  1. Mike... Thank you very much. you need to get back on that build Keith... Thanks. This build is still going. It got pushed to the side for a bit just because I needed a little break from it and in the mean time I had started working on something else. I am trying to get some work done to this one this weekend.
  2. Here is a shot of the roll cage straight on from behind: Another back view: Little Top Down View:
  3. Here is the Frame, Roll Cage and Floor Pan: Here is the Cage on the Frame.. Not soldered together yet: Straight on shot of the Roll Cage: Another shot: Back View:
  4. Another shot of the back portion of the roll cage: Here was the start of the main hoop for the roll cage: Here is the roll cage completed: Back Side: Opposite side: Bottom:
  5. Here is the main roll cage bottom portion off of the frame: Here is the mock up of the Roll Cage, getting things in place. In this pic these parts are just place for reference only at the moment prior to soldering: Here I have more mocked up before soldering. As you can see here the main hoop still needed to be trimmed down: Here I was trying to get the start of the hoop set for when I soldered it: Here is a few pieces of the roll cage soldered into place:
  6. Alright Fellas.. I have a pretty big update to share with you. Please forgive me if some of the pics look crappy some were taken with my cell phone. Bear with me me I have a bunch to upload and they will be uploaded in separate posts.... I won't keep you guys waiting anymore, here are some pics...... I had started with making a template from a 3x5 card for the floor pan: I made the floor pan from K&S Aluminum .010" Sheet. I scuffed it with scotch-brite in one direction to give it a brushed aluminum look: Here it is sitting in the frame: Next up is the Roll Cage. I went back and did a quick detail drawing of all of the components so I knew sizes and lengths to cut my parts. Printed the drawing out 1:1 so I could place my parts over to make sure I had bent the to the correct sizes: Here was the start of the roll cage with the main hoop and the rear supports: Here is the main bottom portion of the cage done:
  7. Tim.. HOLY SCHNIKES!!!! I just messed myself in a good way.... LOL.... May that is some Crazy Awesomeness right there!! I definitely admire your skills and patience!! That seat and seat mount brackets look awesome. Keep up the great work!
  8. Clayton... Thank you. I took extra time to ensure that things were lined up properly before I soldered...lol Dale... Thank you. Joe... I sure am... just wait until my next update. Danno... Gracias Amigo!! Brent... Thanks. I drew it all up in Solidworks and detail the drawings so I had something to work from Tim... Thank you so much. I am totally stoked how its coming a long. Although I want to design a tube notcher for the brass tubes so I don't have to file them by hand with a file... That was a pain in the butt. I have had this miniature notcher in the back of my mind for a while now. But I have to admit that its pretty fun to play with brass. Ben... Thank you Bill... Thank you. Also thanks for asking the question on how I went about measuring things. I started out with a side view of the wheel stander and from Ed Jones telling me that the wheel base was 119". That was my starting point. I printed the side view pic out on an 11x17 sheet of paper and from there I took many measurements with my Calipers on the drawing, writing down the measurements. After getting all the measurements I wanted I then converted those measurements into what they would be in a calculation. So as you can see below what I have called out as a basic dimension the 11.130" that was equivalent to the 119" wheel base. I did all of my calculations based from that and it gave me the dimensions. I did have to make a few assumptions because I didn't have pics showing every detail of the frame. I used the pics I had the best i could see things. Here is a shot of the measurements I took on paper. If you would like I could show you a pic of the equation that I used, just let me know: Art... Thank you Dave... Thank you Scott... Thanks buddy!! Ok Fellas... I am working on getting some pics uploaded at the moment and will have a pretty good update for all of you so stay tuned...
  9. Hey Brother... Just wanted to Say Happy Birthday!!!! Hope you have had a great day Hopefully you don't get to wild and crazy tonight...
  10. Dude... Your MInions are kicking butt. The work you are doing to the body is pretty awesome. I really like what you have done. Heck this could be the "Minion Express" lol. You are doing a lot of work on the body. I can't wait til I can start hacking mine up. I like how you are incorporating the material pattern on the inside of the doors. Going to be so cool when you get this in primer and paint. Tell your minions to get back to work and quit taking selfies with the coach...
  11. Brad... Awesome work on the Alclad. I am loving the mock up and glad to see you are getting some bench time.
  12. John... My Brother.... what a Freaking Awesome update man!!! Holy smokes that is some Bad A$$ stuff right there. I am super impressed and don't know where to start... lol. You need to hurry up and get some paint on that body... I am jonesing to see it all together with your custom paint job you are doing.... Have I mentioned I am ready for another update...
  13. Mitch... Thank you. I really appreciate the kind words and that this build has been an inspiration to you. I will be getting some time on this build over the weekend. so stay tuned and hopefully I will have some pics up Saturday. I have actually missed working on this one.
