Nah, it's not ! I think the 2D Sedan looks so much better than this Four Door model. Plus that there are already enough 4D Chevy IIs around here and since mine won't have a backseat or anything, the rear doors would be worthless anyway.

Here's one:

Thanks Nick and Bill! It's a lot of work so when I can start building, I need to stay busy with it. Bill, it's true that it's a lot of work to convert it into 2D Sedan. I think it's a neat challenge for myself as it's a bit trickier than the relatively large rust repair I did on '60 Impala last winter. I will have to buy two more front doors for 4D Chevy II and then out of those doors and the front doors I have I'll make the doors that are a bit longer and match original 2D Sedan doors. I'm not quite sure how window mechanisms etc will be done, but these 4D to 2D conversions have been done often here in Finland in the '80s when most of the US cars we had were 4D models, so I will have to ask some tips from them. I think I get it figured out and it will look pretty good, but it's a lot of work for sure. Here are a couple better pictures in daylight:

Thanks! Let's see about the pics, if I remember it when I start building, I might post some pics in that 1:1 Car Picture section. Yep it was already here in Finland. I'm pretty sure this has been imported here in '62 when it was new and used as a Taxi. These Chevy IIs, Darts and Valiants were pretty commonly used as Taxis here in Finland and after that many of them have been Hot Rodded in one way or another.

I just bought this '62 Chevy II project. It's a lot of work, but that's just what I wanted and it doesn't look too rusty. I will need to convert it from 4D Sedan into 2D Sedan though. I can't start working on it right now, but the work is going to be started in autumn 2016 and it should be on the road again in summer 2017. Here are two crappy cell phone pics. I'll gotta take some better shots tomorrow when we move it to our other garage waiting for building to start.

This AMT Boss Nova just arrived yesterday. It's unstarted otherwise, but body has been painted with red that has very heavy Metal Flake in it. It looks good but unfortunately I have to strip the paint as I'll be converting this into a normal street car.

I like it! Nice job with that tricky paint job and decal work looks very good too. Especially those tire decals look excellent... Did you spray any flat clear over them? Good looking build overall!

Fiat Topolino '60s Altered & Finished Slingshot Dragster
W-409 replied to W-409's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Thanks Brad and Gene, I appreciate it! Yes, these are very cool cars. Whenever I get this one finished, I have to move on to continue my other Fiat Altered (Fiat 500) and then I can display these together. That will take some time though... And on those pictures I just wanted to cover the mess I have on my workbench so I started looking for somekind of background for the pics. That Mooneyes decal sheet was the first one that I found as I just bought it from Mooneyes' shop a couple of weeks ago. -
You don't see many of these built so it's nice to see one done this well. That color is not for me, but it fits surprisingly well on this car, especially with those blue areas. Good work with the engine, too.

This is an interesting project as I just bought the same kit. Frame is looking very good so far. Keep it coming.

Fiat Topolino '60s Altered & Finished Slingshot Dragster
W-409 replied to W-409's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
I added valve stems to the wheels. They were made from MIG welding wire that I just painted flat black, cut to correct length and glued to the little holes I drilled on wheels with super glue. Inner wheels & rear brakes came with the kit, but on front I had to dig proper inner wheels from my parts box and then I used kit's center parts that attach to front axle. Then I decided to put it on four wheels. Rear axle was glued on place first and it fit very nicely on place. Then I just simply glued all four wheels on their places. While I was in this point, I decided to try how engine and body fit on place. Engine fit fine, but looks like I'll need to do minor modifications to firewall to make it fit properly with that new clutch cover. -
The Duel Project
W-409 replied to Stuntman Mike's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
This is an interesting project, Duel is one of my favorite movies too. I've even thought of attempting to build these things sometimes, but it's a lot of work and I've never got into it. Interesting to see how yours will turn out, the start looks very good. Especially I'm interested in that Valiant... Looks like Duster front end fits pretty nicely on place, but doing that 4 Door conversion is a lot of work. And how are you going to do the rear end... Is there a kit source you can use for that or do you have to modify that rear end to look like '70? -
These are not my big interests, but I've been following this build since you started it. Now I have to say that you're doing an incredible job with this one. Everything looks very realistic...This will be a real stunner when finished.

