  1. Great work so far Gray! I'd leave the engine pretty much as it is too.........that kit is so detailed, (I have the Coupe and the Conv. kits) that it'll look great with just the plug wires. I ditto what Ismael said, I'd move the plug wires just a weeeeeee bit closer to the valve covers.
  2. I'll be there Friday...........but I ain't wearin' no pink shirt! Talk about being a walking billboard!
  3. Wow! Very nice and entertaining build! I might have handled your mirrors a bit differently..............I like to press fit mine on .020 brass rod (drill a hole in an inconspicuous area) then paint them along with the body. If you have some alligator clips, these come in handy for holding these while painting. I'm always afraid of not getting enough paint in the area where the mirrors are to be attached, so it's better if I can put them on later. Those PE cutters ARE excellent tools.........I love what you did to those brake rotors! The paint looks fabulous! I'm a big believer in the old adage........"If at first you don't succeed"......... Keep us updated!
  4. You mean the Mazda RX-8............Ha! I wish!! Mine's a good 'ol original GM product. The only thing I believe it shares is its inner structure with the Chevy Cobalt/Pontiac G5. Both those cars are steel bodied whereas mine is fiberglass/plastic/aluminum bodied. I agree with you about the new "Chevys". My stepmom recently bought an Aveo.............when my Dad had me over his house to see the car, of course I got nosy and wanted to look under the hood. I told my stepmom that she actually had a Daewoo. She said "No, it's a Chevy!" I said "No, look at your engine bay badge.......it's says made by Daewoo Motors, South Korea!" Ironically, my stepmom had just totalled another Daewoo in a bad accident.................only to buy another Daewoo. Nice little car...............but just doesn't say "Chevy" to me.
  5. That's one of the CLEANEST conversions I've yet seen of that car!! Super excellent work!!.................and welcome!
  6. Just a quick note here for newbies on the great benefits of polishing cloths and some elbow grease. Here one can see the drivers side of the hood which has been rubbed out with 3600 thru the 12000 grit polishing cloths. Since I'm loath to wet sand clear coats for fear of rubbing clean through.................the cloths were used dry and "dusted off" every so often. I then followed this up with Meguiar's Car Cleaner Wax and a chamois cloth. The clear I used is my usual Tamiya X-22 acrylic. Forgive the rather dark lighting-----this is on my work table..............it's not my usual "studio lighting" I use for other pics. Now you can see the vast difference with the unrubbed out passenger side. Is this a lot of work? Yes! Is the effort worth it in the long run? Double YES!! I have the rest of the body now clearcoated so if I get time among other things, I may do a mock up of all the body pieces on the car and take a few pics------after everything is rubbed out. Stay tuned!
  7. Yes you're right Jairus............I've been following his auctions for awhile and this is the most I've seen his models fetch. He's done car/trailer combos in the past that got over the $1000 mark. I've talked to Paul in the past and I believe he's a retired guy, so he definitely has the time to spend to build them. I think he's able to put one or two on eBay at least once a week as I follow most of his auctions. What I don't know is if he has help in building or if he's a one man show. Nevertheless, his work is outstanding! No matter how poor I may become, that baby is priceless!
  8. I was watching an auction on eBay of a '70 Chrysler 300 convertible built by robbbbbb57 (Paul Hettick). I just checked my watching page and my eyes nearly popped out of my sockets when I saw what his build went for! I have to say that it looked to be worth every penny as he started with what can be a tough casting from R&R. It got me to thinking hmmmmmm...........? Anyway, click here to see it.
  9. Well some folks hate this car, but I love my Saturn "QuadCoupe" that I bought in March of last year. I've had no trouble with it except for a curious ignition switch problem which was fixed, and it gets 36 MPG on the highway! I was never a big fan of 4 doors due to that ugly and too thick center pillar which blocks my peripheral vision because I'm so tall. The extra suicide doors in the rear are a good compromise of a 4 door without the too short front doors and that vision blocking center pillar right at the side of my face.
  10. Well as y'all know, I'm "obsessed" with working parts on some of my models.......... I like to make parts that work and look as realistic as possible without making them overcomplicated to build. Here's a few pics of my stillborn '64 GTO when it was in its early construction stages....... I guess you could say the "Gotcha Factor" has become a "skill" of mine. Hee Hee
  11. I ditto what Bob said...............It also doesn't do very well over the water based acrylic gloss blacks. You can get a decent sheen, but it's not very durable. Also, it's not a good idea to gloss coat the Alclad after it's put on. It loses all of its impact if that's done.
  12. I love the look of that aluminum Bob! Your pics have the effect of beautifully airbrushed paintings!
  13. 'Tis true Izzy............I remember at the MAMA meeting months ago Harold telling me he was working on one. I told him I'd be interested in just the body alone to do the street SR-2.
  14. Nope.........he was banned. Check out the original thread between Jairus and Zeb here. You'll have to scroll down a bit to see what transpired. He may have "left" but from what I read, there's no comin' back. I don't mind the crazy writing style every once in a blue moon.........but EVERY SINGLE TIME got to be too much! Edit: Not talking about you Bill.............but the way he would "write" or "speak" as if he had a first grade education (he has much more) got to the point I would not read his posts...............just zip right by them.
