1/16 Scale Army Vega Funny Car - Finished 10/14/2018
Mooneyzs replied to Mooneyzs's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Hello All... I first want to address the reason for the redesign of the blower and injector hat. Then I will respond to each of you. First I wanted to say that when I originally designed these parts I had all of the bolt holes drawn up to .016" and there were a few spots where the holes didn't print. Because I didn't know the limits of how small I could go with the holes. So my fix for this was to open up all of the holes to .020". My intention was to have them printed smaller and then open them up with my pin vise and drill bits. Second..... I drew these up on my work laptop which has a newer version of Solidworks on it. Well I wanted to be able to open these files on my version at home and since it's an older version, it won't open up newer versions. So I decided to redraw them on the version I have. Also I want these parts to print correctly prior to making these available on shapeways. I am working on some other parts at the moment so I can have them printed at the same time. -

Hello All... Well I have finally gotten back to making some progress on this build and of as recently I have gone back to make some updates to the blower and injector had 3D models I have drawn up in Solidworks. I have also updated the pulleys and got a blower belt designed for it. I have some other parts that I am going to be designing up That way I can submit a batch of parts that I need to finish some things up on this build. Here are a few pics of what I have designed and drawn up. Here is an Isometric View of all of the parts: Front View: Side View: Upclose Blower Pulley: Upclose Crank Pulley: -
Dave... now thats some incredible work on those wheels. I am sure it was a pain in the butt to get those angles correct on the rims and then to have them match. But then again you could probably do them in your sleep with youe machining experience. I am lookimg forward to your next update.

John... Thanks buddy... It's slow progress but coming along little by little. Clayton... Thank you very much. I think it will make it look much better once I get some primer on it and it will make more sense what I am doing then. Joe... Thanks buddy.... As far as those bends go, I am just eyeballing it and winging it. I think they are good enough for John's girls... lol Danno... Thank you buddy... I really like your pun there . Great to see you yesterday. Tim... Thank you my Friend. you know me that there are some things that I am trying not to cut corners and trying to make it as accurate as I can. I am glad you enjoy how I share each of the steps. I do that to show everyone how I am doing it. I know it may not always be the correct way to approach things but Its working for me...lol. Actually I am doing a little tinkering on the Vega today. I am at my computer designing up some more parts for the build that I will need to have 3D printed. Hopefully I will have some 3D models to show you later. I have really missed working on it and will be back on it hard. I need to finish it up.

Jamie... Thank you very much. It is definitely a different type of build... lol So I have been getting some more bench time here and there this past week and after getting the windows in it was time to sand off all of the kits side molding and add the new molding. I am getting closer but not 100% done. I have have a few more pieces to add to the one that is almost done and then I need to do the same to the other side panel. Here are a couple of pics. Here I have sanded all of the side molding off: Next I actually glued some styrene pieces to the body to use as a pre-body filler to fill a few gaps. I forgot to take a pic after I glued the pieces on but what you see here is after I had sanded the pieces all down: In this pic you can see the trim that I have added to the side panel on the left and the one on the right still needs to be done:

Mooneyzs replied to tyrone's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Tyrone... I am totally digging the color combo on this one. Love that green and black. is the vinyl top going to be black or will it be a green shade? This thing has a stance that just shows this car has and Attitude... Freaking Killer!!! -
Tim... Thank you. I also have to say that I think it will look better doing it this way that I am going to attempt. But we shall see. I still have another trick up my sleeve for something else I am going to do to the body. Dave... Thank you very much. It still has a ways to go...lol

Mooneyzs replied to Codi's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Tim... every time i think you have out done yourself you next post always pushes that bar higher. I Havea long ways to go to get to yoir level. That master cylinder is gorgeous. Nice job on it. Can't wait to see whats in store next. -
Mark... Nice job on this. It turned out great!
-
Joe.... it all changed once the lenght of the body wass shortened. Plus after studying pics of the real car that when i noticed the molding lines were thinner than what was on the kits body. So I decided that i would sand the sides smooth and make all new trim moldings for it. Hopefully it turns oit the way I want.

John... Thanks brother... It feels good to be back at the Bench. Clayton... Thank you very much. You definitely need to go thru that stuff and use what you can for helping with your builds. Dan... Thank you very much. Joe.... I am a little confused what you mean by the belt line details?? if you are talking about the side molding that was molded in to the body, That was a planned moved to sand it down. My next step is to sand the rest of the side molding's down and then I will be redoing all of that molding. You will get a better idea of what I am doing once I start to redo it.

Well Fellas.... Its that time again for another little update. I have been getting a little time here and there but not as much as I have been wanting to lately but I got some work done on the windows of the coach body and figured I was overdue for an update... lol. Here we go.... I started out by figuring out what size I needed to make for the window and made a template from a 3x5 card: As you can see here I had to modify the body and remove some more of the kits plastic to get the shape correct for the window area: Up next was to finish cutting the other side out. Also you can see that I made the window areas with some evergreen styrene sheets: Here is both of the sides with the windows glued in place. I had to do the same to the other side and cut and remove parts of the body for the window treatment: Here is the body taped on for another test fit: As you can see here I removed material from the front of the body which will be the area that the driver will see thru while down on all 4 wheels:

Mark..... Thanks. Man that looks great with the driver in it. The contrast with the colors look great. I got to admit that i have been having some cool ideas for one of the ones I want to build. I know I want to remove the molded in steering rod and add RB Motion Rod ends to a fabricsted steering rod. I am planning on doing a version with the body panels and am tossing aeound two Ideaa for a paint scheme bit think I am pretty sure about ont of them. I wish there was an aftermarket chain in that scale like they have for the 1/12 scale bikes. Anyway I may have to break one out soon and stary tinkering with it. Doesnt seem it would take too long to build either.
