No problem Cruz! The first time I got paint from them, I got what's known as a touch up bottle. This was unthinned out of the bottle so I thinned it "by eye" as they say-----basically to the consistency of milk. I usually thin it down with acetone, as that I found to cut through much better than plain lacquer thinner. I'll wait roughly 3-5 minutes between coats, with the first few coats just dusted on. This'll minimize "fisheyes" if you give the paint a chance to "get used" to the primer it's laying on. Now this last time I ordered from Paintscratch, I got a whole can (12.5 oz.) which BTW, starts at $24.95. I figured in case I mess up again, at least I got plenty to use! I figure too that you can do other cars in this color as I still have a bit left to do maybe two or three more cars yet. When I decant it, I spray it into a snow cone cup..........cut the tip off at the bottom and spray into it. I found it's best to tape the cup to the airbrush jar as there's quite a bit of propellant to blow it off! In fact, that may be the culprit to the Tamiya X-22 clear not adhering...........when I sprayed the paint into the jar, I had to wait at least a ½ hour to let all the propellant gas out! It foamed up like a good Budweiser poured into a glass! There was no propellant of course with the touch up bottles. HTH!

Dave, that's a clever idea for hinging that type of hood! Pay no attention to naysayers..........he makes his first post only to criticize? No intro, no "this is what I build"..........nothing. Those of us that build like this with working stuff............I think we know what we're doing by now!

I gotta tell ya.........not since the GTO (Which I never finished) have I had so much trouble with a model! What you're about to see is round 2 of a paint job which I had to redo. The first paint job wasn't bad, but I could still see the body work where the roof was sectioned and that to me was unacceptable. Especially after the clear coat was put on was this magnified to my view. To add insult to injury, I was about out of paint------so another order to Paintscratch.com had to be made. I originally ordered the Regency Purple, but after second thought after a couple days, I decided I better get the Snowshoe White also. I was able to get that locally, in fact I had called the local place originally about the purple, but they couldn't get the Regency Purple as they didn't have anything in their database that matched that color. So here's what's up so far..................... I got the whole passenger side BMF'd now save for the vent window........... Another issue........... When I tried to clearcoat the body using Tamiya X-22 acrylic clear, the new batch of paint I got from Paintscratch.com DID NOT like it! The paint beaded up like rain on a waxed car! After a couple attempts even after I had rubbed the paint out with clean polishing cloths, I gave up and rubbed the paint out and waxed it with rubbing compound. It's not super glass shiny like an exotic, but very smooth and glossy for a car of the '50's. Here's the rubbing compound I got from Paintscratch back when I did the '61 Cadillac a couple years ago. I gotta admit it's good stuff although it's strictly for the tougher automotive paint. I wouldn't use it on the softer Tamiya synthetic lacquers. Okay.........time for a bit of another rant------what in the heck has happened to Bare Metal Foil company?? I have a sheet that I know is not more than six months old.............it has all sorts of fissures and cracks and I've babied that sheet in it's envelope like gold! When I got it, it was perfect. No cracks, no fissures, perfect! Well I went to our LHS and of course they only had the Matte Aluminum, and the "Super Chrome" stuff. (I refuse to use that) So the only alternative was Detail Master's foil which he had a sheet, so I sprang for the $4.99 and bought it. Here's a pic of what it looks like on the driver's side drip rail...................... This layed down very well.....the only drawback is you have to make yourself two paper "handles" as it will curl up easy otherwise, when you take it off its backing. So I think I've got something new to use here on out..............I will NOT pay $8.99 for a sheet of BMF and can't get a least 2/3 cars out of it! I'll keep an eye on Detail Masters sheet for cracks and stuff down the road. I do remember using this a long time ago and the sheet I had for quite a while. I just didn't like the not so user friendly way of keeping it from curling. But...........in this day and age of everything costing too much I'm gonna go with what gives me the best bang for the buck! Thanks for lookin' and I've still got a ways to go..............hang in there!

Thanks for the pics Cruz!............and thanks for taking an above roof shot of my Ford. Just to fill folks in.....that was the BIIIIG hangup with getting anymore done! I had to strip it and paint it again because the first paint job just didn't suit me as I could still see the sectioning I did to make that roof. This time I used Plastikote primer (Thanks Jonathan! {aka Dub}), had to reorder more paint from Paintscratch which took a couple weeks, then repaint everything all over again. The paint for some reason this time didn't like the Tamiya X-22 acrylic clear, so I took a chance and rubbed out and polished the metallic purple, and used their rubbing compound I got months ago from them. The results turned out great and now I can get the rest of the BMF on and other things!