  15. Time again for another update! Sorry for the long lag between updates.........there's been a lot going on in my world lately......more on that later. One of the biggest hangups I've had so far is getting the color of the carpet just so. First I had flocked the floor with white flocking.............then painted it, but it looked like an Irish Setter when it was done! Then I tried to paint it using some other color flocking (gray) but that looked even worse! The last resort was to spray the floor with Scale Motorsport Faux Fabrix to give it some texture. Once this was dry I mixed up some Tamiya Hull Red, Flat Red and Orange............Then I mixed in some Tamiya Flat Base. This was then airbrushed on in light coats 'til I got the right shading I wanted. The results are as good as it gets.............It would be neat if someone did make bronze colored flocking. Next I moved to the dash.......not a lot of detail here. I did punch out some clear lenses for the gauges with a heavy duty hole puncher. The color is pretty much the same as the exterior of the car. I just held the airbrush back a bit to give the surface more of a vinyl look. The bottom half of the dash was painted with Alclad Aluminum. I also added a turn signal lever to the steering column. Looks like I need to touch up the edges just a smidge.............. Here's the mostly completed interior.........I have to add a few small details such as the shift lever knob and emergency brake handle to the console. Also the trunk needs the dual batteries installed yet. I'll dress 'em up a bit with some battery cables and clamps. The front seats were also kinda fussy...............I modified the hinges slightly so the seats swing forward without coming off the seat bottoms. The rear shelf area was gloss coated as the 1:1 looks to be done this way too. I need to now focus on the door panels.......since they were cut away from the door jambs to make the doors more realistic, I have to reconstruct some of which was broken when this was done. Okay.............on a personal note...............besides being moved around different shifts to train people at work (that wreaks havoc on building) my Mom the other day suffered a mild heart attack. So if you don't hear from me in regards to this update in a while...........that's what's been going on. As I type this my Mom is going in for a heart catheterization so when she gets discharged (barring any unforeseen problems), she'll need things done around the house that she won't be able to do for awhile. So between my home and her home (she lives about 6 miles from me) I'm gonna be pretty busy. My sister who lives in North Carolina (and works out of her home) may come to visit for a couple weeks to help out. Hopefully, I can get this done by this time next month, but with what's been goin' on lately, that may not come to be. Thanks for lookin' and stay tuned!
  16. Beautiful paint job Jeff! I remember when that was a new car and the sheer craziness that surrounded trying to buy one. People were trying to get one in the worst way...............I've heard stories of long time friendships ended because of this car!
  17. Well it's a moot point now Jaffa as he was given the boot the other day. So there will be no more posts from him. If I were you I'd be eating the cake anyway!
  18. Thanks for the pics Lyle! I had a lot to do around the house today with the warm weather and all. Not to mention I'll be heading to GSL in a couple weeks so I gotta conserve the pennies! Looks like it was a good turnout! If I'm not too broke from GSL, hopefully I'll see you guys on the 12th next month for the NNL.
  19. Steve, is there a possiblity that they'll do a regular Durango as Billy mentioned? Now THAT I would buy! I would like to see Lindberg do some modern day cars as well as the muscle car subjects are drying up.
  20. Thanks for the review Olle! I have the kit somewhere in my stash, but it's been a long time since I looked at it. One of the things I do remember about the kit and it drives me bonkers, is the waaaaaaayy too thick rear glass. It's so thick that when looked through at a certain angle it has those lines on the edges like you'd see in someones eyeglasses! That's the only thing stopping me from building it.........I have some Squadron "Thermaform" which I may try to use to make new rear glass. Otherwise, I'll have to vacuform it somehow. As far as the tub not fitting up in the body far enough, that could be once again due to the too thick glass. I haven't attempted to dry fit my kit, but your review so impressed me that my curiosity is up and I'll dig the kit out and take a closer look. Another faux pas I remember albeit minor, is the shape of the trailing edge of the fins. On the 1:1, the top of the tailfins over the tailights should have a bent over kink on them, where as on the kit the fins are almost straight from a side profile. No biggie as it's not that noticeable (except to us "Obsessive" types ) and shouldn't be hard at all to fix. Thanks again for the heads up!
  21. Echoing what Jairus said..........The buildup looks nice for a test shot, but it's just not my cup of tea. Maybe a lot of guys here don't care for that type of vehicle, so to be polite we just don't say anything? :? The same goes for when someone puts up a pic of a completed build............instead of commenting on every pic that gets put up, it'll be something I can relate to ie: Factory stock, '50's-'60's road racers, and the occasional exotic. And even then I may not comment. This is not to put down anyones work by no means.................it's just like anything else, some cars and trucks just don't appeal to me.
  22. Excellent work Randy! Did the kit have any foibles we should know about? I'm gonna start on mine in about a couple weeks when I send the chrome out for the Turbine Car. Oh! Coax cable shielding works great for guitar string in that scale!
  23. I'm afraid to ask.......but how much was it?? :?:
