Henry J Twin Turbo - Didn't see that coming..........
Mooneyzs replied to Codi's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Tim... super Impressive work on thr machined parts. They are tiny once the penny is in the pic. I just admire tour work and talents. I hope I can get to that point of machining parts that nice one day. I first need to get the machines ro do the work...lol. looking forward to your next update already. -
Art... you have been a busy bee Brother!! Glad ro see you getting in some bench time. That is some awesome work You are doing there. I know what it is like to get stuck on a mental block on trying to get something figued out for those birdcage mounts. with your talents i know you will be able to figure something out. I am not sure if you can modify the dirt modeler parts or if use them as a template to create your own by chance out of brass? Keep up the great work And I look forward to your next update.

Tim... I am thoroughly impressed by these shocks. Holy Smoke did you knock them out of the park. Makes me want to box up the Army Funny Car and start collection Dolls...lol As Bob said above these things are mind blowing. I could only imagine what you could do on a 1/16th scale build. You are one of those top notch builders I look up too. Thank you for sharing your work with us here. I think I learn something from every post. -

Danno... Thank you and thank you for the kind comments on the Elky Scott... Thank you. it sure makes it seems like its coming together now. I just need to focus on the other engine parts so I can get it done...lol Randy... Thank you my friend and I appreciate the comments on the Camino. Clayton... Thank you. I think we all need to be honest and say that I have already gone past insane....LMAO I will probably need to be put in the Looney Bin after this build. To be honest I think I actually put only 1 coat but it was a little heavier than just a quick pass with how I apply it. Then after the light buff I had to go back and touch up a couple areas that I rubbed Alclad off. once that was done I shot 1 coat of the Alclad Aqua Gloss over it to seal it. Thanks on the Camino.... I need to get her fired back up its been a few years. I have had some trouble with the Carb and need to buy a new one. I miss driving her. She used to be my daily driver, I took it over when I was 16 and my dad got the car back in 1973 before I was born. Bob... Thank you. Stay tuned because I am hoping to get more progress done today. I really was hoping to get the tranny painted but a few things have taken me little longer. I got some primer on the parts last night but I need to go back and do some body work in a few areas to clean my mess up on them...lol Henry... Thank you Brad... Thank you. That sounds great. I was gonna get ready to run to the paint store and hobby shop real quick then I will be home the rest of the day. got some cleaning of the house to do then the rest of the time will be all bench time.... oh Yeah!!! Mike... Thank you. I have to say I was pretty stoked about the bottles. I just wish they would of ran the one I will be using for the fire bottle on this build. I guess I have to be patient... haha. I am glad I asked you about doing the wash the other day. It breaks it up just enough. No wild horse today as much as I would of loved being out there I had some other things that I needed to get done today. Joe... Thank you. I need to push myself even more so I can have this close to being done by DSC. I am at the point where I want to see the whole engine together now. I would say I am close. I need to finish redrawing the injector hat and have it printed again. I started drawing up the Mallory ignition box. Then I need to draw up the K Style Barrel valve as well as the fuel distribution blocks. Then I think the engine is practically almost done. Oh yeah I can forget the distributor. Lets just say I am getting closer... haha. My Camino has been painted this color since 1994 it is Chevrolet GM code 39 Indigo Blue which was off the 1993 chevy trucks and we added an extra pint of the blue pearl in it to change it just a tad. Alright fellas off to do a couple of errands so I can get back and get on this build..... -

Then I had to modify the reverser section to match the one in the funny car. I had to add a portion of the rib back to it: Here is a shot of the real car, you have to look close but you can see the rib on the reverser: Then I added a little bit of a wash in the ribs on the valve covers and I had to set the parts on the engine to finally see what it looks like on it. So far I am quite happy with the results and how it looks. Just wish I had the engine finished...lol Here is the other side: -

Ok Fellas... Got a few pics to show you what I have been up to on this build. Actually this week I had the guys at work turn some bottles for me. although they haven't done all of them yet but I wanted to show a few of what they started on for me. I had drawn all of these up in Solidworks and they used the 3D model to program one of the CNC lathes at work to make them. And I worked on more transmission work tonight.... here are a few pics.... Here are some of the bottles. these are just 2 of the 5 different sizes and styles I drew up: Little bit of bondo work to the bellhousing: Here is the Lenco CS2 piece which needs to be converted to a CS1 to look like whats in the Army Vega Funny car: Here I am drilling out the hole to move the shifter plunger: Here it is with the modifications before I shoot some primer on it: -

