  3. Hey, I really like this one, I love the 60ies style and the stance, there is only one "but". And this "but" is not only for you but for all the others out there, but since your model is the one I would like to see "different" here is some thoughts about my lil' problem. In scale modeling, there are two things you can't cheat on, they make or brake the car, nevermind if build pro, or just for fun. It is the glass and the wheels. See, the tires on your rod stick "in" too much. Just a bit of sanding the lip of the rim from the inside and make it as thin or "sharp" as possible, and sanding off the surface where the two parts of the rim come together would allow to move the tire "outwards", what would make the car 100% more real, no matter what. This problem is multiplied by the use of chromed wheels, where the chrome finish adds to the thickness of the plastic itself. 10 Minutes with a file or fine sandpaper and your wheels look like mine. Real . I keep seeing beautifully built models that are given away as miniatures just because of this ridicoliously thick lip on the rim. Real tires are filled with air under quite high pressure and hug to the lip wanting to spread, do it in your models aswell. It wil make them so much better and so much more real.
  4. Yea, the Body itself is quite nice, would take forever to chop a kit body like that. I am hunting for one more of those, want to make something absolutley radical out of it, get rid of the back window, dirty paintjob, raise the front slam the back even more, new bumpers, whole new grille, we'll see...
  5. Well Jose, there is no WIP on that one whatsoever. This here is a Custom Custom. I bought this as one of... Umm... Can't remember the company, Dub Something or what, die-cast just because I lkied the chop. I figured it was nice enough to get something decent off that body, and it was planned as a one Weekend project that lasted several months... Previously it had a brigt red paintjob with disgustingly molded biege interior, and some chrome billet rims that I threw away the moment I unpacked it from the blister. As said, the chop was the only reason for me to buy it, love the teardrop but other than that it was a qute boring thing. I had an old AMT Merc lying around here for a while, half built but not good whatsoever, and so I cannibalized it for this one, added some details, BMF treatment, flamethrowers, curbfillers, new wheels of course, some detailing on the inside including the skull for the Airride switches, added Spotlights and that's basically it. Then I just painted it in a nice Black/Black Combo and just tried out how the engine bay would look painted... And that is probably one of my favourite features on this one, I am seriously thinking about painting the engine bay in my Cad just like the one on that thing... Now, as a proud owner of the Revell Merc, I will sooner or later replace the Grille with something more interesting, as much as I like the car from the back, I can not stand it's grille... I have seen some sick stuff over the years, models of whatever where I did not know if model or real, 1:9 Pocher stuff that some dude used to build a metal car, scratchbuilds of mchinery that makes you sick, cars that looked so real that i was sure somebody photographed ral vehicle, but this is just unbelivable. Blows my mind...
  7. The chrome will be dull. But the bumpers need to be taken on and off every time you disassemble the car to get "in". So that will happen when I finally glue everything together, and don on need to touch them every 3 seconds anymore. Then it gets some dust, rust, and whatever.
  8. Hej! I just picked it up few days ago and I thought I'd like to share it with you. It is the Polar Lights Snapkit that I begann some 5 years ago, and that has been sittin' here and waiting for paint for the last 4 years. The Idea was to build it oob and just try to replicate the outside as realistic as possible. Sort of a pure paint project, space for experiments with different mediums and whatnot. The stage that I am aiming for is restorable driving vehicle. Something that is worth putting new wheels and mufflers on, to drive it around, or hit a local show before tearing it apart, but far beyond just buffing it up to get a classic. Actually the state that most of the MM Cars are in that are for sale at the moment. Having a sort of a story helps alot with a project like that, makes it sort of believable, and giving you a certain rules while damaging the car. As I picked it up I knew that I won't meke the same mistakes that I made whlie building the Ecto ( http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=41969&st=0&p=438050&#entry438050 ) so first thing I did was to drill out the molded in Headlights so I will have no excuse to leave them as they are, despite my spare light box is almost empty (if you have some spares that you don't need please send 'em to me! Same goes for any steel wheels, Have tons of five spoke, or what, but never gonna use 'em)... As said, most of my attention went into the body, I used my own Cadillac for reference where, and how the Paint is chipping, used some maskol where I wanted to have pure rust and chips in Paint, damaged the bodywork and put some bondo, so the paint can be sanded off and see what happens, then I also wanted to repilcate something that is very difficult to get in that small, nameley rust under the paintjob, bubbles and whatnot. For that I mixed up salt with water and with a brush I applied that paste where I thought it would make some sense. After it dried for about an hour I sprayed the whole thing matt black and scraped of the salty bits, and then with a bit of polish I buffed out the sufaces where I wanted to simulate the spaces where the laquer would crack (body curves, anywhere where water can stay for a while), after that there was yet another coat of matt black and waiting for the results. Everything I do is basically experimenting, thanx to magic abilities of braking fluid you can redo paint as often as you wish, that is i you beginn from zero and if you can wait 4 weeks, heh... However, as intended, the bits where the salt mixture stuck, were full of tiny bits of paint, after the second coat the surfaces look like there is something going on underneath, the bits I polished the paint stuck to the body but cracked as intended, very fine lines over the whole surface, nice. The maskolchips came just as expected, I did that a gazillion times now and the results are always realistic... After another drying period I sanded the spots where I used the bondo and buffed out the doors, front wings and rear quarters, so everywhere where the paint wouldn't burn off. The result is quite convincing for the first time, so I went further, added ruststains, some dirt and ots of chips, painted one rim with diverse pigments just to make it as rusty as it can get, and then after I looked at the car for a while, I found that it was missing something, I didn't rust it out enough so the rust takes over the black, and the whole thing looked... Dead. I figured that a bit of color would make it interesting, and most important I was able to weather this bit different than the rest of the car, as it might have come from a vehicle that was standing somewhere else for another time period, or that was left for dead for another reason. I was looking at pictures of Miller-Meteors to figure out what colors they had, and at first I wanted to paint one door in dark green or red, but then I thought "what the hell" and choose the most famous cadillac color. PINK. I know, the odds that somebody would unscrew a front wing from an Eldorado to put on hearse are not very big, but what if the dude who owns th real thing has a friend who is restoring a convertbile, used NOS replacements and the wing of the Meteor was damaged so badly that evn the FUBAR wing would be worth to put on, just for a while, so the car is roadworthy? Who knows. So pink it is. The interior is not quite ready yet, I choose the colors that my real Cadillac comes in, shades of dark blue and green, added some blanket to the front seat (a paper tissue), and it still needs tons of detailing work, I will put in some spare parts, airfilter, whatever. We'll see. So yup, that is how far I am, now I have to BMF the windows and finish the interior before I can do something to the body, since most of the work that follows won't allow me to touch the car rough enough to take of the body again... So yup... Thanx for reading, that is how far I got. No idea if I update it anytime soon, I do not remember to make pics while building...

    Nah... Look at the flashbar, just painted, today I'd make it from scratch. Or the headlights, horrible to not cut 'em out. Or the tailfins, and how the red is bleeding out. Not good. Especially when you see how I build today... This is a current work in progress: You understand what I mean?

    Another one that I show because of my current Cadillac craze. I built it about 10-12 years ago, can not recall exactly when it was anymore, I know that I got it from a friend for cheap, and that it was my first attempt to build something shiny. I suck at painting clean surfaces, so this is no exception, it is "OKAY" but I could be way better. It does not really match the original car, because at the time I built it I had no Internet, and I built it while watching Ghostbusters on... Video. I dug it out few days ago out of my display closet, polished it again, freshened it up a tiny bit, and there you go. I think it is too dull, kind of... Dead. I found more than few spots where I'd do something different today. The Lights are not touched, I'd have them frenched and built from scratch now, I would do some more interior, despite you don't see much anyhow, I'd add some details, and I would not loose one of the taillights... It was also my first BMFed thing. Kind of dumb to BMF a '59 Cadillac without any experience with this medium... That is why I ordered another one that will be built to match the real Ecto that is standin' around at Universal Pictures, all dirty rusty and lost. Nevertheless, since I made this pics today, no reason to hide it. Especially even if you recall that it was built ages ago, it still a quite clean built and it still features some nice detail here and there. So yeah... Enjoy.
  12. Thanks Art. Yup, I am aware that there will be lots of work, but since I have the best inspiration and measurments in the garage, I guess I'll be fine. Never seen any of those models, so I just wait until the warped thing arrives, then measure, measure, measure... And then decide which way is best to get a nice model of my car. We'll see.
  13. Well, I ordered one of those croocket Jo-han Cadillacs first. I see that the front of the one i choose is very bent, but I still have an Ecto 1 from Polar Lights, sporting fantastic shape and crisp detail, We will see how it will fit the Jo-Han body wehn I cut it of along the door and hoodlines. If that works, then I'll cast it in resin, and if not, then I still can buy the 89 Bucks Modelhaus Coupe, lenghten it and use the Jo-han roof.
  14. Nah. They are always around in Autum, and loads of them. Just pick up some, load them in a small paper box and it will last forever. Used them on this one too: Truth is, there is nothing that can beat nature while trying to imitate it.
  15. Yeah, I saw the Modelhaus Resin stuff. Me like alot, it seems they have just the Coupe. Seems to me as it is easier to striaghten out the warped Jo_han Body, or replace the front section with the Ecto-1 front, and then cast it in resin, and then have a good body. Or just hunt for a god and straight Jo_han. Modelhaus is expensive aswell, so it does not really matter I geuss... One way or another, it will get beyond a normal Kit price, the only question is which way is it less work to get a nice six window?
  16. Thanx, glad you like it. The leaves are simply birch seeds glued on with some clear laquer, and washed here and there just to get some variation in color. That's it.
  17. Heh... Bearings huh? I can not tell you what impresses me most. This car is simply the top notch. There is not a single car out there that can be measured with Cadillacs standards. It is simply the best car ever built. Jon, I might be a newbie around here, but that is mostly to the fact that I have a gazillion other hobbies, I started about 15 years ago with tanks and whatnot, so yeah, I have a good portion of experience with different materials, resin, white metal, whatever. For now I would get one of those Johan things, and since they are warped, I'd try to straight out the body and make a resin copy, just because there you are sure that it will last. We'll see.

Drove it over 190 miles to my workshop, after it was standin' still for many years. Pure fantastic! It's a spaceship. It is a Kansas car, as far as I am concerned in al original state, we will weld the floors and other than that I plan to leave it as is. Then there is few things that need to be replaced so it's safer to drive and then I'd drive he hell out of it. If you have some interesting facts about this cars, please share!

  20. Hej, was lookin' around the net but didn't find anything usefull. Is there a model of a 1960 Cadillac, preferably Sedan out there? Any scale? Resin? Plastic? Garage Kit? Any ideas, tips?
  21. Hej! It's been a while since I 've posted anything, that is mostly because I was busy with work that is slowly but sureley taking up most of my time, and of course my real cars. There was an old Stationwagon that I rescued from the crusher, and last two months or so, I was hunting my dreams and now, after annoying the guy who had THE CAR for long enough, and after a crazy ride home over 190 miles under it's own power, I am a proud owner of a big heap of real american Iron, leather, rust, lacquer, chrome, fungus, and a pair of sky high tailfins. Yes sir. A ninetensixty Cadillac Sedan DeVille series sixty two is parked in the garage, which most likley won't let me build the tiny things as often as I'd like in the near future, but sit under that monster with a welder and makin' my hands dirty building a real car makes up for it. Whooo! However, the state of my Cadillac reminds me of a model that I bulit a while ago, and although the Cad is not in such a sorry state, I'd like to share it with you. The car was put together from a Revell box, just sporting some AMT A-Team Van wheels, and unfortunalley I used the beautiful whitewalls inside out and painted the inserts black. Shame on me for not looking for some replacements and keepin' those beautiful wheels for some further projects. The build itself was really simple, and the kit sports some fabulous fitting, small gimmicks such as a glas insert for the tach, or crisp moldings and details. Lovley! Painted it with whatever was on my table back then, tried out some techniques and that is what came out after just few weekends of building. There you go: Thanks for looking!
  22. It's just a joke. Here in Europe people are crazy about white cars, you know, I Pod effect, but this car was built way back before it was "in" to have a white car. Apparently stickerin' UN on it is the only thing you can do to it. People ask about it, and Toby is one of the people that just go along with that, Yes sir, this car was in Somalia escorting humanitarian missions... hehehe... Truth is, the car was owned by an eldery gentleman. Never seen Africa or any conflict.
