If you're good you can make terminals out of appropriate size solder wire. I flattened the very ends slightly of the solder and then drilled a hole just larger enough for the battery post to go through. The cable end had another tiny hole drilled in and then epoxied the wire into it. Here's a pic showing this............... This battery was from my stillborn '64 GTO WIP........the cable ends could stand to be a scooch shorter, but you get the idea.

Where can I find PlastiKote primer?
MrObsessive replied to Austin T's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
CarQuest is the only place in my area that carries Plastikote, And yes, the price has gone up. I haven't tried Duplicolor primer in many years, but since I live right next door to an Advanced Auto, I'll definitely be giving it a try again down the road. I airbrush everything, so I'm not to concerned how it comes out the can. -
For Fotki, I simply right click on the pic and then hit, "Copy Image Location" and then put the URL in the image field that's in the image icon right above where you're typing. Picture shows right up as this one here does....................... Haven't had a problem with doing this way ever..........

Yikes! You got that right Chuck! I built one of these also back in the '80's and with my somewhat novice experience then, I was able to get it together with nary a trouble! I wish I still had it---------maybe I'll seek out another and build it again someday. I have about all of the 356 Porsches........a very overlooked kit these days! They can still be had on the 'Bay for very reasonable prices and if one takes their time, can be built without much trouble at all.

’61 Ford Starliner Mild Custom: Paint, Unmasked!
MrObsessive replied to John Goschke's topic in WIP: Model Cars
I think it looks great! Might look a little better though if there wasn't that anodizing on the quarter panels. BTW, this is one of my favorite years of Galaxies! It was the last of the fins for the big Fords------and it's a '61 (like me) so it can't be all bad! -
Looks like that body would take quite a bit of kit-bashing to get it right. As Ron mentioned, you could use the AMT '67 Impala for starters, but maybe graft the greenhouse on a '66 Riv, as that has the "hips" that the '67 Olds has. Some stretching seems in order as well, as Olds' B-bodies were a bit longer than the Chevys or Rivieras for that matter.

’61 Ford Starliner Mild Custom: Paint, Unmasked!
MrObsessive replied to John Goschke's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Thanks for posting this John! That's something that's bugged me too for some time. Not to mention..........the vent window "glass" is always a bit too deep inside the frame. The glass should fit nearly flush for a really nice appearance as you're showing with the added plastic ridge. Your "weatherstrip" detail reminds me that I have to do the same thing on my '59 Chevy Impala WIP when I get back to it. That's sorely missing on both the '59 and '60 kits, and it was something I've always noticed on the 1:1's. -
Terry! Great to see you here and that is one FANTASTIC Olds! Keep on postin'!

AMT '58 Plymouth Belvedere CHRISTINE kit
MrObsessive replied to cooltoys1's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Yeah, I had heard that from someone.............. It's too bad-----what could have been a knockout/accurate kit, turned into nothing more than a mediocre one. -
No, I didn't forget about this one! Just a small update as I'm about through with building it. A very nice kit if I may say so.......not much to fuss with at all save for the wheels which are not part of the kit. OK, here are some pics.......... Well, the interior is about done! Just some touching up to do in spots, but she's pretty much complete. The wheels are now permanently mounted, and I did get the ride height that I wanted per the 1:1. Just a matter of rubbing out the passenger side of the body, putting in the glass, mounting the lights, etc. The up-top will eventually be painted flat black, as well as the boot cover. Hopefully, by this time next week, it'll be all done and under glass! Thanks for lookin'!

AMT '58 Plymouth Belvedere CHRISTINE kit
MrObsessive replied to cooltoys1's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
As they came out of the factory in '57-'58, there may have been a misalignment or two of the trim, not a "curve" as what's seen on the RC2 body. I was at our local Chrysler's at Carlisle show years ago, and I spoke at length to a fellow right at the side of his pristine '58 Belvedere with the "sport trim". He commented to me that he bought the kit because there was finally a detailed model of his car that he could build (he had the kit with him), but was very turned off by the "curved trim". Now I saw in 3D, and as he pointed out--------the trim (top part) should be straight from nose to tail, with the bottom part angling up to meet the front fender. The tailfins start just behind the door at a very slight angle upward, and then bump up further towards the rear. RC2 missed this detail by a long shot choosing to keep the beltline straight (almost), and then bump the fin upwards. This gives the body that "bent banana" look that's been talked about............. Hmmm..............I just MIGHT do a rather lengthy tutorial on how to fix this body once and for all, and without a lot of expense of buying a Johan (nee X-EL) '59 Dodge or Plymouth to fix that roof. Of course I want to finish that '59 Chevy first, and then I have to think about the '58 Plymouth. It's just that for many years now, that kit has bugged me, and IMO it will never be fixed correctly by Round 2. -
Very Sharp! The subtle weathering looks really good! I have this kit------in fact this is the first model I ever won on eBay 11 years ago. I keep seeing it occasionally, and I'm tempted to build (actually rebuild) it and stick a 426 Hemi in it!

Even the frames are not quite the same for the '55-7 Chevys and Pontiacs. IIRC, the wheelbase difference is noticeable as the Pontiacs were longer-----especially between the leading edge of the front door, and the trailing edge of the front wheelwell. I've seen conversions done in the past as fellas have tried to base the Pontiacs on the Chevys, and they always appear a bit too "short" to me. Still, it would be nice to see a '57 Pontiac Safari for instance, or maybe a '57 Olds 88-98 (would make a nice stock car racer!)

Hey! I live right next door to one! I gotta check this out! Thanks for the heads up Jim!

I'll be watching this one as I have the '78 Monogram reissue. The roofline inaccuracy is a new one for me, and I have a number of pics for this car! Matt, which heat source did you use to form the plastic? Heat gun, hair dryer, mini torch? I'll need to do something similar as I'll have to mold a windscreen and backlite for the '59 Chevy when I get back around to it. BTW, 2 liter soda bottle plastic would work well for this technique..........the plastic is PET which comes out optically correct for molding windows and such. Keep up the great work!

BEAUTIFUL Job RIch! Those fender skirts suit the body lines well! That engine compartment is VERY well done! Oh and BTW-----thanks for the heads up on the assembly foibles! Now I know what to look out for if I ever get around to doing mine.

What Do You Want To See Next?

1957-58 Studebaker Golden Hawk 1967-68 Ford Mustang Coupe 1955 Ford Thunderbird (never kitted in 1/24-25th) -
Why oh why hasn't the first year Trans Am ever been kitted?? To me it seems a no brainer!
-
Actually Tom, there were still shiny brand new '58's on the dealer's lots when you came along! I like to get things '61............even though my birthday's in October and the '62's would have been intro'd (or about to be), there were still plenty of new '61's waiting for someone to take them home. So those of us born around new model year intro time, we got the best of both worlds as we can collect two model years at the same time! Rich that '58 is lookin' mighty good! Inaccurate proportions notwithstanding, this is turning into a beautiful car!

Apparently Guido Fieuw of ScaleKraft in South Africa had one of these in the works years ago. I don't know if he ever produced any as he had a major accident years ago (mountain climbing), and got out of the hobby. Someone else may have more info than I..........I could have sworn I seen the AMX/3 on his webpage at one time though.
-
Here are your pics Guy................... Very nice and clean! For a first time trying a vinyl roof, yours is darn near perfect.......correct seams and all!
-
Hmmm........I hate to be a nay-sayer, but something about that pic doesn't seem right. Where are the skid marks that would put the car where it is?? Also, they say the car "didn't suffer much damage"-------but it's just something about the "damage" that seems odd. Oh well, if it's real-------someone's got a LOT of explaining to do!

Lookin for Advice - '57 Chevy Build
MrObsessive replied to andy12646's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Wouldn't it be easier to seek out Revell's '57 Black Widow kit? I believe the model is actually a 150 (not sure), but would save you a TON of work as there isn't much trim on the car to begin with. You could just make the trim you need with some Evergreen strip stock. Just seems to me a LOT less work to start off with something a bit more basic.
