I'm thinking vans, specifically. I got a Tamiya 1/12 scale van body in the mail today. Just wondering about what was "on the scene" back then. I'm thinking contemporary colors in a '70s paint scheme. I gotta look into getting a touch-up gun...and a compressor to run it. I'm thinking of using big metalflakes...like the kind still used on bass boats.

Yeah on second thought a screed probably wouldn't work down to this size. I'm certainly not going build a proof-of-concept prototype. But man, that FSM article was neat.

I was intrigued by this thread. I have both kits so I busted out the X-acto and the calipers. I tried Chuck's second method. Now I also need a second Escalade so I can put its body side molding on the pickup bed. Right now it needs some massaging, but I think it looks good. I'll spray on some primer and post pics later on.

Its cross-section would be half round, and yes, it's a tongue-in-cheek reply. A serious reply would be to make a tiny screed for any ring that is large enough.

You could get a round ball mill and chuck the part in a rotary table, then mill out a half-round circle, lay a round o-ring in it. It would then have a half-round cross section.

Compared to Tamiya's kit, it's very simplified. Kind of like comparing both company's Testarossas.

I finally got this finished yesterday. It's an enclosure for the free-standing porch swing on my back patio. I can't afford to build an enclosed porch right now, so this is the next best thing. It's made of 2" PVC pipe. I'm a plumber by trade and this just seemed like a natural. Next step is a cover with canvas on the top and back and mosquito netting on the front and sides. My mom's taking care of that. She's been sewing since she was a kid. Yeah I know; not a model car, but it is plastic and it is scratchbuilt I made it big enough to put one's feet up or put a little table in there for newspapers/car magazines/lemonade/whatever. It's darn sure tall enough. Oh yeah- well after it got started, I found out there are fittings made for making PVC furniture. If I were to do it again...wow it would look a LOT better.

I finally got the chance to shoot a photo in good light. I hope this one gives a better idea of the color. Again, I'm really happy with how it's looking. Decanting spray paint and airbrushing it is turning out great. Not only is it great paint that polishes well, but the custom mix possibilities are endless. I'm already thinking of a project using custom mixed candy purple.

I have never read this. I can't imagine who would give this advice or why. I like Tamiya spray paint. I've laid down several nice paint jobs with it. The car I'm painting now has sharp high spots, bad news for a spray can candy paint job, which is why I'm airbrushing. I'll airbrush the clear, too. I want precise control in the small areas that have those high spots.

That's not really the color. It's really a candy burgundy. Today's outdoor pics also look orange. Maybe it's time for a new camera.

Here's mine. All Tamiya spray paints decanted to a jar and airbrushed. Gold basecoat. Color is custom-mix candy burgundy. Clear red with a few drops of Racing Blue. The blue is a metallic, but the effect should be very subtle due to the tiny amount of flake. It will get pearl on top of the burgundy. The paint looks orange in the flash. I'll try to get an outdoor photo tomorrow. It needs more burgundy. It's not dark enough yet. Man I really wish I could have gotten an outdoor photo today. I'm VERY happy with how it's looking. If anyone else wants to photos WIP photos of their Tamiya DBS and make this an unofficial Community Build Project, please feel free.
