Fox Chassis (Ford) community build anyone?
Wagoneer81 replied to whale392's topic in Community Builds
I think I could be coerced into doing a Mustang or, say, an '87 T'bird... Sure, count me in! Set the start date for June, let it run 6-months, once the dust settles, see what we've got! -
Uber kool '62 Chev ref pics...
Wagoneer81 replied to Jon Cole's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
By Golly, I have been looking for these references! Now I have enough to start my '62 Impala ragtop! Now, I don't think Dupli-color has these colors, I might have to custom mix. You'd think with them being factory colors, they'd be easy to find... thanks, Spyder!!! -
The Chief is looking great! I didn't even know that the old style Gladiator front end was even available in scale until I saw your post. You saved me from scratchbuilding one. I went to RMR's website, I'll be ordering a Wagoneer or two this weekend! This is my '81 Wagoneer. It's a daily driver, 360/auto with 133,000 miles. I've always loved the FSJ body style. A good friend of mine has an Ex-Indiana Dept. of Natural Resources '81 Cherokee and his cousin just picked up an '83 so, I'm in good company. Finding your build made my day! I can't wait to see it finished! It's the first non-Honcho Full-Size-Jeep build I've seen in 1/25 and now that I have a body source, it won't be the last!

Ok, I'm blind! I just now found this thread! Lotta great ideas here! Jeepster25, where did you get the Cherokee body and the old style, Gladiator nose? I've been looking for both and would love to get ahold of a couple of each! OK, I just fired off a PM to Rolltide expresing my interest in joining this build. It'll give me an excuse to build a '57 Chevy. I'm pretty sure what your first visual image was... trust me, not that '57 Chevy. I want to build a '57 Chevy Suburban. I'll use a Jimmy Flintstone resin body and an AMT 1957 Chevy Stepside for the donor kit:

Hot Rods = World Peace
Wagoneer81 replied to Darin Bastedo's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Darin, I like the way you think! I thought the same thing Charlie did when I first read the post, he's definitely got something there... most of the war torn areas of the world right now are the poorest and be it for political or religious reasons, the most oppressed. I nominate Charlie and Darin for the Nobel Peace Prize! Darin, what Ford vs. Chevy thing??? I choose to play both ends against the middle there as my daily driver is an AMC built Jeep Wagoneer. I get the best of BOTH worlds!!! Well, all three worlds if you include the Chrysler 360 and 727 transmission... -

ford 9000 project
Wagoneer81 replied to showbuilder's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
That combo is simply AWESOME AND AMAZING!!! I love what you did to the truck and I love exotic flatbed loads. I have an entire list of trailer/load combinations including armor, heavy equipment and railroad engines and cars. It's good to know that 1/25 scale armor is available again! Thanks for sharing this build with us, it is outstanding! -
A Couple of New Masters

Man, I'll tell you, everything is looking goooooood! That ProSleeper, the old crewcab... keep 'em coming! -
For a troublesome kit, it turned out really nice! This is a true indication of a builders abilities and talent (I've given up on problem kits). Lowriders aren't really my cup of tea but this one looks great! Nice and subtle... You did justice to the old girl...

Real or Model #136 FINISHED!
Wagoneer81 replied to Harry P.'s topic in Real or Model? / Auto ID Quiz
I'm gonna have to say model. The photography is second-to-none but something about the subject says 'model' and I cannot quite put my finger on it. -
Excellent, Jairus! Thanks for the info.

Jairus, It's a pleasure to finally make your aquaintance! I am fairly new to this forum but, I'd like to say that I've been a fan of your work for many, many years! You're artwork has inspired me since day one, continues to do so and I thank you for that! Thanks for the heads up on the '30 touring kit. I was comptemplating converting the '32 Phaeton body I have to a '29 but you just took care of that for me! It looks like Revell has reissued the '30 touring and there are several of the original Monograms on eBay. I've got a '29 cowl, so that's covered... I love Flatheads so all I'll have to do is raid my parts bins to assemble the proper engine. I'm pretty sure I can pull the frame out of a Revell '32 5-window or 3-window. Are those '41 Lincoln wheels on the '29 Phaeton? I'm still trying to nail those down...

Need Linberg tanker trailer
Wagoneer81 replied to disabled modeler's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Mark, if you're in no great big whopping hurry, I'm working on a deal here locally where I may just be able to score an unplated Skelly Tanker trailer. Bear with me for a week or so and I'll see what shakes loose. I know what you mean about money being tight. I've been on medical leave since May '09. I might be able to go back to work this May. Thank the Maker for short-term disability policies! We'll talk trade when I know exactly what I have but I'd definitely be interested in one trailer or another... -
Thanks for getting back to me so quickly, Dave! This is the one I drew, got the email today. This'll be fun! I'll start by making a list of parts I need, then I'll scrounge around here for said parts and then go out and find the parts I don't have! I just looked, I thought I had a '29 Phaeton turned out to be a '32, DAGNABIT!!!

