  1. No exposed cutoff tabs on chrome parts!! Along with better hidden mold lines on like parts!!
  2. If they can put them on without 'em looking like they were applied by a total drunk!
  3. Now THAT'S funny!! After a rough week so far I needed that!
  4. Nice! Reminds me a lot of this one................... Since I'll be turning 50 next week, I should be doing some type of '61 car! Maybe down the road..........................
  5. Yeah that '59 Lark is a BIG one! I wanted a resin one to build (MCW does one) to go with the '58 Hawk I was building-------when I saw the size of it, I was immediately put off!
  6. Hmmm......for all these years I was saying Tah-MEE-yah. Looks like the emphasis should be on the first syllable and not the second. Speaking of accents, I've been in other parts of the country and folks can tell that I'm from Central PA. We have an accent here??
  7. LOVE that box art! It looks so Fifties! Of course, '59 Ramblers are one of my childhood cars that you just don't ever forget!
  8. Dave, the lawnmower was busted before the flood waters got to it. I had trouble getting it to start a couple years ago, so I just resigned it to the basement. I do have another mower, but I seldom use it as the yard is so small, I just take a weed whacker to it. Everything in the basement that was down there is totally gone now. ServPro did a good job cleaning up, and sanitizing everything. That's a good thought Manuel! The first winter I was here (2006-07), I was having trouble with the furnace. In hindsight, I wonder if there probably was a problem despite the fact that it was "rebuilt". The way the weather patterns have been I'm NOT looking forward to this winter! Already the Farmer's Almanac is saying that this winter will be warmer, but MUCH snowier here in PA.
  9. Sorry, but they did take that away! I can't remember which brand it was, but it was seven years old as I remember buying it this time in 2004. Even when they came to haul everything away, it was still clicking as if it wanted to run, so it was one tough puppy! Well Serv-Pro got things cleaned up finally this past Thursday, and now I have a Sears coming over tomorrow to put in a new hot water heater. Next battle will be over the furnace as FEMA hinted that they want to have the one that was flooded rebuilt. Not if I can help it! It was flooded before seven years ago, and this will be the second time (as far as I know)! I'm going to have to get aggressive and insist on a new one and not a rebuilt unit!
  10. Al, a few thin coats (maybe three or four) should be sufficient for primer coats. However, since this is your first time working with primer painting, I strongly suggest you test your paint out on some cheap plastic spoons. They're styrene just like the plastic kits, and will give you a very good idea of what is compatible and what isn't. Like Chilly mentioned, Testor's "primer" paints are the worst, and I haven't used them since 1985 they gave me so much trouble! Just my 2¢ for someone that's been there.
  11. Nice and squeaky clean! Excellent paint...............That red is blinding!! Yeah, one wonders what Olds could have been had they been allowed to survive and thrive.
  12. Welcome! David did finish the car, and it's right here............... http://www.modelcars...showtopic=47694
  13. I tend to look at the glass. Not too many models have straight distortion free glass, which to me is a dead giveaway whether it's a model or not.
  14. I personally don't know of any resin up-tops that are available------Modelhaus did have them at one time, but as you said they've been discontinued. The '59 might be your better bet with some tweaking and reshaping. Windshield headers were pretty much the same for '59-'64 GM convertibles. The sail panels will vary somewhat between the '59 and '63-'64, but nothing that some careful reshaping can't cure, and you may need to lengthen or shorten the top accordingly.
  15. GM did some clever styling tricks back in those days. Believe it or not, the 1959-64 Chevy's are all basically the same car!. Same cowl and basic windshield header for all of those years. GM simply squared up the lines as the years went on, and completely got rid of the dogleg windshield after '62. As far as the '63's available-------I'm a little partial to the '63 from AMT only because its lines are a little sharper and crisper, which represent the 1:1 better. The Revell one seems a little "soft" in the creases in some areas, but you can't beat the chassis detail! That wins hands down over the AMT any day.
  16. I don't know about Aussie cars, but here in the states, one can drive a right hand drive car as long as there are mirrors on both sides (at least here in PA). His car has both mirrors, so it may be the case as well in Australia regarding left hand drive cars.
  17. Well, I gotta tell ya.............................................. Just had to say it...............
  18. Here are a few more pics of the damage...................... I should have tried to bring up the lawnmower among other things, but as I was leaving, the water was coming up my back yard and I didn't want to risk sticking around for too long. I didn't know if there could have been a flash flood of all a sudden, and then I literally couldn't leave and my car is stuck being flooded! I measured the water line in the basement, and it looks there was at least five feet of water down there. It took the fire department about four hours to pump everything out-------including the house next door as well. As it stands for the moment, a cleaning/restoration service is to be here by Monday.............they're going to haul away all of the junk, power wash everything, disinfect it all, and add an antimicrobial agent to keep mold from occurring. After that it's a fight to get my furnace replaced (NOT REBUILT), and then getting a new hot water heater in as I have no hot water right now. Hopefully to get all this done before it starts to get cold! I really want to thank everyone for all of your concern............I intend to get through this one way or another!
  19. OK! I have some pics here of the damage that was done to my basement due to the high water that as you know------some folks' homes were completely wiped out! I'm at home (for the moment) as I just got off the phone with the unemployment comp. folks as I haven't been to work due to all the folks that need to come back and forth (on their time) to give estimates, repair times, cleaning, etc. Not hoping for much from the comp. folks as they'll say that my job was still open, which is true, but when you work third shift like I do, it makes it hard to have people come into your home during the day when you should be asleep------and then try to go to work that night. Makes it rather difficult! So here ya go!.................. You can see the the high water mark as it came up my trap door leading into my basement.................. And here's the water that was in the basement up the stairs before the fire department started pumping water.................. Here's what greeted me as I looked down the basement stairs from my kitchen.................. Believe it or not, the refrigerator was still running! I called the electric company immediately to cut the power lest the fire department get electrocuted trying to pump the water out! Stay tuned there's more..........................