Martin.... Thank you. No the car that is lurking in the back ground isn't keeping me from this build... lol Here are a few shots of my 1971 Chevy El Camino.... Bob... Thank you so much. You are completely right that Alclad isn't that hard to use at all. The motor is taking a little more shape for sure. I would love to have it done though...lol John.... What can I say my brother but I have learned from the Best with the Alclad from you. No way could I take your place you are the master when it comes to it. -

Brad.... You continue to amaze me with your skills brother. The work you have been doing on this is just killer. you have that nitch for those little details. The work on the structure is very clean and looked like it could of caused some headaches in the process...lol I can't wait till you get all of the interior goodness stuffed inside this bad boy. Keep up the Killer work my friend!

Scott... I will be honest I probably waitied 15 minS or so before i did a light bufd with a tissue. there is also a little more to the "Teresi" method besides spraying it at a higher temp. I sorta do little circlea with the airbrush wjen spraying it veraus how Alclad says to shoot it at an angle to the serface. Hope this makes sense. Tim... thank you. I found that i got better results trying it the way John does his. His Alclad work is beautiful. To any modeler I would say do what works best for you. If you need to tweak it a tad i say go for it. I find it so cool to learn from others on here. Art... thanks brother. It feels like its starting to come together And progess is being made. I can't wait to aee more of the engine painted and together. Hans... when it comes to gluing my e fine parts together I will most likely use some epoxy and micro scales krystal klear. I do use plasti zap and zap a gap from time to time in painted parts but i dont want to risk the fogging/hazing on these parts. To be honest a lot of the engine i have used hardware that I bolt it together with. Which will eliminate any glue. Brad... thank you. It has felt goot to get a little paint down. Hoping to get the bell housing and ispection plate buttoned up tonight so I can paint it over the weekend. Ray... thank you very much -

Joe... you are welcome my friend. I have to say that John is the best Inknow when it comes to alclad. He is the Alclad master in my opinion. Regardless of what you are spraying.... body or parts..... alclad or paint. The better you prep anything the better your results will be. Thats from my own experience. I would suggest sraying at a few different pressures and see what works best for you. As far as pressure to spray alclad. I believe they recomment 12-15 psi. I personally shoot it at 25 to 30 psi at a farrther distance away and little different method. Mike... thank you. I am happy with them at this point. I am sure they could be better but calling them good. plus he fact I dont want to start from the beginning again on these parts if I was to strip them. I need to be able to finish this thing sometime this year... LMAO -

Henry... Thank you very much. Bob... Thank you. It feels good to have these parts painted. Joe... Thanks Buddy. You are so right about the colors not looking the same in pics and in person. I will tell you that I used the black base from them the first time I used it. After I talked to John Teresi way back he told me how he sprayed his and I tired his method and I found I got better results spraying it the way he told me versus the method and pressure how alclad says. He also told me that he instead of the alclad base he sprayed a rattle can black and then cleared it with a urethane clear. So the next time I sprayed it I tried it by spraying my HOK black base and my urethane clear over it for the base which I found that I personally got a better result spraying Alclad over that than the Alclad black base. I had to experiment to learn how to spray it better. I hope this helps but I can explain it better when you are here at the DSC in April. The other big thing I would say is taking the time to prep the part. the better you have it prepped the better your results end up. I would experiment with a few bases and see what you get the best result with. I have to admit that I did a bunch of spoon samples for practice. -

After getting the Alclad sprayed on I took a tissue to buff it just a tad and then sprayed Alclads Aqua Gloss over it which it toned the polished down just a bit but I think it still turned out ok. Here are a few different shots of it. I apologize that I wasn't able to get some really good pics of it. I was having trouble with the lighting: -

Ok Fellas.... I got a little bit done today after I got home from work..... You guessed it. I decided to do a little more painting today and well here it is..... Here is the start of my painting session today. I decided to spray a little on my test body first: Here is Alclad Polished Aluminum on the valve covers and blower: Upclose of the blower: -

