  1. Ok Fellas.... got a little bench time in this weekend and worked on a few various items I had hanging over my head to fix...lol. Let me just get right to the pics since I have a bunch for you guys. Well here is some stencils that I ran across on ebay and had to order them to see if they would work for what I wanted. These are actually 1/12th scale stencils but I asked the seller on the measurements and thought they would possibly work for my need: Here they are out of the bag. I didn't realize they had two different sizes: And here is me fitting them up to the rear slicks for the car, I was so stoked that the larger one will work for my application. I have been wanting to find or possibly even make a stencil that I could paint the lettering on the tires instead of using decals: Then I started messing around with making brackets for the parachute release lever I have from Future Attraction's Cockpit controls photo-etch set. I used some other photo-etch pieces from Pro Techs throttle linkage set to make the mounting base from: Here is a view of the parachute lever from the opposite side:
  2. Dave.... Thank you very much my friend. It is great to see you here. Sure miss progress on your pro mod build but I know you are still playing with the 1:1 and hope it is coming along nice for you.
  3. Mark... Thank you for checking in my friend. It's great to hear from you. I have had that Badger Model 200 for over 20 years and its my go to airbrush. I had to send it into badger maybe 2 years ago and they fixed it and all it cost was 8 to 10 bucks for the shipping. They had to change the seal inside the gun and they also sent it back with a new style head on it. Since then I have actually picked up two more that I found on ebay. Once which I am only going to shoot my clear and innercoat clear out of and the other that I am debating just shooting solid colors out of. I also picked up an Iwata Neo Gen from Hobby Lobby that I didn't spend much on to try it out. Although I am not as comfortable with it as I am with my badger. My house of Kolor paints that I am spraying are mostly all base coats and I use either the 311 (medium Reducer) or 312 (slow reducer) depending on the tempurature it is outside and I haven't had any problems with them what so ever. The clear I spray over them is PPG concept 2020 that I have had for quite some time. I bought a quart of clear years ago and its lasted a long time. every so often I need to buy new catalyst for it since it can go bad. IF you want I can take a pic and post of the reducers for you. By the way have you been able to work on any of your 1/16 scale builds. I am itching to see if you have gotten more progress on that altered you were working on. Hope all is well. Paul... I have never tried using regular lacquer thinner to reduce my HOK paints. Guess I am not brave enough to try.... lol
  4. Mike... thank you for the kind words. It means alot. Dave... thank you. I sure am trying on the details. Art... thanks Brother I am planning on hitting the bench shortly after I get home from work this afternoon. Mark... thank you. I have to admit after getting these few parts painted it has put some motivation back in me. It felt so good to spray sometging more than primer... lol and I am itching to lay down some more paint already. Tim... Thank you. After going back and looking at the pics. That blue does stand out from the black and aluminum on the other parts. It gives a great contrast so far. Ep... thank you. After a lot of research i have been digging in for the blue on the body. I couldnt tell if it was a metallic or solid color and I came to the solution with help from some other that it was a solid. I had my local PPG auto paint supply store mix up a base color that was close to the pics I showed them. Honestly I would love to know the exact color that was used that way I get it correct. I may try another source to see if I could find out the exact color. Steve... Thank you.
  5. Arron... Thank you. I know it wasnt much of an update but was very excited ro get to squirt a little paint on the car. John... my brother what can I say. I didnt mean for you to get things dirty... lol Joe... thank you I felt so good to paint somehing more than primer. I almost forgot what it was like to spray color...haha Bob... thank you John... sorry I stole a couple of yoir minions away for a few to help me paint those parts. They should be in their way back to you Danno.... thank you my friend.
  6. Tim... I am so Impressed and blown away by your talents. I love the fire bottle mounting brackets and the detail to the welds. Your work is very inspiring and it is pushing me to get more done on my funny car. keep up the great work and I look forward to your next update.
  7. Ok Fellas here are some pics that I didn't get uploaded last night on the parts that I got painted. Here they are: Here is the fuel pump. The body is Alclad steel and the cover plate is House of Kolor BC-25 black base: Here are the fittings. I sprayed them with HOK orion silver base and then with Tamiya clear blue: And as usual I had to mock the parts up snap a few pics:
  8. Mitch... Thank you for the kind words and you are right that I don't need to be beating myself over things...lol. Sorry to hear about the body on your funny car. Tim... Thank you very much for the kind words. I guess I was trying to capture every detail I could to make this look like the replica with trying to match colors for the transmission blanket. Oh wow its very cold for you guys there. It was about 65-70 degrees here yesterday when I sprayed my parts. I wanted to paint a week or two ago but it was in the 50's and tool cold to spray.
