Posting photos? HELP!
71drolds replied to Terry Jessee's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
i always use photobucket. when you load a photo, resize it to the predetermined "large" size. then go to share, options, and link codes. use the one for forums. copy and paste it in your post. -
the bottom line on this topic is everyone has their own opinions. mine were made clear as well as other peoples. no one has to agree with me and i see most people dont. fine, i dont care. im not out to make enemies within the modeling community because as we all agree, its fun. maybe i did a little too much finger pointing and i appologize for that. anyone is free to check out my build posts and decide weither or not i have a leg to stand on. i encourage comments good or bad because they are something i can learn from. i will continue to attend and enter shows and if i win great, if i lose, so what. everytime i dont place it just encourages me to build a better model. i have already gone back and redone and added some stuff on my lastest build that the ipms website said they look for. good luck to everyone.

first of all dan, your ignorance is plainly seen as a out of box model wouldnt even be in same catagory as a custom. maybe i am in it to win it. does anyone go the compete at these shows and say " boy i really hope i lose and have the crappiest model there. that would really make my day". if people didnt strive to win you wouldnt get as many high quality builds that we see at so many shows. maybe this is your opinion because you cant achieve this level of building. rob , the briefing was done and the judges were already viewing the models. it is about fun but if we cant stick to the rules, why have them. how is this fair to someone who planned accordingly and had been there since the doors opened. it needs to be a level playing field and had this been someone who wasnt friends with the hosting club, i dont believe he would have been allowed to participate. your talking out both sides of your mouth. one sentence says let the rules slide and allow late enteries, the next says they should be rigidly enforced( weither that applies to the actual judging or the end of registration). pick a side.

george the kirkwood show is oct 30th, 10a to 3p. bill i should be at the kirkwood show with the 442 i just finished. after this last show im adding some more detail to it to step it up a little bit. see ya there.

thanks for your imput tim. i was waiting for ipms judge to reply. i actually did volunteer to judge the cars but they said they had enough judges. by doing this i was trying to understand their practices better and why they do it the way they do. although, i still dont agree with them, just my .02 pennies.
-
pete i agree with you. i did come off that i condemed the ipms as a whole. i did not relize it is as large as it is. there are only three shows i know of in my area. one is an ipms event and the other two held by Midwest Model Vehicle Association. im not about to travel long distances to go to shows. so when i say im not going to the ipms show, what i really mean is this show in particular. its the only ipms show around here i know of. if more ipms events come up in this area i will most likely not attend if the judging criteria hasnt changed.
-
i now understand that this way of judging is an ipms standard. and if thats the way they want it done, fine. i just choose not to participate in their events anymore because of it. i know some of the ships and planes have very intricate rigging and small parts. the ships absolutely dont need to be picked up because you can see everything on them. the planes sit high enough off the ground that you can see 99% of their undersides. if my model was carelessly dropped because of mishandleing i would be upset. but these cars car be handled in a manner where they are barely elevated from the table and can be COMPLETELY evaluated.
-
i did buy a mirrored stand yesterday as i already stated, i just wont be using it at any ipms shows.
-
jim i did exactly that. i had a page i typed up listing all the modifications i did and what materials were used. but if the car is never picked up, i could be lying about half of them. i like what was said earlier about the modelers being given the option of having thier cars handled and i did infact tell the head judge i would prefer to have mine handled. but i was told that wouldnt happen unless there were two top enteries that they couldnt decide on. so the car with the most outstanding paint and the best engine would of won hands down even if the underside was left untouched. cant anyone see the problem with this?
-
i would like to restate what i said in the beginning. weither i won or not, i dont like the judging standards. i do build quailty models. ive won other shows. i detail the ENTIRE car leaving nothing untouched. im not crying because i didnt win although i knew i would be accussed of that. i know that all the cars were judged the same way. its the way they were judged that i dont agree with. by these standards of judgeing, i could have entered a snap together model, not painted or detailed anything, and it should win because there would be zero flaws and zero risk taken. while these standards may strive someone to produce a higher quality model, they dont encourage you to go outside the box and go out of your way to put that last tiny detail in with the smallest of tweezers for fear that it will go completely unnoticed because the judges wont even see that part of the car. i likely should of looked at the ipms website and learned how they judge. i will continue to build and enter shows. i do largely build these models for my own enjoyment and a win at a contest is just icing on the cake. i hope everyone continues to be active in this hobby and participate in it any way they can. this is just one mans rant.
-
No need to get beligerant just because I have a different opinion. If you feel like ranting, you'd better expect people to call you on it. by all means, call me on it. i just returned the attitude i felt you were giving me by your comments about the late arrival.
-
wayne i agree with you. my ignorance of ipms practices is obvious. true, i am a very competitive person, but i didnt mind not taking a place in the show. i just didnt like the judging practices so i will take myself out of the problem by not attending. if you or anyone else agrees with them, by all means go to every show they put on and enjoy yourself. i have nothing against the judges, the organizers or the ipms members. im sure they worked hard to pull off the event and provide an atmosphere for those in the hobby to come together.
-
well rob, i dont feel ive lost anything. i did spent time talking to fellow builders, got some tips and gave some. i enjoyed my time there but, standard practices or not, i dont agree with them and will not take part in ipms events in the future. to all who do or are part of the ipms, by all means continue and take part in our hobby as much as you can. i dont expect to change opinions or rules by this rant. its just a way to express my feelings of an unfair and disappointing experience. by the way, ive already order a mirrored base. however, i was told the underside of the model doesnt matter and isnt judged unless its a tie breaker senerio. so if thats true at these shows, why even have a reflective base? once again it goes back to judging the model as a whole not just what you can see from above with your little flashlight. as far as the late entry, dont wait till the last darn minute to get to an event you most likely knew about for months before. you dont know why he was delayed and niether do i, but if it were me i would expect to be turned away in order to assure the rules are upheld. if not why have them? how about i show up when the awards are being handed out and demand to be judged? i suppose at your show that would be ok.
-
romell i agree with you on all accounts. i just dont understand their thinking on judging these cars in a fair manner. i'll admit, i did have a good feeling about taking a place in my class and it was a let down not to. i dont mind being beat by a better builder. lord knows im not the best and their are modelers out there with far greater talent than i will ever have. it just ticks me off when its not a level playing field and all aspects of the entry are not taken into account.
-
thanks jeff. im not discouraged at all, just disappointed in the contest. but like i say to everyone else, "if you dont like it, dont take part in it", and thats just what im going to do.
-
i wouldnt go that far harry. the last one i entered in kirkwood mo was great! i dont have a single bad word to say about it other than the awards could of been a little better. but im not paying for them so i shouldnt complain. ed, this show definetly catered to military builders. i think there were five classes for automobiles(excluding the junior classes) and there must have been 20 or more for the military stuff.

