  1. Here's another story about the fabled Pontiac Catalina "Bubbletop". There were actually NO bubbletops produced by Pontiac for '62. That roofline was reserved for the B-Body Chevy Bel Air hardtops as GM wanted to move the rest of the GM lineup in a different direction. Check this story to see................
  2. To solve this issue, you guys can check here and here about the Pontiac "bubbletops" for 1962.............
  3. You can try AMT's '56, although looking at the chassis it's a little on the big side. Or it could be that the '57 kit is not exactly 1/25. I'd love to see a new tool '57 T-Bird, but I doubt that's going to happen.
  4. Maybe you should change your handle to MrObsessive #2! Amazing work!! I take it you have a shop manual of this particular car? The small details you're including are quite impressive!
  5. I like to sometimes focus on cars that were just getting my interest when I first realized what a car was. That would mean cars out of the early to mid '50'/early '60's. Growing up as a kid through the later '60's there was quite a variety of American iron on the road. You still had the befinned and chromed land yachts of the '50's---------then there were your basic station wagons and grocery getters, up to the raucous muscle cars that I occasionally saw. You also had your oddball foreign car that motored by, which I would have no idea what it was until years later! Some of today's cars strike my fancy as well.........while I'm not a tuner type of guy, I can appreciate the Hondas, Mitsus, Toyotas, and Nissans of the world. I'm not much of an SUV fan-----although I can think of a few that if there were kits, I wouldn't mind building.
  6. Here's a screen shot of the movie.............judging by the hood on that 'Vette, I'm sure it's a '58. ..........And yeah, the movie was pretty cheasy, but the cars were great!
  7. Yup! This is the one I got..............now if I could get hold of a couple more of 'em, that would be nice! Not too hard to turn that into a 2 door sedan roof.
  8. Chuck, I'm on Modelhaus's website as I type this-----and the only roof sections I see listed are the GM 1959-60 "Flat-tops". I do have a 4 door six window roof section (from a Johan '59 Cadillac) that was given to me by Ron Hamilton. I don't remember where he got it from, and I'd hate to modify it into a 2-door sedan as I have a future project in mind for it.
  9. OK thanks Risto! I believe I have his email addy somewhere-------if not, I can contact him through Fotki.
  10. WOW!! This has got to be one of, if not the nicest total scratchbuilding job I've seen! Keep up the FANTASTIC work!!
  11. Not a big fan of those type of wheels on '50's cars.............but I LIKE this! Excellent foiling job on what is not the easiest car to BMF! I really wish someone cast just the roof section alone..........lots of ideas for that one!
  12. LOVE this conversion!! Now, I wanna see how you do that RHD dashboard you guys need down there!
  13. OK, I like to consider myself pretty computer savvy. However, since last evening, I've had trouble getting the "View New Content" button to show just that--------show new content. Each time I click on it, I get a "Sorry, no new content found". Anyone else having this trouble? Is there a glitch with the board, or is there something I'm missing that's causing the difficulty? BTW, I've clear all cookies, logged out, and signed back in.......but still no dice. Thanks in advance fellas!
  14. I don't mean to be a meany but fellas.........................
  15. I have a '58 Chevy shop manual which shows the complete steering setup for that car. I just copied most of the details and scaled them down to where they looked realistic, without looking clunky or gimmicky. A lot of what you see is brass, plastic, and a whole lot of patience!
  16. I may be missing something, but when I made the working shock absorbers on my models, I simply had the smaller part of the shock telescope into the larger end. No worry about tiny springs or foam to fool with. The springs on the model itself will give plenty of "bounce" so that no extra "springing" is needed. Check out the video (silent) of the working suspension on my '58 Impala.............. About 1:12 or so is when I flex the rear suspension. Sorry about the video quality...........this one was done some years ago on a digicam that didn't have sound capability. I don't remember what size tubing/rod I used............I like to use whatever I have laying around and that looks in scale.
  17. John, that BMF is looking good! Nothing sets apart a '50's model better than a good BMF job!
  18. Happy Birthday Virg! It only gets better after this.............at least that's what they keep telling me!
  19. Hey Cruz! That can be a very nice model if you take your time with it. I built one a long time ago (early '80's?) and I have an unbuilt one now. As Ron mentioned, the tires aren't quite right--------if you can find any AMT 1/16 '57 T-Bird, or 1964½ Mustang I would use the tires and WWW's out of those. They would be a lot more accurate for a '57 'Vette. Another issue I have with the kit is the front bumperettes sit a bit too low when assembled. You'll need to shave the lower front fascia a bit to get them to sit higher, as well as modifying the upper grille opening a bit to get it to look more like the 1:1. One nice thing about the kit is it comes with an option of a hardtop or softtop. You got a real steal there off eBay as you picked that up for only $30!
  20. Well, as you guys know I'm a replica stock kinda guy! Here's one I built a couple years ago............ ALL of these Mercs on this thread look Fantastic! Maybe I'll get the urge to do the chopped one I've got someday...........
  21. Jason, that is an exceptionally NICE Impala! I like the subtle fading effects on the roof. Your photography is excellent! I especially like this shot..................
  22. Y'all have seen this a number of times over the years...........so here it is again...... Hard to believe I built this car back in 2001! In fact, I have every model Impala from '58-'68 (although I don't have a '66), this is the only one I have so far that's built.
  23. This is going to be a neat project! I've always loved these cars as well, and wanted one badly back in '86 when there was a '66 for sale locally. It was black with a red interior with the 289, and the fellow wanted $6000 at the time. I thought the price was a bit steep for what was then a 20 year old car--------I can kick my self now as that car is going for many times that now! I ended up buying a '69 AMX 390 instead of the Tiger and had just as much speedy fun, although I'd LOVE to have a Tiger today!
  24. Looks like the Monogram 1/8 Big T.............just reissued recently.