  9. Ok Fellas... time for a little update on a few things. Did a little work over the weekend. not as much as I was hoping though. Anyway I will just show the pics... I started messing with some colors for the transmission blanket. I picked up some Vallejo paint from Hobby Depot which is a local hobby store I get most of my supplies from. These were the colors that were painted right from the bottle to see how they looked. I picked up some black and white that I will tint to get the right shade I am looking for: This is the same paint with different lighting. I definitely need to do a custom mix: I got the tins primered over the weekend: Here is the backside: And for a sneak peak what I have been doing since I got home from work, I will show a few more pics later when done:
  10. John... Thanks Brother. its feeling good getting back to the bench. Tim... Thank you so much. Brad... Thank brother. yeah they were a little better than expected. Just had to do a little sanding to them. Mike... Thank you so much my friend. Happy New year to you too. Paul.... Thank you so much on that. I do have to say some of the clean up is tedious from Shapeways but would be easier if I didn't have all of those nooks and crannies to sand in....lol. I never knew which type of technology that shapeway uses But I know the Frosted Ultra Detail is UV cured. I do know someone with a Labforms printer. I may have to talk to him and see if I can have him print me a part to check out the quality from it. Danno.... HAHAHA I think you are right that it got stuck with the rest of the spam... Hakan... Thank you. Randy.... Thank you. Yeah the sanding can be a drag but all of the hard work on prepping it will pay off when its time to paint it. Its not hard sanding it but more rather that I am folding pieces of paper up and using my tweezers to hold the paper to sand. Think I need to come up with a better method Dave.... Hey its great to hear from you. Thank you. You know I have to be honest that I never read the label on the super clean. I have had no problems with it when I have stripped plastic parts. but its a lesson well learned and hopefully with me posting what happened it will save anyone else stripping aluminum parts...lol Dave.... That would be awesome to have a miniature media blast booth...lol.... Maybe I can just borrow Mr. Teresi's little minions and give them some sand paper to sand away. Although I have heard that they can be expensive to rent.... hahaha
  11. Johnny Boy... Holy Crapola!!! I think I just messed myself.... . This is going to be another famous "Teresi" builds and I like it so far. I can't not wait to see more of this come together. You are gonna knock this one out of the park. But I think we are going to have to talk.... I had no clue you like to play with Barbies.... . Keep up the great work brother. So excited to see you on a new build.
  12. Well Fellas... I have finally gotten back to the bench now that Christmas and New Years is past us its time for quick update. I have started to fix the chassis tins. I got the side tins stripped and read for primer as well as I got the blower sanded again and a quick coat of primer, which reveals more sanding in my future...lol. Anyway gonna be a weekend that I pretty much will be building for most of it. Hoping to get some good progress this weekend. Here are some pics... Well here are the side chassis tins and the brake lever. I tossed them in a jar of lacquer thinner to strip these. Now just a little sanding and they will be ready for primer: Here is the blower once again. Last night I spent at least and hour and half just sanding this part. What tedious work...lol: I got the fuel tank reprimered after installing the supply port. only to notice that I have a little more body work on the thing: After all of that sanding on the blower. Once I primered it thought it would be good. But no... More sanding in my future....lol I think I am gonna be sick of sanding this one part very soon... hahaha :
  13. I am not sure I would say I have resolutions but more of a goal or two this year. I am hoping to finish my 1/16th scale Army Vega Funny Car this year. Would really love to finish it before GSL but no way am I a going to compromise the build just to finish it in time. The length of detail I have been trying to achieve on it, I don't want to ruin it by trying to rush it at all. with that said I am super excited to start a couple other 1/16th scale builds once I finish this one up. I have 3 I know I want to do right away but have bigger list of builds I want to do than that. One of the builds is really close to my heart since it was the reason for my love of drag racing. This hobby is fun and relaxing to me. I guess you can say its therapeutic for many of us. I just want to keep it fun and continue to push my limits, learn from others there and expand my building skills. I feel I have a lot to learn still.
  14. Tim... absolutely incrediable work my friend. That work is just beautiful. You are the new Sherriff in town for sure. Love your work. Those fire bottles are just killer. I am just blown away the detail you are accomplishing in 1/25th scale makes me feel I need to step up my detail in 1/16th scale...lol
  15. John...John...John...what can I say other than both of your builds are gorgeous and look killer. Nice work Brother. Hey I need to give you a call, got a couple things I need to ask... lol
  16. I still would love to see a pic of your printer set up. I like the fact that the price is much cheaper than buying. Another good site to find 3D models is 3DContentcentral.com. all of the parts that I have modeled and drawn up has been in Solidworks. You can see some of them in my 1/16th scale Army Vega funny car build thread. I could also post some pics of various parts I have modeled and printed up for my build.
