1/16 Scale Army Vega Funny Car - Finished 10/14/2018
Mooneyzs replied to Mooneyzs's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Alright Fellas.... It's time for another update. I got some bench time in today. I started with working on the distributor cap and the Mallory ignition box. got them sanded and primed and then went in a different direction and worked on the butterfly steering wheel. I needed to make the quick disconnect attachment and think I am pretty happy with how it turned out so far. There is still some sanding and prepping to do but I think it should do the trick. Alright onto the pictures.... Here is all of the parts that I started with. Future Attractions 1/16th scale Photo-Etch Butterfly Steering Wheel, 1/32" Dia. Brass Rod, 1/16" Dia. aluminum Tube and 3/32" Dia. brass tube: Here is the steering wheel mocked up. Now the reason for the Aluminum tube was to use it as a spacer to keep the quick disconnect centered on the steering wheel. The steering wheel had a hole in the center which I put the 1/32" Dia rod thru and then the 1/16 Dia Aluminum tube slipped over that and then the 3/32" dia brass tube over that. I am soldering these pieces together and I purposely used the aluminum so that the solder would n't stick to that and it would get removed: Here I was using my Pin Vise to hold the pieces together so I could solder them: Here is the Solder joint after soldering it: -

Ray... Thanks man. You know there are probably some things I forgot to do on this build... Brad... Thanks Brother. Thanks for drawing that up for me. Bob... Thank you. It's a detail that I haven't seen on many builds and I wanted to add that little extra touch to it. -

You could always fill those Revell rubber tires with some foam or even tissue or paper towels. I did that on my 1/16 Front Engine Dragster. -
What kits did you miss ?
Mooneyzs replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I wish that the Aurora Racing Scenes was still around. I have been lucky enough to pick up a couple kits but I am in dire need of the Donovan 417 kit for a specific project I am wanting to do. -

Bill... Don't think that will happen. I don't have enough detail in it for it to fire up. maybe the next one. Tim... Thank you. I am at the point where I just want to finish this one up so I can move onto the next build. Danno... I will just be glad that I won't have to tell you it will be done "Next Year" at the next DSC... -

Dwayne... you could always have a couple of jigs so you could have multiple builds going on, just a thought. Tim... I will have to show you a couple of chassis Jigs that I am drawing up which I will have machined for me. I just received my Mic-6 Aluminum today for them. -
Art... Have you got this beauty all ready for the show this weekend??

Hey Tim... Just thought I would share this Falcon... I took pics of this back at one of the Goodguys shows I saw In Pleasanton California Probably back around 1996 when I was showing my El Camino there. If you would like me to remove the pics just let me know. Don't want to take away from your killer build. -
soaking resin and styrene parts to clean
Mooneyzs replied to fiatboy's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
For Resin Bodies and parts I use westley's bleche wite. Been using it for years for Plastic kits I soak in warm water with dawn and then I give the parts a quick scrub with a tooth brush and some more dawn. Rinse and then air dry. -
Count me in... I will be there for sure!!! Cameron here is the link to it, it is what I will call the Holy Grail (or Super Bowl) of all model shows. It's a 4 day model show with seminars, an auction, swap meet and great time to meet many of the builders from around the U.S. and many other countries. main link: http://www.gslchampionship.org/ What is GSL: http://www.gslchampionship.org/what-is-gsl/ One show that I think needs to be on everyone's bucket list to attend at least once to experience it.

Henry J Twin Turbo - Didn't see that coming..........
Mooneyzs replied to Codi's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Tim.... I am speechess and no idea what to say other than I am So Sorry about what happened. I am still in disbelief about it. This Henry J had to be one of the best builds of all times. The level of detail that you have achieved and gone to has been amazing. In my opinion you are one of the best builders out there. I know it had to be heart breaking when this happened. I can totally relate to the long hours that have been put into this build and it seems that even though thru the trouble you encountered that you still have a positive attitude thru this. I do like the idea of you using many of the other components on your other builds and I have no idea how bad of a hit the chassis took but is there anyway to salvage any of it by chance? I know when I took a few steps back with my funny car chassis a while back when I realized things were wrong and I had to fix it at least 2 if not 3 times that I wish I would of just scratch built the whole thing now. I am sure I could build a better chassis for it now after going thru all I did and learning from it. I am sure this is true for you that you learned so much goin thru this build.. I know things are too fresh for you to think about this at the momemt but I would suggest taking some time on some other builds and then when the time is right consider possibly doing another frame for this build. You are one heck of a builder who's work I look up to sND admire....keep your chin up and we are here for you when you are ready to get back to the bench. Again I am truly sorry you are having to go thru this. -
'34 Ford Early Altered - 1/16th Scale
Mooneyzs replied to gasser59's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Brad.... Tell me it isn't so?? I need to pick myself up off the floor..... Am I dreaming or are you finally starting a 1/16th build?? It's only taken me long enough to twist your arm to start one of these . I have to tell you that you may just get hooked on these 1/16th scale builds. I am super excited to see what you do to this build. I really like your idea on how you want to build this and going with fender less is going to be sweet. As for a rear end I would recommend one from TDR they have a Ford 9" as well as a Mark Williams set up. I look forward to updates on this. -
Art... Thank you. I am following you on the water soluble bummer that it made the faces bleed. But man the results you got with the epoxy looks great. I really love the behind the scenes pics of the guages. DId you draw and print those decals yourself?? Mind if I ask why type of paper and printer if so? Keep up the great work and I am looking forward to your next update.

Art... that dash is gorgeous my friend. Wow what a difference between what you did and the kits dash. You knocked it out of the park. Is the glass in the guages made from the glue I picked up from you at the DSC?