Looks good, these old Super Stock cars are one of the most interesting subjects in car modeling (I have many of them in the works too). Looks like you're doing a great job so far. That Lindberg chassis fits under many bodies pretty well and your engine looks excellent too. I'm no Mopar expert though... Did these cars have 383, 413 or 426 Wedge engines in them...? I know that Hemi came a year later, but otherwise I'm clueless.

It's sad to hear these games are ending. They've been a great fun even if I haven't been playing them every week lately (Been a bit busy). I understand though that it's no fun to host the game when some of the players are cheating. I can't understand either why someone would do that. In Auto ID Quiz I think searching different car makes/models from Google is the fun part (Especially if I can figure out what car it is!) and in Real Or Model it's fun to guess from the details and car's overall look which one it is. Actually it was new news for me that you can do a picture search in Google... Had to try it and looks like it works sometimes. But yep, it's a no brainer to do it in the game... Even if you got the credit by cheating that way, what is the fun part in it? Well, usually I didn't figure out what car it is in Auto ID Quiz (And to be honest my guesses in ROM didn't go much better either ) but I always had fun playing the games. Hopefully someone will continue this anyway. Thanks to Harry for hosting these!

Excellent work as always Steve. It's nice to see a perfect black paint job like this as I know it's very hard to get right. Great work with it overall. Sharp BMF, good looking details in the engine bay etc. If it was mine I'd like to go without the skirts, but I've never been a huge fan of them anyway. Overall it looks fantastic like this anyway.
-
Looks like you had a good year! All of them look like they're very nicely done...Very nice and clean builds overall. That '66 Nova catches my eyes though. Do you have any more pics of it?
-
What, me? No Way! Just kidding, thanks Ray! I think it's coming along pretty good. That Classic Chevy rear end seems to be a decent fit into a Cortina.
-
Thank You! I've been trying to do as good job as I can on these things, but I got to say that I'm miles behind some of you guys. Especially it's great to see many of you working with metal on your models. It often looks very good so maybe some day I might do the same on my builds. But so far I'll stick with plastic and resin... I get to do enough metal work with those 1:1 cars (And I just bought a new project car for myself). Here are two more pics of the rear axle. After a couple of rounds of putty and sanding it's starting to look smooth. Still a few spots are in need of filler, but otherwise it's really close to Primer. Now I can also start searching for correct leaf springs for this and mock them up into the chassis...Stay tuned.

Fiat Topolino '60s Altered & Finished Slingshot Dragster
W-409 replied to W-409's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Thanks Brad! Great to hear you enjoy the progress on my builds. I'm having a lot of fun with this project too as these Altereds are very interesting and this Fiat is probably one of the most legendary bodies for that use. My next step will be installing the rear axle to frame and then I can put wheels and tires on when a couple of parts come from chrome stripping. Hopefully I'll have an update soon. -
Even though I'm not a Mercedes Benz guy, I have to admit that I've always liked this body style. And WOW, this build is excellent! If you didn't say it, I would have never ever guessed that it's 1/32 scale model, to me it looks just like a well detailed 1/25 kit looks. Very nice work all over on it. Nice and smooth paint job with sharp details. Looks very realistic to me. Maybe this is the best 1/32 scale build I've ever seen. Congrats.

It's true that these kits require some extra work to get them look right, but they are fun to build and look good when completed (Even if built box stock). I've been wanting to get me one of these AWB kits and build it "full detail"... Your Mustang looks very good so far. Nice paint job on the body and good work with the decals. It's interesting to see how this turns out so keep the pics coming.

Excellent work John as usual. Excellent paint and decal work on the body and nice work on the chassis too. Especially engine detailing looks great and all of the color choices on that engine are just right. It looks like it is metal and not plastic.