Wonderful looking race combo!!! You do really good work! Nice clean build, really nice attention to detail. The C-series is something that isn't given enough attention, until now... I used to drive a 1974 C-900 Fire Engine on a regular basis, it had the 534 gas engine with a 5-speed... plenty of power! I miss that beast!

Two Revell Pete 359's
Wagoneer81 replied to Wagoneer81's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Just want to add a little info here; The paint is Dupli-Color, car-truck-SUV Met. Blue laquer out of a rattlecan over their grey sandable primer. After I applied the decals, I overcoated with Testors "Wet-Shine" One-Shot Laquer. Really, I didn't notice the orange peel until I took the pictures... I know, I'll just turn down my camera resolution next time... -

Two Revell Pete 359's
Wagoneer81 replied to Wagoneer81's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Thanks All! Highway, I used the kit supplies wheel/tire assemblies. The front wheels went together fine, I had a small issue with the rears... The tires were a bit warped but I scraped the plating off of the rim mounting ledges and used thin CA and a lot of patience to get them to seat properly. I think this is a roll of the dice as to whether these kits tires will be warped. The tires on the Revell 359 above, I had no problems with. they went together beautifully. I left the fronts shiny and shot the rears with Testors Dullcoat to make them resemble aluminum wheels... and to hide some CA that got on the tire sidewalls... I make my decals with PrintShop 11 and an Inkjet printer. Flatbed, I've tried a little bit if everything where modeling is concerned. My biggest interests are heavy commercial in 1/24-1/25 scale and steel warships. in 1/350 and larger. I dabble a little in sci-fi as well. -
Two Revell Pete 359's
Wagoneer81 replied to Wagoneer81's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
I'm going to add this here instead of starting another thread. Revell's W900. Box stock with custom company decals: And before anybody points it out... I noticed as I was posting this pic that the door handle got ingnored... I forgot to paint it... I'll remember next time! This kit was such a pleasure to build, I'll be doing more of these, many more... -
Here, I went to the hobbyshop yesterday and took a few pictures. I built this one box stock. The only issue I had with the kit was that the tires were a little warped and with the way the wheel/tire assemblies are designed to go together, I had to use a little thin CA and a lot of patience getting them to go together properly. I did not, however have that problem during construction of the Pete 359 which has the same type of wheel assemblies. With paint and decaling I think I worked on this one about 10 hours. I will be doing many more W900's and 359's and these Revell kits are a WONDERFUL place to start! The wide white decal stripes came with the kit. Revell supplies decals for two paints chemes, this type and the Lightning scheme that you see on the box. I added the Company Herald on the door, the lettering and the Wyoming State flag. When I get it back from the HS, I'll put plates and fuel stickers on it and put it under a trailer. My next one will use the "Centennial" decal set offered by Modeltruckin.com

resin casting question....
Wagoneer81 replied to desertgypsy's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
I can't answer all of your questions, but maybe I can help with a few. With a two part casting resin, deep curing is not an issue as it is a chemical reaction not the "gassing off" of vapors that causes the resin to go from liquid to solid. Several years ago, I cast a large ship hull in resin, it was over 5 inches wide, 4 high and 34 long and cured with no problem, just make sure the resin is thoroughly mixed. My experience with Hydrocal is that it will take any paint you throw at it as long as you use a primer/sealer on it first. As for getting that painted metal automotive shine, I'm not sure because I've never tried. Hope this helps! -
If I say what I'm really thinking, I'll be banned for life... And there really is no emoticon to show what I'm really feeling right now... I'm just thankful that this current "trend" is affecting a small portion of the customizing market. Remember when the "cool thing" was the offset little 13" skateboard wheels and bandaid tires??? "Cool", unfortunately, has just come full circle, is all... Those bow-legged monstrosites were really hard on struts, ball-joints and A-arms because they changed the load geometry on the suspension so drastically. I wonder how long it will be before some of these "Donks" get enough miles on them to start folding under the so-called front suspension. Let that happen a few times and see where it goes. Ok, I've held it in long enough, I have to hit the bathroom, I have lunch that needs losing...

Don't mind me, I'll just be sitting somewhere between Dazed and Confused...I think they're in Ohio...