Tyrone....wow wow wow.... this is one beautiful build. I sure love the window frames, awesome job. Every build of yours is always more impressive than the next. Keep up the killer job. -
Jeff... nice progress on the engine. It is looking killer. I want to say that the TDR chassis wheel base is 115" but I am not positive the size they drew it up to. 115" is the max wheelbase for Pro Mods. if I am correct you are doing a Top Sportsman And I am not sure what the allowable wheel base is for them. I could check my NHRA rule book.
-
Oh Art.... I have got hawk Midget on the brain. Love the update on your front suspension. It looks killer as Does this whole chassis.
-
Darryl.... I sure love seeing your builds. they always put a smile on my face. I really love all of your diorama bases you do too. It give me inspirstion to do one in 1/16th scale one of these days. Keep up the great work and I look fotward to yoir next build.

Mike... thank you... oops I should of told everyone i waa trying to fire it up...lol. plese feel free to use any of my ideas as you will like. You can let me know if you have quesrions and I will be more than happy to help. I can't wait til you get started on your build for yourself. Brad... i guess that is marking another milestone huj...lol i just realized i think I owe you pics that I need to send. The day hasent beem as Productive as I was hoping. Joe...thanks man. The funny thing is that i did blow the tank off. I guess I thought I got all the water out. I am totally stoked that the side tins turned out the way they did. Well fellas after spending some time sanding the transmission pieces. I have realized that the shapeways Lenco pieces are of their CS2 Style and the Army car actually has the CS1 style. So that means i will need to make a little modofication to this one... lol basically where tje shifter pod goes on the body the CS2 is offset from the centerline of the case where as the CS1 is on centerline. -

Hans.... Thank you. What I have found that helps the paint work is the prep for it. Pretty much most of my primered parts get wet sanded before I paint them. The smoother you can get it the better your paint will lay down. I will be honest I am so much happier with the tins this time. I just wish I didn't have to redo the tank and tank strap but its ok Danno... Thank you buddy. Its coming along little by little. Bob... Thank you. Yeah gotta say it felt good to get this stuff painted yesterday. Today I will be getting to the bench but I need to do a few house chores first... dishes, clean bathrooms and toss in laundry....lol Then its to the bench I will go and I am going to jump back on the transmission getting it prepped so I can get it painted soon. I also heard that about the Acetone but that only works on ABS material from what I recall. I know you can take the frosted ultra detail parts from Shapeways and soak it in Acetone and it will remove the waxy material that was left on it from the printing process. Scott aka FutureAttraction told me that trick. But I have leads on 2 other print shops I am going to try and from what I saw the quality may be a tad better than shapeways but I have to see how it prices out as well. Scott... Thank you. I love painting and you can't go wrong with shooting automotive paint guess its my choice of paint for bodies and other parts. not that I am against the hobby paints it just I find I get better results with them. Brad... Thank you my friend. Yeah it pretty much ticked me off about the tank but maybe I shouldn't of washed the tank off. I probably should of wiped it down...lol. I am pretty happy with the blower and valve covers although I tried a different clear. I usually use PPG Concept 2020 Urethane clear (4 parts paint: 1 part reducer: 1 part hardner) and a while back I bought soom Kirker Automotive Urethane clear to try which is pre-reduced and all you have to do is add the Activator (hardner) its mixed 4 parts paiint to 1 part Activator. I am not sure if I am completely happy with this new clear. it seems that some of it still isn't quite hard. So I have tossed the parts under a heat lamp to see if that helps. Clayton... Thank you. Yeah It stinks when something else happens but it won't stop me..lol Well the blower and vlave covers just got the black base and clear so that I can Alclad them next. I just hope that the Alclad turns out ok and that the clear that was put on the blower wasn't too much to loose some of the detail. I shot 3 coats of clear but probably could of gotten away with 2. Get yourself to the bench but I know the whole motivation thing. I have gone thru struggles getting motivated on this build. I want to finish it so bad so I can move on to my next build but these little set backs where I keep redoing things just sorta burns me out from time to time. -

Here are the Chassis tins repainted. I am so much happier with the sheen on them now. They are done!: Close up shot of them: Well I had an issue with the fuel tank. after sanding all of my parts I washed them and didn't realize I got water inside of the tank and while I was painting the last coat I must of blown water out of one of the holes in the tank from the air brush. So this is what happened and I get to sand this guy down and repaint it once again...lol: Here is the chassis tin next to the chassis:
