Wow, there must be at least one in every family!! My case just so happens to be my brother's ex wife, but it wasn't money that made the issue at my brother's funeral in 1992 after he was killed in an tractor trailer accident. While he was out on the road, his wife was having an affair with what was supposedly his best friend. The whole family, including my brother, knew it was going on, it was sometimes literally my brother would be leaving out the front door and the boyfriend would be coming in the back door, and she didn't even seem to worry about hiding it. The issue came at the funeral the day of the burial, and when it came time for the announcement of the pallbearers, THEY CALLED HIS NAME!!! How low can you go but to have the guy (can't even call him a man) you've been cheating with carrying the body of your late husband!?!? When he was starting to walk past where my mom and I were sitting, I started to ball up my fist because I just wanted to beat the you know what out of him, but my mom noticed my fist and put her hand on my knee and gave me that "you're better than that, don't do it" look. It just seems sometimes family can be your worst enemy!

Well, since the kit being offered is a 350, it is the one ton variant, so it will be a ton of possibilities!!

Need some help on a Kenworth

Thanks for the info Kevin. -
Wow, that was one hungry sinkhole!! 8 cars eaten and probably millions of dollars worth of Corvette history swallowed up! The couple from the list I noticed would be hardest to replace would be the millionth and 1.5 millionth cars and the ones on loan from GM. There can only be one millionth Corvette, and it's at the belly of the sinkhole. Talk about an expensive dinner!!

Did the square headlights come on the cabover at the same time the W900 got them?? If so, it would be a little earlier than 84 as a last model year. My brother drove an 84 W900 and it had the square headlights already. -
It sounds like someone woke up on the wrong side of the workbench this morning!! I guess I must be in a minority here, but while it is nice to at least maybe get an "OK" or "Thanks" as a reply, I take pleasure in just knowing I helped someone out. Of course though, and maybe because I don't make myself sound or come off like a donkey when I'm trying to be helpful, 99.9% of the time I either get a reply or a PM thanking me for the help.

A rough guess would be around the mid 70s to maybe even as late as the early 80s for the model years. As others already said, the longer frame came thanks to the Papa Truck and Hideout Truck transporters for the Super Boss and Bandag Bandit race trucks. I happen to like long frame cabovers, they make a nice custom truck. -
Nope, no bovine scatology here, I would much rather pay a premium price for what appears to be a premium kit than $20-$25 for 70s and 80s reissues, some of which are subpar at best. I see this kit having much potential, maybe even one painted white weathered with some red Georgia clay like something a modern Uncle Jesse would be proud to drive. And as a builder of mostly heavy trucks, large price tags are a norm for me.
-
I wouldn't care if it were $700, I'd still buy several!! It's about time a company, no matter country of origin or price, brings out a modern light duty truck! Now it might even be easier since Meng is giving this an oil burner to convert it into my old 90 7.3 for a replica of my 1:1 dually.

dirt track water truck

Yep, I know Sean, and maybe a nice new modern 53' bullrack can be another to the truck modelers growing wish list that maybe Moebius will listen and give us! -
This Italeri container is not to bad to build, the walls, floor, and roof are all two pieces that have to be glued together to get the final length, but they fit together pretty easy. Of course, the frame and wheels will not be like mine are, the rear axle has a spread between them as it comes in the kit because it is based of a European trailer frame. I wanted mine to be an American frame, so I cut the front axle mounts from the frame and moved them back to look like the chassis frames here. The great thing too is the container is removable, so you can either have it on the chassis or just have the bare chassis on the back to make it look like your KW is heading to the port to pick up another container. Unfortunately, you will probably have to find one on ebay, and it probably cost you near $100 or more. There is one currently there for $77 http://www.ebay.com/itm/Revell-Car-Transporter-07540-1-25-/201023081815?pt=Model_Kit_US&hash=item2ecde8cd57 The kit is from Revell of Germany, and I think in one release it may have also been released in a Testors box.