my bad. it is IPMS

having returned from this model contest today, i have to say i am disgusted with the parameters that the models were judged by. this is not a reflection on the judges in particular, but the way the judging was done. i was told that the models would not be picked up to see the level of detail on the chassis. while i understand that they are afraid of handling the models and breaking them, how can you possibly judge a model without taking into account the entire model! by this standard i could of left the bottom of the car unpainted and had glue slopped all over the place and it wouldnt have mattered. i spent alot of time making sure i had as much detail under the car as on top and it was never even seen. i was told the only way they would be judged was on the least amount of mistakes. so having scratchbuilt many parts and gone through hours of detailing it would have been simpler to just leave all that out because it wouldnt factor in on the judging. they actually told the judges to look for more errors on the kits with more non box stock parts. secondly, the classes were a joke. a large scale model has no business being in a class of smaller scale kits. no disrespect to large scale builders, but you can cram a heck of alot more detail into these kits much easier. there were plenty of classes based on scale for all the planes, why not the cars? also, there should of been a seperate class for non-commercial trucks. there were enough trucks on hand for this class. i know that may not have been the case in the past, but it was today. i also saw at least four cars in the stock class that clearly were not stock. lastly, i watched a "regular", come in and enter his models 10 mins. past the end of registration. how is this fair to the builders that showed up in the allotted amount of time or sat around for 5 hours waiting for registration to close and judging to begin. i would have felt this way had i won or not and this is not me gripping about not winning. im sure alot of people put much effort into hosting and planning this show and its a shame it was handled the way it was. this was the first and last time i will attend an IPMS show.

Ron, its all in the headlights. i hate painting molded headlights so i always replace them with lenses and the bmf behind them is the best thing ive found. the body color paint around the headlights ( which is correct for these cars ) really adds some depth to it too. see you in pacific bill.
-
wow! what a great compliment. thanks vince. we'll see if the judges agree tomorrow!
-
actually i just remembered they were from pegasus.
-
yeah i heard they were based on that kit. they look great, they just dont fit perfectly. ive got a 1:1 71 cutlass supreme convertible im building into something similer to what i have built here.
-
i used the 71/72 conversion front end from modelhaus instead of the 72 hurst/olds front. it is outstanding quality but is a little narrow to fit this body correctly. also the center piece between the grills that comes with the model doesnt fit the modelhaus piece. i had an old resin kit with that piece molded to the hood so i cut that one out and it fit perfectly. i also used the '71 taillights from that resin kit. the modelhaus piece has the headlights molded in. they look ok, but i didnt like it. i drilled them out and replaced them with the lenses from the model kit and backed them up with bmf. the interior is box stock except for flocking and some speakers in the kick panels. the chassis has fuel and brake lines front to rear and an emergency brake cable leading to rubber lines going to the rear calipers. the engine has been completely wired and i made the turbo, headers and some of the exhaust from solder. the paint is testors firery orange and the black stripes are from fred caddy. the body has been wet sanded and polished and the trim was all covered with bmf i cant remember where i got the wheels or the exhaust tips. let me know what you think good or bad. thanks for looking.

i was told that a photographer from Model Cars Mag was on hand and took picts of each car in the show to put on the forum. i was just wondering if i missed them somewhere. thanks to the MMVA members who put on a great show and swap meet! i wanted to say a special thanks to the member who built the S'COOL BUS. i didnt get his name, but over heard that there was a mix up or something with the medals and he gave up his first place medal in his class so i would get one for my class. it was awsome to walk away with something and it was greatly appreciated to win first place in my first real attempt to build a show worthy model. im looking forward to october and hoping i can get something together to enter before then. thanks again!

i love the orange glass. anybody know how to do that on a model?