  17. Doug.... Thank you so much for taking the time to explain it. That is awesome you built this printer for 1/3 the cost of these others out in the market. I have been eyeing a 3D printer because I think it would be awesome to have and print my own parts. But I have been sending my 3D models to Shapeways and having them print them in the Frosted Ultra detail for my 1/16th scale builds. That is so cool you can get down to a 10 micron layers. I might have to consider building my own printer one day but at the moment I really would love to get a mini mill and lathe so I can machine some parts. Do you have a pic of your printer you could share with us by chance? and from what I am gathering here is that the DLP printer is beter than the SLA printers. Looking forward to seeing more parts that you print up.
  18. Very nice. What was the brand and model number of this printer? I would be interested in looking at the resolution. I know makerbots are 100 microns... formlabs printers are 25 microns. And this part looks way better than a makerbot printed part.
  19. Tim... a while back I picked up a 1/43rd scale North American Eagle LSR resin kit. Its a F104 jet that was converted to a LSR car. It looks sweet but at one of oir local swapmeets. I picked up a 1/32 scale F104 that I am gonna convert to a LSR of this North American Eagle. Thought it would be cool.
  20. Tim.. This is outstanding my friend... I am totally digging it and can't wait for more. You are a pure craftsman. I am blown away at what you have done with this. Its gonna be another masterpiece just like your Henry J. I am already itching for an update on this bad boy. Seeing this makes me want to build the LSR car that I want to do.
  21. Danno... and you are just telling me that now buddy?? I guess I never got the memo before LMAO Scott.... Thanks brother.... OH man that is some great news about cleaning the was off the FUD material on the 3D printed parts. I am going to try that one some of the others I have to see how it does. I think I have some in my garage. If not I will pick some up at Lowes. This little speed bump won't stop me, I will just have to spend a short amount of time remaking the new tin. just glad I still have my template and all I will really need to do is cut the material out bend it. The hardest part is going to be getting the mounting holes drilled in the correct location....lol Hakan... I sure learned my lesson on using the purple pond with metal. Althought I am going to a sample test by putting a pieces of aluminum and brass tube in the pond to see what it does. I think it may be cool to be able to use that technique to use for a diorama or some sort of weathering. I learned from a dear friend years ago to use Ammonia to remove chrome off chrome plated parts. it seems to work pretty good and doesn't take too long. but I will try the pond as well. Randy.... Thank you for the kind words about this build. I really have been enjoying sharing this build pretty much step by step so everyone can see how I am doing things. I have to say I am pretty fascinated with the 3D printed parts and being able to create parts that aren't available so eventually I will make them available on Shapeways but before I do I want to get them proved out first since I have had a few features not print correctly or should I say left off... lol for example on my injector hat for the blower it left off some of the holes for the injector lines and the butterfly shaft. and I believe the reason is because I made the hole to be .016" and I think its a limitation of the printing machine. so I will have to open some of them up to .020" to see what happens the next time its printed. I don't think the floor pan should slow me down too much hoping it will only be a 1-2 hour fix is all. Guys stay tuned. .... I should be getting to the bench in a little while but I need to finish some house chores first than am hoping to break out the air brush to paint a couple of engine parts.... ie..... fuel pump, fuel shut off valve and the tee fittings. will post pics of them when I get them done.
  22. Greg... That is so awesome. Thank you for sharing. What I would love to go but it looks like its on a Friday here. Bummer cause I have to work...lol. I would love to learn how to make molds to make small parts.
  23. Niko... Very cool pics. Thanks for sharing. Can't wait to see the others.
  24. Henry.... That is so funny but so true... LOL Its a lesson learned and want everyone else to no not to do it. But it makes me want to test out a piece of brass and Aluminum tube in it just to see what happens as an experiment. Joe... I was actually shocked to see that it attacked it. but it is nice to be able to share my experience with it so that no one else here has to go thru what I did with it. It won't be hard to have to redo the piece other than just take a little bit of time. Ray... I never thought that was going to happen...lol but you are right its nothing that can't be handled and a new one can be made. Joe... That is so correct from remember what I did to make it the first time and the few prototypes that were made. I don't think it should take me too long to redo since I still have the template I made from a 3x5 card. It will just take a little bit of time is all.
  25. Henry... thanks man. I was happy with how the parts were made just wasn't 100% happy with the paint on them but it won't be hard to fix all of these and then they will look like new again...lol Brad... I have to agree with you I didn't think the purple pond would of attacked them like that. I think I still have a pretty good size sheet you gave me before. But if I need more you know I will be asking you...lol Stan... Thank you. Yeah wasn't good at all but its a good lesson for myself and anyone else using material like that or I would say aluminum in general, you probably don't want to put in the purple pond. I may have to test it with a piece of aluminum tubing to see if it does the same thing... lol