dirt track water truck

As far as I know, all of New Ray's trucks are 1/32,.................BUUUUUUUUUUUT...............I have found that many of their trailers are horribly out of scale! This pic shows two New Ray Freightliner Classic XLs and shows just how badly scaled the trailers (especially any box shape) are. The dirty maroon in the foreground is pulling one of AMT's old 70s era 1/32 scale Trailmobile reefers and the shiny red one in the back has a bullrack that originally came with a Kenworth W900. Even at this angle, you can see how much taller the New Ray trailer is, and these next couple pics show that trailer next to AMT's 1/25 scale Wilson Livestock Trailer. The New Ray livestock trailer is almost big enough to pass for 1/25 scale! I'm not going to say for sure if the tanks are as out of scale as the box trailers are (the livestock trailer isn't the only one!), but if I happen to see one of the tanks soon next time I'm in a truckstop that has them, I'll be sure to check it out. By the way, some of the lowboys with equipment also appear to be badly scaled, and not just the lowboy, but the equipment too! They too could almost pass for 1/25 scale, just something to keep in the deep memory banks. I've seen some with excavators and I think even a military version with a tank! -
Great camper idea folks!
highway replied to MsDano85gt's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Yep it is a great idea, a friend of mine has been working on one on and off for a couple years now. All he used is simple Evergreen sheet (maybe .030 or .040) and drew some simple plans out and transferred those plans to the sheet styrene, and I'm sure he doesn't have $20 worth of styrene in his! -
Niko, they are. The pickups and light commercial vehicles have their own separate workbench and under glass categories in the truck section and they are separate from the big rig workbench and under glass.
-
I really think that would probably be the best solution right there, Harry. It would give the non NASCAR and drag builders a place for their builds, but still is the way Gregg wants it with separate NASCAR and drag sections. The racing section of the forum could be NASCAR, Drag, and Other Competition.
-
Pickups, maybe, but we big rigs like to own the road, so to speak.
-
HMMMM.....isn't the forum about model cars???? Yes it is, as a frequent visitor of the truck section, or as frequent as a customer or truckstop with free WIFI is for me anyway! There are a few others categories in the truck section that could be divided into big and little, but the divided workbench and under glass sections are good enough. So what if in the "Truck Stop" category someone asks a question on what would be a way to customize their slammed to the ground Toyota and just has one of those general titles like "question", I just grab my coffee cup and move to the next table where they are actually talking big rigs and not something I'd use as a wheel chock!!
-
Yeah, no kidding! I have a rare chance to be online since the little fuel stop I'm stuck at in central PA has free WIFI, but believe me, the ride here in an empty 18 wheeler was not fun! I knew it was time to call it a day and pick up my load tomorrow when the drive tires on the tractor started spinning going up the steeper hills. I HATE SNOW!!! And it doesn't help the models are at home about 150 miles away!
-
Yep, well mine was 66 in a 55, and it was no malarky! I glanced at the speedometer and the GPS when I noticed the nice reflective markings on the cruiser and the speedo was in the 65 range and the GPS said 66!

Yes she did, and she worked on it some more a few weeks ago, and she spent more time picking more colors out of my paint box for it! Of course, she's just brush painting it, but the big thing is she's having fun! I even broke out the big Ford and spent a little quality time with it, finding a jar of chestnut brown flocking powder I didn't even know I had and found it went nicely with the other colors I have in the interior, so the floor of the cab is now carpeted! Anyway, I get the rare chance to spend some internet time thanks to the snow here in central PA, I'm currently in a little fuel stop with free WIFI in Ebensburg, PA shut down until morning to (hopefully) finish getting to Bellwood, PA just north of Altoona. US 22 in this area was not the greatest for an empty trailer today, and there was no way I was making it to the pickup by the time they closed at 3:00PM thanks to the road conditions. It took me 3 hours just to go the 92 miles I did drive today from Leetsdale, PA just outside of Pittsburgh to where I'm sitting now, and a couple of the last few big hills I had to climb were slick and I felt the drives losing traction a few times, so I found the next safe place to stop and called it quits for the day. At least it looks like it may be clearing up just north and west of here, I see a hint of blue in the sky in the distance, and according to the Weather Channel, it is supposed to be clear tomorrow where I'm heading, just freezing cold with lows tonight below 0 and highs only in the single digits tomorrow.

