BTW Antonio, is this a model? And if so, is it die-cast, resin, or........??? Looks sharp either which way! -

Now we're talkin' Antonio!! I LOVED those when they first debuted back in the fall of '79..........and would LOVE for someone to do a plastic kit of that! This car was Bill Mitchell's last hurrah, as I believe he retired not long after the car was first on his stylists drawing boards and in clay. A love/hate design for sure, but there's no mistaking one when you see it for anything else! In fact, I wouldn't mind having a very clean 1:1.....as long as it's NOT a diesel! -
I echo what Sam says...............put several coats of Future over it and that should put the kibosh on any further bleeding of that red plastic. Years ago, I did Monogram's '56 T-Bird that was molded in red, and I wanted a lighter color (Thunderbird Blue for a '55). I used Future on the bare plastic before primer. No problems with bleed through, and I've had it for 10+ years now.

Scale auto renaissance?
MrObsessive replied to Jantrix's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
As a teen in the mid-late '70's, I can vividly remember being disappointed year after year as the '70's wore on, with what the American manufacturers were putting out. Let's see-----Landau roofs, "Opera" windows, true two door hardtops were a thing of the past, and unless you were Cadillac, there was no such thing as a convertible. Another BIG annoyance was the "tape-stripe" package that was foisted on what were previously nice muscle cars. I guess if there were stripes on it, the manufacturers thought that actually made the car go faster? As Harry mentioned though, someone will want a model of a particular car that they owned or driven way back when even if it wasn't terribly popular in its day. Now frankly, I wouldn't mind having models of my Driver's Ed cars in High School.................. 1977 Cutlass Supreme two door 1977 Grand Prix 1977 Chevelle Malibu Not fast cars by any means, but pleasantly styled and nice cruisers in their day. -
Now that's some serious scratchbuilding! The top frame looks mighty nice-------if you were to lay cloth over that, the profile would be 'bout dead accurate. The inner structure for the doors and rear doglegs are dead on as well.

The full detail kit is not as hard as one would think.......if you REALLY take your time and work it through, it can build up into a very nice replica. The one I did needed a lot of flash trimming, but I was pleased with the way it turned out.

Elwood Engle (SP?) who designed the 1961 T-Bird had been hired by Chrysler to pen the Turbine Car lines------thus the similarity between the two cars. Dominik, you really hit this one out of the park! Despite the lack of engine and chassis details, yours is an absolute stunner! I've never seen the car without its vinyl roof, and I kind of like it better without it!

Chrysler Turbine Car from the movie "The Lively Set"
MrObsessive replied to Dominik's topic in Model Cars
Very cool and clean work Dominik! I saw the movie in bits and pieces years ago, so your representation of the car is dead accurate. Yeah, those bumper insets are a pain to paint as the one I did wasn't easy!- 17 replies

Best kit to build 1964 GTO?
MrObsessive replied to allegheny's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
You can't see it from the pics, but the windows are severely warped. Even more so since that pic was taken. I had used the wrong kind of acetate when I did the glass--------now over time they've warped so badly that I can't stand it. I'd need to totally take it apart, and replace the glass. The paint job (to me) could stand to be better as well, but I'm my own worst critic when it comes to things like this. -
Best kit to build 1964 GTO?
MrObsessive replied to allegheny's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Personally, I preferred the Monogram one over the others............it just seemed more "right" to me. Here's my stillborn '64 convertible that I never finished..........the acetate windows have now warped among other things. I may take it totally apart sometime and redo it. Don't look for that anytime soon though............... -
eBay question
MrObsessive replied to MrObsessive's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The interesting thing about this auction is that I've never gotten so many questions in an auction before about this particular model! It was crazy! I've had questions from folks as far away as Thailand, and even had a fellow from Russia that almost won it, but was beaten by a dollar from the guy in Canada at the last second. I even made a quick video of the model so that there were no questions about some of the problems the model had................. Please excuse the scratchy/stuffy nosed voice as I was just getting over the flu when I did this. -
Beautiful job Jim! GM's '66 midsizers were some of the best lookin' cars on the road back then! No mistaking them for something else unlike today!

eBay question
MrObsessive replied to MrObsessive's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Yeah! I was gonna use Gregg's site, but I wanted to get the most that I could out of it since I knew it would go for a good amount. The model in question you're wondering? It was Danbury Mint's 1/12 scale 1964½ Mustang Convertible. The model had some issues, but I'm satisfied what I got out of it. For lesser models in the future, I'll definitely be looking at eModelcars! -
I've been Hacked
MrObsessive replied to Nick Winter's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
One of the things I've learned over the years in this computer world, is to create a password of a word that's NOT in the dictionary. Along with some numbers and a symbol or two, your password can be practically uncrackable. Now if you're not keeping your antivirus/malware/firewall software up to date, it's only a matter of time before a keylogger, or some other malicious software can get dropped on your OS. Then all the clever passwords in the world will be a moot point. And with the economy the way it is as of late, there are folks literally beating their fists against the headboard, staring at the ceiling at midnight--------conjuring up ways to try to beat folks out of their money. -
eBay question
MrObsessive replied to MrObsessive's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Well, the fly in the ointment is that I won't be here tomorrow to send it out via USPS. I already sent it to UPS to be shipped-------didn't know that UPS charged such fees! I did send him an email letting him know of the situation...............I never did hear back from him. If I get nicked with neutral feedback so be it. I'm not that big a fan of eBay anymore as their fees keep going up and up. I won't be doing much business with them in the future if at all because of that. -
eBay question
MrObsessive replied to MrObsessive's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Hey that worked! I typed in their name, and I'm sure it's correct as the address matches as well! Now I can send it off, and I can leave on time tomorrow! Thanks Bruno!! -
Ok, I got an interesting situation here..........I need to ship a package to someone in Canada. I wanted to send the package via UPS today, since the postal service is shut down today due to it being Columbus Day. The person at UPS tells me that they need a phone number to ship packages internationally. Is there a way to find out the person's phone number on eBay? PayPal didn't give me their number when the invoice came in showing that they had paid. I emailed the buyer, but didn't get a response............if worse comes to worst, I could simply wait until tomorrow and send it via the USPS. I was trying to get it out today though as I'm about to head of town for the next 10 days or so. BTW, I don't remember the USPS requiring phone #'s when shipping out of the country. It's been awhile since I sent something out of the USA, but I've not had to do this the last time. Has this changed as well? Thanks in advance folks for any tips you could give me.

Who else likes watching cartoons?
MrObsessive replied to Ben's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
STARBLAZERS! I've loved that anime ever since it debuted way back in '79! I even have the first and second season on VHS/DVD and IMO, it's one of the best Sci-Fi Japanese anime that's been done! Now of the classic Japanese anime, you can't go wrong with Speed Racer, Marine Boy, Gigantor, Prince Planet, and of course Astro Boy! -
Happy Birthday MrObsessive!
MrObsessive replied to jeffs396's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Thanks Fellas! Sure, some rare plastic would be nice, but I wouldn't mind having one or all of these now much wanted (and rare) 50 year old cars................. 25 years ago, I couldn't IMAGINE being 50 years old.............now it's here! Time is certainly fleeting is it not?? -

MrObsessive replied to mr cheap's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
A Saturday in the fall of 1978 when I finally had that day off at the job I was working at the time............what does it do? RAIN!! So I drove to the local mall, and decided to look around and stumble across a Hobby Shop (Allied Hobbies). I see a model kit (Monogram) of one of my favorite cars (a '57 Corvette)........I buy the kit and I was forever hooked! -