  20. Well guys and gals I'm back home------------for the moment! The damage was limited to the basement only thank goodness. I lost the hot water heater, furnace, refrigerator, a lawn mower stored there (don't know why I didn't bring it upstairs! ), and some junk models I had stored in various and sundry boxes. I also lost a bunch of plaques and trophies of shows I've won in years past...........I simply forgot that I had them in the basement in a box as I would have brought those up. None of my good models were damaged by the flood so that was a good thing. Oh well........... I'm waiting for the insurance adjuster to come by hopefully in the next couple days. This really puts a crimp in my work schedule as I've not been to work since last Thursday, Since I work a third shift, it makes it difficult to stay up during the day to get a hold of these people and then try to get to work that night. For now, getting my place back in order is more important. I did let my job know what was going on.......and they didn't have a problem with it. Seems as though there were others at work that suffered worse damage. Lots of cleanup is in order..........better break out the hose and bleach to get rid of the muck on the floors and walls. They're having a common pickup of all the flooded stuff on Saturday..........I'll try to have all the stuff waiting to go before then. I'm going to stay the night here at my place only because they're bringing me a new fridge first thing in the morning. The one that was in the kitchen was already broken, so I was using the one in the basement for the moment. Well of course, that one is toast now since it was flooded, so I have to spring for a new one anyway! When I get more time, I'll be posting pics of the damage. I would now, but the pics were taken on my iPhone, and I don't have the USB cord with me to load them on my PC and Fotki. Speaking of PC's, mine was acting real funky when I hooked everything back up. It's been disconnected since Thursday, so of course it needed a ton of updates. I think I got all the cobwebs out now! Thanks everyone for all of your nice words of encouragement! They say you learn something new everyday, and I gotta tell you, that's absolutely true as I've not experienced something like this before, and hope not to again in the future!
  21. Thanks for all of the well wishes fellas! As of right now I don't know the status of my place as we're still not allowed to even travel down the road into the neighborhood. The street I live in is a main thoroughfare into town (North and South), as there is flooding on either ends of the area (Harrisburg, Highspire and Middletown). Interesting enough, the news is focusing on the surrounding areas of where I live and the damage there, but not on my borough itself. I hope that means the damage was very minor, but I won't know until I see first hand when I get back to the house. They're comparing the amount of water we received to Hurricane Ivan in 2004. I remember that one as the flood waters didn't creep in until a few days after the storm was gone. I bought my place in 2006, and I noticed that my sump pump has a date marked on it of 2005. I was told by a furnace mechanic that he rebuilt the furnace in my place after the flooding from Ivan, and that the sump pump wasn't there then. Just the same, I hope the sump pump was able to take the water out of the basement for the most part------provided that they hadn't shut off the electric. That's the big unknown. I do know the borough still has water service available. I'll keep you guys updated when I can.............
  22. Well, if you don't hear from me as often lately, it's due to my home possibly being a total loss due to the flooding that's devastated the Central PA area. My particular area was told to evacuate before 6PM last evening, so I loaded up the Saturn with as much stuff as I could, including two howling cats, and currently I'm staying with friends about 50 miles south from where I live. They have no flooding issues here, although they have had a tremendous amount of rain (around 8" I believe). The bad part is I had to leave all of the models behind, including my superdetailed stuff. At least those are on the second and third floor of the house, so I don't think they're going to be affected by any flood waters. I moved my desktop computer to the second floor, as well as the TV, printer, and other electronic gadgets out of harm's way in case the first floor is totally inundated as is probably likely. My basement is going to be ruined as it will be totally underwater, so there goes the furnace, hot water heater, refrigerator, etc. Going to the Super September Showdown is a bust this year, because where I'm located now-----it would be a prohibitively long drive, just for me to show up for a spell, and then leave. Not to mention with what's going on now, I'm not in the greatest mood (or position) to deal with buying models or parts. As I type this, the waters are still rising, and the river itself (Susquehanna) won't be cresting until sometime late tonight or Saturday morning. I've been off work since Wednesday when word came through that I may have to leave the area, and when I'll be going back is anyone's guess. My job itself hasn't been affected, but in the coming days that may change as the water is still coming. So If you guys and gals would keep me in your thoughts, I'd appreciate it. I've never been through something quite like this before. I'll try to keep you posted as to what's up in the coming days, and if/when I get back to my house, I'll see if I can take pics of the damage. For those of you interested in seeing pics of how this area as been totally whacked by the remnants of Tropical Storm Lee, check out the link here.
  23. Not sure I can make it this year or not. As I type this, I'm looking at torrential and consistent rain, that's had no letup for the past day or so. The river is forecast in this area to crest at 26' early Saturday morning-------that's 3' above major flooding levels! My house is in a flood plain, so I've been paying very close attention to the weather and the news. I've already had to put the refrigerator in my basement on blocks as the water is coming in the trap door entrance. Thank goodness I have a sump pump. If there's no flooding (or evacuations) in my area over the weekend, I may stop over if only to stay for an hour or so. I can't get time off for that night as we're at the end of the fiscal year on my job, and I'm out of personal/vacation time, otherwise I'd stay for the whole show.
  24. What a neat little car! That looks terrific!
  25. Beautiful car Tom! I'm not big on the wheels for that vintage, but still gorgeous just the same!