Can I use a 1/25 trailer on a 1/24 truck
highway replied to keone2013's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
As everyone has said, of course! There really is minimal difference between the two, and considering the width of a 1:1 modern trailer is 8'6" (102") and an older trailer like the AMT Wilson Livestock trailer or a shipping container is only 8' or 96" wide, it is really as Rich had said, it's only going to be a few mm difference. In 1:25 scale, a modern 102" wide trailer is (or should be ) 4.08" wide and 1:24 would be 4.25" wide. The older 96" wide trailer would be 3.84" wide in 1:25 and 4" in 1:24 scale. The only big difference is lengths, you lose a few feet between the scales. My on the back burner because life got in the way WIP of my Ford LTL 9000 custom and AMT livestock trailer is a good example of this. The 1:24 tractor's frame is scaled to 38' long, but is exactly as long as the 1:25 scale 40' trailer it pulls! A few years back, this had also came up and I used the Ford, which is an Italeri kit, and compared the width of the livestock trailer and Italeri's Container trailer, and these pics just go to show, widthwise the difference in scale is not that noticeable. -
Hey everyone, I get a little chance to actually check in from a customer that I could get an internet connection from here in Cambridge, OH first off hope everyone had a nice Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year holiday season. I got to be home for all with the family, and really enjoyed being able to be with the better half and her daughter on Christmas morning, and I'm looking forward to many more! The better half even made sure I had new pics of her and "our" little one to put in the truck so I remember what I'm out here fighting the nasty winter weather for, which is starting to get nasty here in OH. The deep freeze in on it's way, and the wind is howling and rocking the truck here in the parking lot, and it looks like the rain is changing over to snow now as I type this. That's why I'm here in the truck right now and not snuggled in my bed at home, I thought it best to beat the weather and pick the loaded trailer back up tonight that I left here at the customer Saturday on the way home instead of fighting the ice and snow in the morning to get here. I'm just hoping I can get the internet turned on at the house soon so I can at least check in when I'm home on the weekends. My truck is only a 68 MPH truck, those little old ladies are beating me! My truck decided it needed a Thanksgiving break, it started dropping oil pressure and then decided after that was fixed (overdue PM ) it didn't want to start! It dropped the starter in our yard, so it got a new starter along with everything else in the past couple months. While the truck was on vacation and I was using one like it and unhappy my dispatcher ended up sending me out the Sunday after Thanksgiving instead of getting the full weekend off like he promised I would have just the week before, I was even more unhappy with him after I got something I haven't had since very early on in my driving career, A SPEEDING TICKET! I was thinking about how I wasn't happy to have the weekend cut short and not being in my regular truck and was going down a grade on US 23 in Delaware, OH and realized that other than being less powerful than my regular truck (regardless of the fact it is more or less the same truck as my regular ride), the spare also has less powerful Jake Brakes! I started slowing down when I noticed I was going 66 MPH, but unfortunately it wasn't before the Ohio State Trooper at the bottom of the hill had also noticed I was over the 55 MPH speed limit. He checked out my paperwork and everything was in proper order, and then gave me the ticket. Oh well, that's life! I did finally get the "daddy-daughter" time I wanted, and we had a ball! I must say, it's a VERY colorful Mack firetruck! I think the little one was using almost half of my paint box on it! My "brother" was also over the same night and was working on his Pete 359 I got for him when I got her the firetruck, and he had me stretch the frame on it, and it's turning out decent too. I even got a few minutes to work on the big Ford, and I found some flocking powder I didn't remember having and flocked the floor in it a chestnut brown that gives a little extra contrast to the other brown shades in the interior. Once I get some internet on at the home 20 again, I'll post some pics. My brother couldn't understand why I'd let "our" little one to use all the different colors on her firetruck, but just like I told him, it's her first model, the point is for her to have fun with it and do it how she wants to do it. I'm still waiting to head that way, but you'll know when I do! .....and neither is a $135 speeding ticket in Delaware, OH!
