  1. And how many people have been turned off due to spray painting problems but the cans stay the same? We all are constantly learning and sometimes we learn from our mistakes/problems/misfortunes. I suppose the molds could have been corrected but from what I understand that could be expensive and of course, that would have been passed along to the "consumer".
  2. Did this kit ever have two engines...?
  3. Yep, it's a good kit-bash kit, good parts kit and a good kit to build. The mods need to be performed to get the updated components to fit the older parts from the original MPC issue of this kit. It's not a Tamiya kit; we are modelers and should expect to have to perform a little basic surgery on a kit (even on some of those more expensive imported kits, and not only those which are just molded in China). Maybe with the money this kit brings in, Round 2 will be able to give us a few more welcome repops.
  4. Tom who...??? Oh yeah, Tom! Only kidding . We're LIARS club members from way back and could tell you some stories... I'm glad you did well with your sales. Yep, I was at the show; I was the one who kept walking up for awards in the LIARS t-shirt. I'm sorry I missed you again but I will catch up to you one of these days; if not at a SCMA meeting in Rock Hill, then at one of the upcoming local shows.
  5. Missed you again, Mike. I'll catch up with you eventually at one of the local shows.
  6. Good seeing you again, Tom. We hope you and Rich can come on down for the "barbeque" next weekend. Mike, I missed you again... I'll see you at the next local show, I hope.
  7. How about if "we" just offer up our own prayers and thoughts for him, just out of respect for a member of the automotive world which we seem to enjoy? Rest in peace, Dick.
  8. From one (relocated) LI'er to another, welcome to the forum. You can learn a lot here, and not just about scale modeling.
  9. "Every generation blames the one before"; sometimes, the blame is passed along to the following generation. It's nobody's fault. We all have contributed to the changes in our lives, lifestyles and world in one way or another, and humans will continue to do so as long as our species exists, wherever it does. I am happy that my sons are into scale modeling, albeit different subjects. My daughter tried a couple of snap kits way back when; the interest in building didn't last long, but she does appreciate my efforts, as do my sons and my wife. I would like to see my grandchildren involved in the hobby (and I will lump all genres and call it "scale modeling"); so far, my grandson has a few snap kits under his belt (and on the floor and shelves). If at some point, the interest is gone, so be it. It's their decision and not mine. This is "my" hobby and I have no pretensions of needing to pass it along or on to anybody. If a colleague at work, a friend or neighbor should express an interest in building, we'll discuss and I'll offer advice (as I have done in the past). That's it. Times change, so do people and interests. One day, we'll probably find that those popular electronic devices which seem to captivate young and old alike today will become passe and those who are "into" them will bemoan the loss, but the world will go on, as it will if scale modeling, as a hobby, should fade away.
  10. That's pretty cool, the color seems very close to the molded color of the snap-fast Prowler kit. I've thought about building a Prowler as a slant-6 powered rat rod...
  11. I hope to be there, with some "new" and "old" builds.
  12. My all-time favorite box art and the most inspirational (for me) to build. I actually completed one of these when I was about 10 or 11; I had built the "Hot Rod" issue about 25 years ago and still have another "Hot Rod" kit (three kits in one box) in my stash, already built in my head. But the original issue box art really got my attention. Isn't it amazing, how the threads evolve from one topic to another? I think it's pretty cool. Thanks for the info regarding the T'bolt kit and let's keep the thread running to see where it goes.
  13. When you look at the big picture, not many four-door sedans or station wagons of any era have been produced in styrene, kit form by the "major" manufacturers. But a lot have been very nicely produced in resin. It all depends on where you look and how much you want to spend.
  14. Wow- it's hard to believe it was that long ago... time does fly when you're having fun. Thanks for the info..
  15. I'll say that I've been in an aisle on a tropical isle.
  16. Does anyone remember when the Revell Ford Thunderbolt kit was first issued? Please share the info if you do. Thanks.
  17. I think it's based on religious/faith beliefs.
  18. I don't think the problem lies with the plastic being polished, rather, it's the chemical(s) in the polish that might cause the paint to not adhere.
  19. I don't think the forum would shut down due to a few miscreants; they're all over and the world goes on, as will the forum.
  20. And why would one not be able to compare apples and oranges?
  21. Ask Rich Manson- I'm a known fence-sitter I would prefer to buy at a LHS and I do, whenever I get the chance. I feel better having an idea that the $$$ is staying local, along with the local sales tax. "Wow, cool, look what I found!": it's like the thrill of the chase, probably stemming from our hunter/forager origins. And, at least you can have a somewhat intelligent conversation regarding their wares and/or your purchase or interests. But I also buy at the chains such as Hobby Lobby and Michaels, depending on the situation (and if I'm with my wife as she's doing her shopping). I do also buy some items on-line because they are not available anywhere else or a LHS doesn't carry the item(s); sometimes, just out of convenience. None of the brick-and-mortar stores can carry everything that the "cottage industry" provides, and it's nice to be able to place an order for something whenever the notion arises, knowing that it will be in the mailbox or at the front door soon. But I will always be aware of the fact that there is nothing wrong with nostalgia. That's why Round 2 continues to reissue kits with (almost) original packaging- it makes those who buy those kits feel good. That's why so many of us baby-boomers seek cars from our past. There are times when the old American adage "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" does mean something. Why change, just for the sake of change, or adapt a new philosophy just because everyone else seems to be doing it? New or different does not necessarlily equal better.
  22. Uhh, it's wet, just like up by y'all. Will you be around for the show in Simpsonville 5/18?
  23. What if Henry's last name was... say, Schultz. Would people be driving Schultz Mustangs?
  24. I'd like to see a lot of Junior Stock kits. I think I read more about them than any other cars in Hot Rod back in the late '60's/early '70's.
  25. I can't begin to imagine your feelings... You have my sincere sympathy for your loss.
