Yep, Jeff, and I was sweating bullets thinking neither would be done! I was having issues either with the weather, since I have to paint outside, or the paints jobs themselves! Anyway, I have made some great progress and these will be finished by tomorrow! I still have to finish minor details like the landing gear and add the props, but I have the paint and decals finished. Here are how they stand now, and just in case anyone sees the decal carrier on the Spitfire, these decals were from a kit that was about 20 years old! The Spitfire: The P-51 Mustang: If you couldn't tell, Dale Earnhardt was (and still is) my favorite NASCAR driver. These are a "what if" if he was a race pilot instead. I'm hoping that the chance of thunderstorms the weatherman is calling for in my area tomorrow at least hold off until I get my outdoor pics taken!

Don, I think what Brett was implying was that most modelers tend to prefer Tamiya's acrylics over good old Testor's enamels nowadays, or at least that's the way I'm understanding his comment, anyways. I prefer Tamiya's paints over Testor's Model Master paints myself, but there are two main problems with Tamiya's paints some don't relize. First, Tamiya doesn't carry colors like Chevy engine red or Ford engine blue or some of those other special colors Testor's has in the Model Master line. Second, not everyone has access to them unless you buy online, which I don't really care to do. Not every hobby shop carries the Tamiya paints, as is the case in my area. Of the three hobby shops in the area, two of them do not carry Tamiya paints, one refuses to even think of carrying them. The one that does carry them is not the greatest at getting them in often, so I stock up when new paints do come on. Anyway, to answer your question, Don, that is sometimes normal for Testors paints. I just recently painted something Chevy engine orange, and it had to dry overnight before it lost its tackiness. EDIT: I guess I was reading your comment right, Brett! I seen you posted while I was too.

Do you keep the box?
highway replied to Hattley's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Eric, I used to just use a black Sharpie and write on the box, but my neatness OCD kicked in! -
Whos gonna build one like this?

Now I'm going to have that stuck in my mind all night!!!!! -

Scott, one will be potable and the other is for the stinky stuff! And speaking of the stinky stuff, we're truckers, what do you expect! I've stirred my fair share! I don't have much use for the scales, either! I just have to make sure I don't go through Frostburg, MD with the Ford, those (insert your favorite four letter [or longer] word here ) put me out of service more than once AND gave me the tickets to go with it! I just never found a good way to get around them! -
Bradley, I sent a PM to Gregg and Harry letting them know just in case they didn't happen to see your post. I've been trying to help them out by letting them know when I see one or ones I'm currently in. I don't know how I missed this one since it's one I'm in, too!

Thanks George, I didn't know that. Even though, anything with "Mint" behind it is a little out of my price range! -
Revell-O-Gram 87 Thunderbird TurboCoupe
highway replied to whale392's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Thanks for the info, Mark, and I completely forgot about the P/S Glidden kit. You are also probably right about the Hayes T-Bird being an all new tool, because I know Revell also based the Licoln LSC Pro Street kit from the Hayes T-Bird. I have both of them, and everything but the bodies (of course ) are identical. -

I didn't notice that, I might just have to mention what I did in my earlier posts! -

By the way, I forgot I'd like to see the 1973 Ford Bronco in something other than R/C, too! -

This is sort of one of those "chicken or the egg" type questions, but did this kit come out before or after the Matt & Debbie Hayes "Pro Street" version of this car? If so, that might explain the "stretched" profile you mentioned appears mostly in the nose. -

I see us 1/24(25) scale truck guys didn't get an opinion! I know Tamiya has made quite a few trucks in their R/C line I'd like to see in a kit form. I'd also would have liked to see more in the 1/25 scale military other than figures, too. I think they have done a couple 1/25 scale tanks from WWII, but I'd like to see a modern M1-A1 or M1-A2 Abrams tank in that scale. I'd love to have one as a load on a lowboy truck! -

