You're probably right about the Buicks. I never heard of a Nova GS...

Would be neat to build a B-24 with the Ford blue oval here and there, or Corsair with the Goodyear logo, or a Wildcat or Avenger with the GM logo.

What if NASCAR didn't count laps under caution as actual race laps?
-
On a lighter side: What if we (as individuals, of course) all still had all of the models that we had put together over the course of our lives, way back to the beginning, as well as the unbuilt and in-the-works kits that we let go for whatever reason?

More interesting, too!

Amen to the post of 1:14 by Kyle. What if Sprint Cup cars - you know, "stock cars"- were required to run the same types of engines that were available in them from the factory? No "corporate" or aftermarket motors.

Sometimes "more stuff" and not "better stuff" is just what's needed, as exemplified by the Sherman tanks and Soviet small arms of WWII. They weren't better, there were just a lot more of them and they were less complex, ergo, easier to maintain and less subject to harsh conditions than their counterparts.

What if the Titanic didn't hit that iceberg?

Then again, there's always the immortal "What if Elanor Roosevelt could fly?" question from Saturday Night Live. If any of you are into reading and alternative history, I suggest the works of Harry Turtledove. Fascinating stuff. What if the US remained a productive manufacturing nation, and did not become a service-oriented society? What if Ferdinand Porsche never designed the "People's Auto" for Hitler? What would it be like if one went into a crowded hall to play a game called "Boing" instead of "Bingo"? What if someone- anyone- managed to get all those old JoHan molds back into production? What if Detail Master created their photoetched products on rubber backing, without the "sprue"?

What if the Mustang did go front-wheel drive as it almost did in the early '90's?
-
Alternate history = rusty 'Vette diorama!

What if the Corvette were made from steel instead of fiberglass?

I dunno. Maybe one could buy a Jeep at a Chevy or GM dealer?

Leave us not forget the Buick GS cars.

My experience with Tamiya kits, while admittedly limited, does allow me to say that they are among the best. I currently have one PzKpfw IV that I picked up for a steal in the early '80s, the Jeep shown in an previous post (it has working suspension: metal coil springs) and three WWII fighters. I can tell you that just test fitting the aircraft parts shows the care in engineering that went into these kits; I don't think I'll need filler at any seams. It's been so long since I opened the tank that I couldn't honestly say anything about it. I am not saying that Tamiya makes perfect kits but they're as close to it as I've ever encountered.

I think R&D Unique did make white metal u-joints at one time... I don't know if they're still around. Don't forget to keep the u-joints "phased" . I didn't know.

Mystery Chevy promos
johnbuzzed replied to ChrisBcritter's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Back in late '68, local (L.I.) Chevy dealers ran an ad in the papers that advised they were selling models for a buck each. I was thirteen and even I knew what a bargain was at that time, but why read the fine print? We (my Dad and I) went in and I mentioned the ad to one of the salesmen- we might even have had the ad with us- and he seemed kind of reluctant about it as were just in for the model, but he eventually parted (no pun intended) with an Aurora 1/25 Chapparal for that old dollar bill. Totally wrong kit for my young mind, but a kit for a buck was a kit for a buck. As the old saying goes: "I wish I still had that kit". -
Not very "PC" were they ?

Wow- I remember getting free STP decals at the local Shell station when I was a kid. I also wrote to the various speed equipment manufacturers and did get a lot of free decals that way. And just a few months ago, Vic Edelbrock was at Charlotte Motor Speedway (for the Autofair), celebrating his company's 75th anniversary by autographing hats and catalogs at no cost for the attendees(read:potential customers) and giving away commemorative pins. Business is a weird animal. -

Why, pardon me, Kevin. Why not READ? My full name is and has always been on each and every one of my posts, along with my (given) club nickname (which stems from my last name). Point of fact : "Indian Land" is an un-incorporated area of South Carolina (just south of Charlotte, NC) in which I reside. The name stems from the fact that at one time, there were aboriginal Americans living in the area. I am not making this up. You can Google it, if you care to do some research. By the way, Ontario is a rather large province- where in Ontario, Canada do you reside? Ben actually mentioned first that this is a car forum and differentiated between it and the truck forums to which he also belongs. I didn't. Perhaps you should re-read ALL of the posts from ALL who did post concerning the types of models to which we were referring before you claim that I was on any type of horse. Now I smell a dead horse, so let's leave this one go. -

Sounds like a nice adult beverage... ...to enjoy with a south-of-the-border dinner special.
