'm not even sure that makes sense.
  21. Only if they charge you full price. Generally, in the weird-business-scheme-thing that mega-hobby/craft stores use, you can't use the [enter amount here]% off coupon on sale items - only on "regular priced items".
  22. Very nice looking model. Great choice of paint and it looks nice and smooth. I love '61 Pontiacs - the grill and clean, straight lines - so nice. Great job.
  23. Pretty decent little car. A lot of the Doyusha kits are close renditions of he actual car - not very close at that. They end up a little toy-ish but offer subjects nobody else does, so...yeah.
