For what its worth from one who's been doing masters (and selling resin) for a few years.....your casting looks great, but you might think about doing a hood and including it(for a few bucks more) From your pictures,it looks like the stock hood might need some 're-contouring' to fit your body at the cowl. Believe it or not, this WILL make a big differance to some prospective buyers................Steve Zimmerman, aka the'Z'man

What is Sacred is, uh, Sacred
Steven Zimmerman replied to FloridaBoy's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
....My biggest complaint is.....HATS !....How many times have I seen someone wearing a ball cap, cowboy hat, etc. bend over to closely inspect details on a model.....and not realize how close their hat comes to scratching a paint job.......or knocking a model off it's display stand. I've had to wipe drool and mucus(disgusting) off my models at contests before, and still have a model that the hood won't fit because the fuel injection system sits higher, due to someone pushing down on top of said model and breaking the molded in front pan where it was attached to the frame...............Steven Zimmerman aka the'Z'man -
"Happy Halloween!"...
Steven Zimmerman replied to locoengr's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
On Halloween,15 years ago,I got married!...Both of us had been married before,so instead of a traditional wedding and reception,we got married in my parent's living room(my father was a Methodist minister) and had a Halloween party instead of a reception.....So on trick or treat night,we celebrate by getting in costume and hand out candy to the kids............Steve Zimmerman aka the'Z'man -
The frame supplied with the resin kit has been altered to fit the 41 body;it is a differant wheelbase from the Wagonrod.....Steve Zimmerman

I do a lot of my building between 4 am and 5 am,when I leave for work. I try to get in a few minutes before bedtime(doesn't always happen) and on saturday evenings, a couple of modelling buddies come over and we build/watch whatever movie is on the sci/fi channle....Steven Zimmerman aka the'Z'man.........

Wheels are rallye wheels from an old diecast vette, cut apart into separate pieces(center cap, wheel, trim ring) ,enlarged to a scale 19", then cast in resin, with the center caps sent out and chromed. The outer trim rings are modified wheel 'outers' from Machined Aluminium specialties.........Steve Zimmerman aka the'Z'man

I thought about GM torch red,but I've already done 2 red 'uns this year (and already have a 65 phantom Chevelle sedan delivery started that's gonna be RED).I thought about black, but I painted two models black last year (and have a 67 phantom Chevelle sedan delivery already on the project bench painted.....yup---BLACK) Hmmmm,I'm beginning to see a pattern here ! ........All I know at this point is,the color has to offset those black rallye wheels I have on it.........'Z'

Right now,I've narrowed it down to Chevy Hugger Orange,'Pale Orange'(an old PPG automotive lzcquer color), and silver,if I can find the right shade.....of course, that could all change 5 minutes before I shoot color on it....................Steven Zimmerman aka the'Z'man................

Airbrush cleaning methods...
Steven Zimmerman replied to abedooley's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
I've been using an air brush for forty years, both on model cars and and for doing murals, pin striping, etc on cars, motorcycles, etc. When it comes to airbrushin,ya CANNOT git dem suckers TOO clean...Ruining a beautiful paint job with specks of 'yesterdays color' can mess up your whole day ,I would say disassembling to clean your airbrush is a 'necessary evil' if you want to have any success at all using this tool. One trick I've learned is to use carb cleaner to clean your gun....I buy it at the local auto parts store, and make sure you get a can with the long thin nozzle tube. This stuff will take off paint thats been dried on the outside of your airbrush for YEARS !....When done,be sure to run some lacquer thinner through the gun,to remove any traces of the carb cleaner, its pretty strong stuff. I have 7 or 8 airbrushes, and have been using carb cleaner for the last decade and have not had to replace any seals yet(knock on wood).............Steven Zimmerman aka the'Z'man -

My first visit to a hobby shop was in 1968,when I was just out of high school . I went to Erie,Pa. to visit a friend of mine, and he took me to a hobby shop on west 38th street(it's been gone for 30 years)....it had EVERYTHING-a wall from floor to ceiling with model cars,a wall behind the counter with EVERY color and brand of model spray paint available-Pactra,AMT Testors....all there! I was into military miniatures also, and they had a whole line of 1/72nd(I think) scale armored vehicles, figures, bunkers, gun emplacements,etc.....At one time I owned over a thousand of those suckers ! Slot cars too,in every scale.....I was in that store every week for years, and spent thousands of dollars there. In those days, you could hop in the car and go to Montgomery Wards,Westons,Jamesway (like walmart),every news stand in the area, all the five & dime stores....they ALL had model cars,planes,ships........In a 50 mile radius from Titusville Pa (my home town then)there were at least a HUNDRED stores you could buy models in.......................(SIGH)............Steven Zimmerman aka the'Z'man.....

I have used 'Q'tip tubes for air conditioning ducts in dashboards. I mount photo/etched duct covers right to them, then drill a hole of the same size in the dashboard;easier to mount that way. I've used McDonald's stir stix and straws as masking aids when painting something long & thin; I just used this when painting a hood with struts attached, just slid the stirring tube(actually a very thin straw) right over the strut. All my braided lines are elastic thread from Jo anne's Fabric; A C Moore and Michaels are another good source for cheap scratchbuilding supplies and Pat Catans is even cheaper/better stocked.....At work we are required to wear earplugs, one type is joined by a braided cord(read 'braided hose in 1/25) Also at work we use a lot of plastic shim stock sheet in sizes ranging from .002 up to .030, what they throw out comes home with me and is superglue compatable (YES!!!....grin) I've 'educated' my fellow employees to the point that they bring me any bits n pieces(read JUNK) they think I might be able to use..... I've made wheel trim rings from aluminum tubing I've cut from old junk lawn chairs................'Z'
