  1. do you know what, I missed this, thanks for pointing that out. it also helped me with mounting the engine. chemiwood aka, renshape, is a resin type material thats generally used for prototyping, university and college projects and film and tv effects. it can be turned, milled, drilled, sanded and carved. it does need to be coated with either button polish or sanding sealer, to stop the grain from showing through the paint. steve
  2. well after a two week break, (helping a friend build a model for a TV ad) i am back on this. started doing the dash, out of chemiwood. got the inner wheel wells done, well almost, and used body filler to secure a good fit between the interior and exterior door panels. the same was done for the inner sills and door jams. i placed packing tape on one part, and applied filler to the other, mated them together then put aside to set. once set, pealed the tape away, which released the filled part. thanks for looking in. steve By metalhead6464 at 2012-05-05 thanks for looking in. steve
  3. got the chassis almost done, just the engine mounts to do, but here I have the front and rear suspension pinned in, just to check that everything is in line and level. By metalhead6464 at 2012-04-13 steve
  4. ok, I have reworked the rear end as I didn't like the spring setup. I extended the chassis to accommodate the the four bar link brackets. This area will also house the air cylinders and pumps, 1 each side. Also continued on the front end and added a little more to the body. steve
  5. Thanks guys. It makes a change to do something a bit different. Steve
  6. This thing is awesome, well done Rom. If you are very happy with the outcome, then thats all that matters. A big thumbs up mate. This has inspired me to build a 1/16 Camaro from Flashpoints. Steve
  7. and i can see cheech and chong in their lowrider along with cage and co getting in the zone from Gone................ made some more progress. narrowed the rear axle and mocked up the air bags. more work done on the leaf springs and scratchbuilt the petrol tank, inc the mounts, pipe and fittings. a little more on the front end and mocked up the rear lights. 8. ok, this is something I have been working in between my car projects, the alpha centauri UFO's. The scene depicts two aliens surveying earth, when one gets too close to a car and scratches the back of it. To show that not all alien life is intelligent the alien gets his ridiculously big implement to scratch a note into the cars paint. i came up with some hyroglyphs for the alien language, and scratched it into the boot lid, basically saying, "sorry I scratched your ship" the alien's tool/weapon is made up from scrap parts from various sources. The wall and pavement are made from Chemiwood, and the base has two pieces of 1/35 scale cobble stone roadway, on top of Modroc and perspex. The alien ships, are lit with strands of electroluminescent wire and powered with a 6v inverter. steve
  9. we do have a few 50 chevy&#39;s her in the uk. one was a feature of custom car magazine a couple of issues back. there was also some at the nsra supernats last year, one of which was a rat, that sat so low, the worms had to duck. more up-dates, mods to the front wheels, checking the ride height, steering arms in place and work on the rear suspension. <div></div> <div></div> <div></div> <div></div>
  10. ok, just a got a set of Hoppin Hydros wheels, and for me, I think they look better on here than the Diablos. I have started doing the suspension, which will be an air ride system. All of the suspension will be scratchbuilt, with the air bags being hand formed from Chemiwood (Modelboard). I planned alot out on paper first, working out the track width, wheel and tyre width etc. Hopefully this will make it easy even though the wheels have to be modified slightly, the material that makes up the hub needs to be trimmed. thanks for looking.
  11. got the pick-up bed in primer now. it's severely channeled over the chassis with a new panel molded in. also, the sides have been paneled over and the fenders have been blended in with the back smoothed over, kind of like a smooth side with a separate bed and the firewall has been smoothed out. i have modified the front of the chassis as it originally curved downwards, so i straightened it out so that the truck could sit low without any obstruction.
  12. Here are three of my fave car models. A Pro-Street Austin in Metalflake Red. Working suspension and an award to it's name. Then, a 1/16th Dragster, with many machined and scratchbuilt parts. And finally a model that caused me such a headache, a resin bodied 39 Merc that ended up with a paint job as smooth as glass.
  13. Thanks guys. I managed to find a site that can do BIGGER PICS. :-)
  14. I have so many projects bouncing around in my head, it's so difficult to decide what to do next. Even though I have bought a few kits lately, I chose to do a kit that I have had for years, an AMT 50 Chevy Pick-up. This will be low, chopped, pearl green n mean.
  15. Awesome build John, love it. looking forward to seeing this complete. question for you John: how long do you give the gloss black base to dry, before applying the chrome? I recently did a large T-800 Terminator with areas of Alclad on it, and gave the base a day to dry. steve
  16. some outdoor pics.
  17. here are some more pics. thanks for looking.
  18. if it's water based acrylic, a soak in good old oven cleaner. if it's it's the solvent type, sand blast or sand off. i'm sticking to Halfords from now on for my base colours. well i decided to crack on and get the merc done, so here it is. i will post more pics later. thanks for looking........on to the next project.
  19. the paint is finally done, clear coated and polished.
  20. thanks everyone, i need the push on this. this is how the main paint looks now, just need the pinstriping and clear coat, so far, it's all good. thanks for looking.
  21. ok, here we go again with the paint, and yep it is totally different. grafite metallic and metallic blue with the crystal blue pearl (both Halfords paints lol). the colours wil be seperated by the belt line. i have also made a modification to the grill opening, as there will be a photo etched 40 ford grill inserted.
  22. i used Hi-coat for the white, somehow it like being overcoated with Specialists paints. think i will stick with with Halfords as i should have done in the first place. i have never had a problem like this before even with light colours, so it must be the type of paint i'm using on this. usually i stick with one manufacturer for the colour, but i switched this time and has caused no end of headaches. i have now decided to strip off the paint and start again, maybe with a two-tone colour with the pearl. dark on top, and light below. here are some pics of the engine in place and the interior which is in progress. i will get there in the end.