Yep, you should have known I'd pop in with the beast with the title for the thread! By the way, why do I need to worry if I'm overweight or not? DOT scales are meant to be driven around, aren't they?!? You added the weight up pretty good, too! You do make one slight mistake, though. The big dog will have a 1,000 gallon liquid capacity. I figure the front 4 tanks are 150 gallons each and the last 4 are 100 gallons each, and only 6 are fuel tanks, for 800 gallons of fuel. The back 2 are for water for the sink and shower in the sleeper! Oh, and I did have my HAZMAT at one time! -

I got it covered, Scott! Ok, so it's not a T800, and this one only has a 345" wheelbase, but it's close enough! By the way, Dennis, my big Ford is about 38 scale feet long, and I'm pulling a 40' trailer, too! And, I know, I have to get back working on it! -
Yeah, it might finally give me an excuse to try to build mine as well!

I'll be praying for both of you, too, brother.

That's quite alright, Charlie. One other thought, how close is Trumpeter's 63 Chevy Nova to the Pontiac Tempest/LeMans?

best tooling of a 33 ford?
highway replied to hellonwheelz3's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I'm trying to remember my Tool Time history, but wasn't that car a roadster? I know the only roadster or convertible I remember seeing was the Monogram/Revell 34 Ford Cabriolet, the top one in the picture. Jimmy Flintsone also made a resin roadster body for either of the two kits in the picture. It was based from the Monogram kit's body, and being mid 80s tooling, it may not be the best but does look nice in my opinion. Here's a pic of the cabrio's body mocked up for my wild creation. AMT also did a nice 34 Ford Street Rod, but it was a coupe, you'd probably have a lot of modification to do. By the way, I think the ZZ Top kit was the only one I ever seen actually marked as a 33 Ford kit. -
I'm in! I was thinking of a pickup for another CBP, anyway! That way instead of a couple of my builds where I have two kits for one project, I can turm the tables and have one kit for two builds!

Charlie, could a Studebaker Avanti qualify?

Of course, if you guys are going to the Pittsburgh show Sunday, are you also going to this one? September 25 (Saturday) Sharon, PA The Shenango Valley Area Scale Modelers present SVASMCON 26 Sharon is not very far from Pittsburgh, only about 50 miles away at the most, and since it's Saturday, you could make a weekend out of it.

You're welcome, and I look forward to seeing you in one! Thanks for the compliment as well, and I hope to be getting back to work on the Ford soon, I've been busy and not done much on it lately.

Codie, the best way to describe a community build is that it is a build of a certain subject matter that members of the forum community can participate in. Usually, a member will come up with a subject, and if you wish to participate, you come up with a kit that qualifies for the subject, and most have a certain timeline in which to build it. There is no winners or losers, because there is nothing to be won, even though sometimes when the build project is finished, a poll topic might be set up for all forum members to vote for what they think might be the best model. It's just a nice way to build something with other members of the forum with similar interests and have fun while doing it. Since I know you like trucks and you live in Australia, say I wanted to start an Aussie truck community build. You see it and want to join with a Revell of Germany Aussie Kenworth kit, you join and build it however you want, just as long as it stays in the Aussie truck theme. The subjects can vary greatly, some are very specific as to subject and some are wide open build anything subjects. An example of a wide open subject is a build I have posted here in the Trucks section, but the actual Community Build is for another site, that is a "race" theme based loosely on the "Cannonball Run" movies. Most others are building a sport touring type car or musclecar, but I was in the dare to be different crowd and entered this: A few of the more specific type builds I'm in here, though, are like the Jairus race plane build, which finishes on the 22nd, and is for racing planes based on WWII fighter aircraft. Another is just for Japanese built cars made before 1990. A few of the other less specific ones is one for demolition derby cars, another is a Bonneville Salt Flats/Pikes Peak race car build, and yet another is the Forgotten kit build, which is for kits that were highly talked about when they were released, but you never really see many ever really built. I hope that helped out and didn't get you more confused!
