This is what I have been working on, a Johan 69 Rambler. The chassis has been modified at the front, where the moulded front rails have been removed, and a scratch built section put in it's place. The centre of the original radiator has been removed and replaced with photo etched mesh. The headers are scratch built with plastic sheet, five core solder, plastic tube and heat shrink tubing. 40 Ford Flat Bed "Old Henry"

Thanks guys. -
Cheers everyone. You can do so much in model form, even things that might look odd, or might not work, however that would be different in 1:1 scale. How many people looked at the Monkeemobile and noticed the dummy blower, or the blower on Mad Max's Interceptor that's activated by a pull switch? Totally wrong but it looks good, and I love thinking outside the box, it's so much fun.

Thank you for the very kind words. This truck fought me me a little, but I won in the end. I have now started my next project, pics on the one soon. -

Well the "Old 'Henry" 40 Ford Flat bed is finally finished. DSCF7763 by doomcrew, on Flickr It fought me a little, but I managed to get it done. There are many machined parts, inc dash clocks, gear lever, gas tank, pulleys, oil filter, brake discs, air filter and the tops and bottoms of the air bags on the suspension. The bags were machined on the lathe and covered in black heat shrink tubing. Once on, they look exactly like rubber and there's no painting. The front suspension is mostly scratch built and the brake calipers were modified from the parts box. The hood and front wings were made as one, and the nose was modified where I took out a wedge section at the front, which sloped the nose down. The front hinges on scratch built hinges. The bed is scratch built with plastic sheet, square section and wood veneer. It hinges up and stays in place with an earth magnet and steel pin. Paint is pearl venom yellow and crystal flip flop red pearl over black. This was then cleared and polished. Flat bed 40 Ford pick-up
doomcrew replied to doomcrew's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
The black with the crystal red pearl are on, with pinstriping, graphics and the first coats of clear. Next will be a rubbing down and then a few more coats added. The dash will be getting the clocks and switches installed and I will get around to making the brake calipers, eventually. I may also finish off the engine and put it in to the chassis. Flat bed 40 Ford pick-up
doomcrew replied to doomcrew's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Managed to some colour on the body, which is Anti-Venom Pearl Yellow over white. The top half will be sprayed Black with Crystal Red pearl. The bed is made, with real wood veneer. Turned the remaining wheel hubs, ignition coil, dash instruments, two of the pulleys and an oil filter. Flat bed 40 Ford pick-up
doomcrew replied to doomcrew's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
More progress has been made on the pick-up. Decided that the colour will be base pearl yellow for the body, with that I could paint the chassis, which had a black base and crystal red pearl over the top. I made one of the wheel hubs along with four brake discs, I can now turn the other front hub, and turn the rear ones, but these will have to be a little deeper. Still have to make the coil overs as well as a few more parts on my lathe, but at least I am going in the right direction. The fuel tank was turned on my lathe in four parts. The doors will close with the aid of earth magnets and steel pins. You can see the magnet fixed to the inside of the body, while the pin is fixed to the inside of the door with just the head exposed from the interior door panel. This what I have been working on, a 40 Ford pick-up, with a flip front and flat bed. Saw a similar model in Scale Auto Contest cars, and got inspired to build my own version. Not sure what the colour will though. 20140312_234545 by doomcrew, on Flickr 20140312_234556 by doomcrew, on Flickr 20140312_234636 by doomcrew, on Flickr 20140312_234657 by doomcrew, on Flickr 20140608_122338 by doomcrew, on Flickr 20140608_122354 by doomcrew, on Flickr 20140608_122414 by doomcrew, on Flickr 20140608_122452 by doomcrew, on Flickr 20140608_122514 by doomcrew, on Flickr Thanks for looking.

Thanks JB. Hey go for it, I don't see it as copying, just inspiration. Look forward to seeing done. Steve

Thanks for the kind words guys, it's good to be back although not fully recovered, and you know how it is when you are sitting around and you have ideas running around in your head. :-) Yes they are, but had to use Monogram Pro-stock wheel backs as the JoHan ones broke. Steve

Haven't been around for a while, due to recovering from a blood clot and frozen shoulder, but managed to complete my latest project, a Monster inspired 32 Ford hot rod. The body is from the Orange Crate, with the chassis, rear axle, grill shell, firwall and floor pan from the latest 32 Ford kits. The wheels are form the Jo-han Pinto FC. The radiator is scratchbuilt with a MAS etched grill insert. The air cleaners, head lights, brakes, dif cover, steering column, pulleys, fuel pump, gear lever and shocks were turned on my lathe. The paint is black with apple green base pearl, cleared and polished. There are more etched parts used for the engine, interior and suspension.

Thanks guys. Yes a battery, it is in the model and the Johan Mustang FC uses the same chassis, so that has a battery as well.

Thanks for looking.

Thanks guys. I changed the quick change rear end with an axle from a pro-sportsman kit, turned a pair of hubs on my lathe to fit the Scale Repros Plus wheels. They fit the monogram slicks so managed to get the wheels within the arches. More progress......... As you can see, it is now done, check out the pics.............

This is one of my current projects, a johan pinto funny car. I have made a few changes and added alloy wheels from scale repros plus. I also turned rear hubd, engine pulleys, clutch can, propshaft, fuel pump and magneto. the paint is ford olympic blue with metalflake blue, graphics are ford purple velvet with decals from various kits. more to come

Thanks for the kind comments everyone. I really wasn't sure about the vinyl roof route, and so determined to fix the paint, but it's good that a bad thing turned in to a good thing. Cheers all. Steve

Been a while since I have been on-line, as I have had issues with mobile phone and internet provider, (same company) and my computer got infected with a virus. Also had issues with the gasser, as my temp mobile (iphone) fell on to the roof and damaged the paint. I tried to repair the chipped paint as it went down to the primer, but had cut my losses, and put on a vinyl roof. But now, the gasser is done. Thanks for looking. steve