  14. Here is a few pack of Diodes from Ebay very cheap. http://www.ebay.com/itm/50PCS-GERMANIUM-DIODE-ST-DO-35-1N34-1N34A-/360774079280?hash=item53ffcf9330 http://www.ebay.com/itm/10PCS-GERMANIUM-DIODE-1N34A-DO-7-new-/231675159745?hash=item35f0ea64c1 http://www.ebay.com/itm/100PCS-Germanium-Diode-SEMTECH-ST-DO-35-1N60P-1N60/261030223032?_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D33058%26meid%3D18da46b61d264421af53af0f6a1a53ec%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D2%26rkt%3D6%26mehot%3Dpp%26sd%3D151189110207 http://www.ebay.com/itm/50-x-1N4148-Diodes-DO-35-USA-SELLER-Free-Shipping-/181837172296?hash=item2a56570e48 Heck if you have an electronics store by you, you could always go there and check them out and take a look at them in person. Radio Shack should have them as well. That is if you can find a radio shack anymore. The one by me they closed down so I am not sure why or if they weren't making money or if they are just going away
  15. John.... My Brother.... HOLY SMOKES!!!! This most recent update is freaking Awesome my friend!!!! Your Alclad work always blows me away. You are the best Alclad painter I know of. The detail to the engine is just killer. And that parachute set up looks perfect. You have me speechless at the moment with everything you have done here. It really makes me want me want to get more work done to mine now. You are always inspiring me with your work. Keep up the killer work!!
  16. Brad.... that is awesome buddy. I can't wait to see them in Alclad. I am so reqdy for it to stsrt coolong off so we can start painting again here.
  17. Mitch... I haven't had any updates lately, Is why you haven't seen anything new on this. I had a small speed bump and sorta put it aside and actually was looking at ways to fix it last week. Found a solution and hoping to get some bench time in today on this one.
  18. So I finished up the main frame just now. Pretty happy with how it turned out. its not perfect but good enough for me at this point. Next I will either tinker on the roll cage or start hacking the body up. Not sure at the moment but I was also thinking of making the Aluminum floor. Here are the shots of the chassis so far.... Here is the chassis in its glory.... It still needs a little clean up: Bottom Side: Top Side: Front: Rear: Joints upclose:
  19. Brent... Thank you very much. My plan is to work on the funny car a little tomorrow. Bob... Thank you very much. This has been a nice change up of things.
  20. John... My Brother as usual your work Looks awesome. I love the detail on the engine so far. BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH that starter is killer too. You are knocking this out of the park like you do on everyone of your builds. the spark plug wires with the boots just awesomeness right there. I can't wait to see your next update you post.
  21. Joe.... Looking good. This is coming along nice. The leaf springs are off to a great start and looking good.
  22. Brad... is there anywhere close by you that you could get some silver solder?? I am not sure if Hobby Depot carries it or not. Heck maybe radio shack does but I don't know where there are any more of them around. They recently closed the one that was closest to me. I know you can get it from Micro Mark but ordering it defeats the purpose I know its a little more expensive but maybe worth a shot to try for the parts you want to plate. I use a 60/40 solder myself and I think I may have to pick up some silver solder for some joints that I know I would love to try and plate one of these days.
  23. Tim.. What I would give to be mentored by Dave. He has helped me with a lot of little things in the back ground of the Army Funny Car. Anytime I had any questions he was more than willing to answer them. I really wish I had a mill to make my own parts. I thinks is a great idea that you are going to start another build so you won't burn yourself out on this one. That is one of the reasons why I have started another build or two while doing the funny car. I can't wait to see what you do on the '71 funny car, seeing what you are doing here I know that you are going to Rock the funny cars world...lol
  24. Clayton... Thank you. It was funny getting that frame side together. Tim.. Thank you so much. It felt really good to be back at the bench from being gone from it for a little wile. I wanted to challenge myself to use brass on this one. It is actually for me to practice for the next build or two that I would like to do in brass...lol Brad... Thank you my friend. A few of the joints I got a little more solder on them than I wanted so I ended up sanding them down. Was a little tricky. with how big the areas are to heat up with the solder gun. I think today I may try a bigger tip to see if that helps at all with the heat distribution. My plan was to of gotten the other side done yesterday and the cross members added as well but IT took me longer to get the first side soldered together than I thought. So I should be finishing up the other side and the cross members today. I will then maybe start on the cage but was thinking of bouncing back over to the funny car. to do some work on a fix that I need to do with the body tin.
  25. Paul... Thanks you. Yes this miter box isn't so easy with brass... lmao.. I do have an aluminum miter box that I use but it only has 45 and 90 degree cuts and I picked this Midwest Easy Miter Box up last weekend so I could do the cuts for this chassis. Clayton... Thank you. I will be jumping back and forth between the funny car and this build. Would be awesome if you could make it out the next Desert Scale Classic here Ok Fellas.... So this evening I sat down and started to Solder the chassis up. Well I didn't get as much done as I thought... Took me 2 hours to get done what you see here.....
