Stacey David's Rat Roaster by : REVELL
johnbuzzed replied to Greg Myers's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
It shouldn't be difficult to remove the seam but it is unexpected in a "new" mold/kit, especially one that seems to be very popular. -
Our cat, Twinkie, used to sit on my lap as I built. I have a picture of her supervising there as I worked on a '40 Ford pickup. The years have gone by; our furry kids (we had two dogs, too) have crossed the Rainbow Bridge and circumstances are not right for a pet right now... it sux...

'36 FORD HIGHBOY - WIP - REMEMBERING A FRIEND
johnbuzzed replied to Ramfins59's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Looking good, Rich. If you want to "personalize" the plate, go to licenseplatestv.com- you can make a'52 NY plate with Daves initials; I'm just not sure if the proportions would be exactly right. -
Stacey David's Rat Roaster by : REVELL
johnbuzzed replied to Greg Myers's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Holy cow- this kit certainly is getting a lot of attention. With all of the other Revell Deuce kits available that allow for multiple building options, I gotta ask: why? Is it because of the individual parts like the wheels and tires or what? I would like to see Revell offer all those individual parts as options in their other Deuce kits. I think of this kit as the current AMT '62 Pontiac, you know, "You gotta get this kit- it's the greatest thing since (fill in the blank)". Uh-huh. The only reason I have one of those is because it came in a value pack with two or three other models at Toys R Us. If I do buy a Rat Roaster, it will be just for parts. Green metalflake hot rods with Buick portholes make me cringe. I would rather have seen the R&D $$$ go to a replica of the McMullen Roadster. Of course, that's just my opinion and we all have our opinions... -

Not an SCMA member yet but I intend to go to a meeting at the Hobby Stop in Rock Hill probably next month. I'm glad you like my trucks. -

Mike, I probably looked right at you at some point but didn't know it-- we should wear name tags. We got there a little after 11; y entries were the Gundam, the '67 Charger, the yellow GMC tow truck and the red and white Ramper. -

Nice pictures, Tom. And, howdy, Rich- I took 2nd place Sci Fi with a 1/100 Zaku 1 Gundam and a Top Fifteen award with the '67 Charger. And I know Mike took two awards but I forgot which... I believe for his Super Bee and Camaro... -

See you at the show, Tom. -
Wow, that's cooler than cool- it's freakin' neat!!! Not just another cookie-cutter '50 Olds custom or hot rod- why can't I think of things like that to build?

If I remember correctly, the Roscoe chassis is the same as the Joker Goon Car chassis, which is nothing like the '68, 69 and '70 B-body chassis that AMT/Ertl produced. -
3-D Printing is now affordable
johnbuzzed replied to Darren B's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Hey, the dinosaurs were around for millions of years - not too shabby for a bunch of small-brained creatures. I, too, feel like one of them. I'll welcome the aftermarket items that will be available via 3-D printing but I'll still want to open that sealed kit box and get that rush of fresh styrene. It is said that the sense of smell is the most evocative and I pretty much agree with that line of thought. -
That's one very nice hot rod.

Box art can be cool but I wouldn't base a purchase on box art. Magazine and forum reviews are helpful in separating the wheat from the chaff. Unless, of course, I really wanna build the subject of a particular kit; then, it don't matter...

Very cool, very neat, very original. I dig it the most!

Nice model. I'd like to have the real thing in my driveway now.
-
Very nice build. Did the dual master cylinder come with the kit?

STACY DAVID/REVELL MODEL KITS CHAMPIONSHIPS

Someone who complains about finishing in first place... -
I got SA and FSM at Barnes and Noble this weekend; didn't go to the LHS for MCM yet. I'm almost embarassed by the quality of SA, but at least it's reliable- I know it will be there on time, unlike MCM. My wife said I should get a subscription (or two or...) but whether to subscribe to a lesser quality or less reliable is a dilemma. Then again, I still like the thrill of the hunt. I wonder how Kalmbach can produce a magazines like FSM and SA that cover two very similar subjects yet have such different editorial quality.

This is a really, really great project work of art. Truly inspirational. I hope I am able to do something similar when I can finally retire. My hat is off to you, Jim.
