yeah that cowl wouldnt look right on the ram air olds hood. it looks great on the iroc front end. i think i have it fixed with the stock air cleaner assembly even though it doesnt look as good.
-
i may have come up with a solution. if i use the stock carb and ram-air cleaner set-up, it might work. too bad it will cover some of the custom stuff.

well im up the creek now. how that saying go, measure twice cut once? i got my turbo 455 almost finished and decided to check the hood clearance. not even close to fitting. i thought i would just build the motor to look right and deal with the clearance issues as they come. i have no idea how to deal with this one. i could cut the hood out just where it needs it ( alot of turbo guys do this), but i think that will look stupid. alot of the engine is superglued due to all the metal stuff so i cant take it apart cleanly. any ideas?

very funny spyder, you had me squinting. does this kit at least have seperate suspension? -
THANKS FOR the tip. if i dont spend anything on ebay this week, i'll have to get that.

i built that one when i was a kid, and recently got it as an unopened kit off ebay. like you said, i was very dissapointed in the details. ive already sold mine and im moving on. im looking for a better detailed cab just like it, and a fleetside short bed to make a drag racer out of it.

another scale question

hey ed. my old man had that exact blazer when i was growing up right down to the wagon wheel, tires and the cb whip. id like to make a replica. even if i can only use the body and interior, id still like to do it. -
i just finished a rattle can paint job on my first model in a long time and i was never very good at doing a really nice finish. the orange peel isnt horrible, but its there. i really want this one to turn out nice as it is a model of what i want my 1:1 to look like. without going really over the top, what are some finishing steps or products i can use to get rid of some of the orange peel and really make the black paint look deep? also, im going for a flat black stripe over gloss black finish. is there anything i can do to dull down the black stripes from the way they are on the decal sheet? im using keith marks decals. i thought of masking around them on the car and spraying a flat clear, but some of the stripes are just to intricate to tape around. i also thought of using that type of brush on mask, but ive never used that. this is a crucial part of this build that needs to look right. any help?

Decals Under Clear Coat- Yes or No?
71drolds replied to Casey's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
i want my rally stripes to appear flat or matte. will they adhere to a clear coat? -
can anyone tell me if the fall guy gmc, or the later reissue with the blue truck, has an interior with the bench seat molded in or not?
-
thanks guys. i should have said it was the sod buster kit, my bad. i know this is would be up to the buyer, but what is this worth in an opened possibly incomplete kit? Rob, do you have any mid 70's chevy 4X4 kits that you would get rid of? what i need is a kit to make a 4X4 lifted blazer, and a kit for a SWB pickup drag racer.
-
does anybody know what scale a MPC #78-0440-250 model kit is? its a stepside early 80's 4X4 pickup molded in yellow.

heres what ive done with he exhaust to turbo plumbing so far. i used #6 solid copper wire. the wire will be cut off right after the union and mounted to the turbo.

that is beyond cool looking! i love it!

if im going to claim a name like "dr. olds", i better drive a couple of oldsmobiles. my everyday driver is a 2003 SS silverado, but heres a couple of my olds and a few past rides that were pretty cool. 1971 cutlass supreme convertable. its currently being restored. 1971 vista cruiser. recently sold. 1972 blazer. more or less destroyed off-road. i got $300 for the body and frame when i was done with it. 1948 willys M38. i never finished this project. it was going to be a rockcrawler with a 350 SBC, TH400, Np 205 and 1-ton running gear. i had all the parts bought but lost intrest in 4X4's.

i would draw on tracing paper, then copy the drawing on an ordinary copy machine at the public library, then go over all the large dark areas again and then have kinkos make a final copy on high quality glossy paper. what your seeing are just scans of the actual finished product.

yeah its all micron pens of verying sizes. heres another.

i used to do all the art work for a local guy who hosted mud runs on his property. these are some of those drawings and some other ones i've done just for kicks. most of them are simple black and white solid color drawings. they had to be done that way to transfer them to silk screening. i'll try to post one a week for a while. let me know what you think.

A WORD OF WARNING ON THIS KIT! before you take any parts off the trees, look at the head lights. one of my headlight lenses was not completely molded. if you look at the picture where the red marker is pointing, you'll see the bad lense. luckily, i was going to omit the inboard headlights for air ducts so it didnt matter in my case. however, this would really screw up a build if you didnt notice this until the end. hopefully this is isolated just to the kit i paid $22 for. other than this, i have to say the level of detail and accuracy(for the most part) is outstanding! Mustang 3.8, id like to see your finished kit. i like the color combo and the hard top idea. sounds great!