Chrysler Van Problems-Can ANY ONE HELP ?
MrObsessive replied to Eshaver's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Ed, you may want Chrysler to check out the starter switch on the car. I had a similar problem with my Saturn not long after I bought it where the car would start but it would run for about 5 seconds then shut off for no reason. I'd try and start it again, but it would do nothing, yet I had lights, radio, horn, etc. After about 15 min. or so, the car would start like nothing was wrong with it and the problem would not return for about 3 weeks or so. After the 3rd time it did this I checked online to see if anyone else was having the same problem with '04-'07 Saturns. Turned out there were a LOT of folks having the same problem--------it turned out to be the starter switch was manufactured with too heavy an oil. When it got cold out (This was November) the starter switch was not making full contact which would then drop an error code on the BCM. (Body Control Module). The dealer replaced the switch, but I also had to remind them to reprogram the BCM so that it would recognize the new hardware (Like your PC) and not act up down the road. I also found out that GM sent out a TCB (Technical Service Bullletin) on the problem so they new not to replace the switch with "old stock". I've had no problem since. Interestingly, GM refuses to recall them because they say it's not a safety issue. I say the heck it's not! It's 5° outside and your car won't start and your in the middle of nowhere...................that's not a safety hazard?? I suspect it's because a new BCM is something like $600 as opposed to $90 for a starter switch and time to reprogram the BCM-------that's the real issue. Anyway, it's just a thought as it sounds similar to the problem I had but my car has nowhere near the miles that yours does. Edit: I want to add that the BCM controlled the anti-theft system in the car, so when it got an error code from the starter switch--------I guess the BCM thought the car was being stolen, so it shut down the electrical connection from the switch to the starter. After 15 min, it resets itself but you have to try starting it right at the 15 min. mark. Cars, cars, cars, you gotta have 'em but they can drive you up a street!........and that's no pun! -
Hey I LIKE that Ron!! Now why didn't Ford do that to the 1:1 with that roof?

How old are you??
MrObsessive replied to KT EASTMAN's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Ha! Wait 'til your pushin' 50 like a bunch of us here Rob! -
That's looks good Bud! For those of you that don't smoke, ...........you can also check out your Michael's or other craft stores, and look for something called "Cake Decorating Foil". It comes in aluminum and gold, and you could either use super glue as Bud did, or pick up some contact cement and use that (sparingly). I have a roll of the gold as I someday want to fix that woefully inaccurate side trim on the RC2 '58 Belvedere, and turn it into a Fury.

Whoa!! That is sinister looking! I Like It!! Ford could've taken some pointers from you Mark as that front end is extra aggressive!
-
Bob, that's beautiful!! You gotta show us more though...................we wanna see more!

Another one new to the forum!
MrObsessive replied to Hawk312's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
If this doesn't make for a good "Real or Model" candidate, I don't know what will!! That car looks so real........it can certainly fool novices! Welcome aboard.......with builds like those, you'll certainly fit in! -
Porsche Lovers, cool re-releases on the way!
MrObsessive replied to gregbbear's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I've got the 1/12 Jagermeister Porsche kit too.............got mine off the 'Bay for around $75 or so a few years back. In fact it already came with another engine that was built, so I could use that one to display next to the car if and when I ever build it! I sure wish I could afford that $500 Scale Motorsports detail set! -
Thanks for the comparos Chris............It's been so long since I've looked at that kit, I forgot the numerous inaccuracies of it. Hopefully Saturday at our club meeting, they'll be there for sale as I want one!

Hmmm.........George I highlighted and copied the web addy he gave, opened up a new window, pasted the addy and I went right to it. I saw nothing about eBay, 'cept a PayPal link. It would be nice like Steve mentioned if the site was updated to reflect what's new though. Click here George...........this should take you to the same page I had earlier.

Like Izzy, I have the same dilemma--------trying to choose between several. So I picked this one................. The Jag D-Type when it's all polished and prettied up can't be beat for showing reflections off that curvy body! Pay no attention to the partially open hood!............Yes it does close the whole way!
-
Hey! This is a neat project you got going! I'm not much of a tuner fan, but I like it! Have you picked out a color? I see this in a electric/candy blue for some reason.
-
Steve, this is such a great build...............outstanding detail!! You've added something I didn't do to my Daytona Hemi...............Armature wiring in the alternator! I like the subtle touches such as the window sticker in the window............did you scan a pic of one or does someone do these as a decal?

kustoms in da house
MrObsessive replied to kustoms's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Hi Bud............You made it! Stick around and stay tuned...........Lotsa interesting stuff to see here! -
Welcome aboard Robbo! It's great to see another insane modeler that does working features! Your models look great.........would you happen to have any short video clips with the lights and other electronics working? My models don't quite come to life quite like that.................but I keep getting bugged about power windows though!

What's next for the automobile?
MrObsessive replied to Jairus's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Yup! That's the unmistakable sound of a rotary!! Sounds like a few thousand angry bees at full song.........which is a neat thing! Another trademark of rotaries (to my hearing) is when the driver is shifting gears------speed shifting or not---- the engine doesn't have that RPM drop sound that a piston engine has. It's subtle, but I notice it! -
Beautiful Ferrari Cruz!! Those outside pics are excellent!.............I'd just be a little worried about the model sitting high on the ledge like that! Cruz, I want to see the car Saturday too............the yellow looks top notch as it looks close to Corvette yellow (new) sans the pearl.

Yikes!! I got a real deal as I bought my Pocher Mercedes 500 K for just over $400 back in '04. Mine was sealed inside with all the little tiny parts still sealed in their individual bags. I bought mine with the intention to build it, but I haven't the ambition as of yet. I see there's one on eBay right now for over $600 that still has 4 hours to go!

Holy Hell This is COOL!!!!!
MrObsessive replied to Joe Handley's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Harry, it's got a movable sunshade and visors.......I wondered about that too when I first saw it......... The glass is said to be heavily tinted too (Also much thicker gauge than standard) so it's not easily chipped or shattered.
