Nice pictures- they'll be good for the "old" AMT kit, too. I gotta keep them.

What's the story behind your user name/avatar?
johnbuzzed replied to JollySipper's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
And to you and yours, Tom. Thanks. -
Yep; that's a nice model. Did you have any plans or ideas to build your rat rod or did you just kinda go with the flow and use what you had?

January Barrett-Jackson

They're there, but not in the numbers as the '69 Camaros, "Tri-Five" Chevies, etc. Maybe more people want to hold on to their old Mopars . I would if I had one. -

Yeah, I have watched some B-J auctions in the past, and some of the cars are cool, but I would'nt go even if I won lotto... it's a lot of over-hyped nonsense. Won't watch it anymore as I don't need to hear the inane ramblings of some auctioneer mixed in with the questionable utterances of whatever they call those people that "help" those who are bidding make their bids. "Tasteless garbage..." At least, that's my opinion. Maybe if the event were to be held with a touch of class, as with some of the auction action seen in "Chasing Classic Cars"... -

I remember seeing that truck at the NNL East, Tom. It's a really nice build. How's it holding up- do you have it somewhere special this time of year? -
Coming soon....Model King 1957 Police car kit!
johnbuzzed replied to Dave Van's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Does the kit come with a dog figure to use with the K-9 unit markings? -
The new Revell Challenger kit has a contemporary Hemi, as do the Lindberg Charger cop cars and the Testors Chargers kits; I think this Hemi still has pushrods. I'd like to see some in-scale speed equipment such as headers, blowers and cold-air induction systems for all the contemporary engines- Dodge, Ford and Chevy. Remember when manufacturers would throw in optional parts ?

If I heard correctly, someone in...China, I think... slashed some thirty kids with a knife; I don't have all the details (please correct me if I'm wrong). It can and does happen anywhere. There are people in our world who have problems, issues, miswires, diseases or what have you and we will never be able to control them or the incidents they create on any scale. Things like this will continue to happen; it is a truly ugly part of life that is not at all acceptable yet we have no control over it. -

I agree. But keep in mind that when all-new kits of any subject are released, there will be griping and complaining, too- in some cases, rightfully so. As Alvin Lee once sang: "You can't win them all." I sometimes think that we older modelers would like to see reissues of golden oldies because those kits would be a way to connect with our younger years, especially when that reissue would be in an original-appearing box. Often, those older kits are less complex and easier to assemble than our contemporary new kits; that might be a contributing factor in the requests for those reissues.

It's an amalgamation of my first name and the first syllable of my last name; add the "ed" and it equals a state of mind in which I could often be found a few years ago(seriously). My avatar = the acronym for the club to which I belong on a tag for the state in which I can now be found. -
Very cool, nicely executed.

Really neat model; one of the few truly original ideas I've seen in a long time.

Touchy, Touchy Terms
johnbuzzed replied to James2's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
"Proactive". As in "We don't want to be a reactive organization; we want to be proactive in our efforts...". Why not just be "active"? Or, pre-approved"; as in those idiotic credit card applications. Everyone is pre-approved, unless one has already been approved. -
Really weird question
johnbuzzed replied to Joe Handley's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I've tested a few drugs and their effects on modeling over the years, particularly when I was younger... um, what was the question? -
Touchy, Touchy Terms
johnbuzzed replied to James2's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Rat rod is another one of those descriptive terms that has been mangled thru the last few years. Like NASCAR's "stock cars"... please, really? There was a time when the NHRA wanted to use the term "fuel coupe" for funny cars. Sounds cool, but not popular at all. I remember John Force once referred to his funny car as a "hot rod" on TV; to me, that seems to be exaggerating a bit but I guess it's the truth. -
D'oh! I picked up the most recent release before this current kit at a show last month; it had none of those parts and NO decals...bummer. I'll still build it up into a nice shelf model that will take me back to being 10 years old again...

Probably won't touch a model for awhile

After 37 years of marriage, I have learned that it is a compromise in all aspects. I don't make the chili too spicy and she doesn't make the tomato sauce too chunky. We went to two out-of-town model contests this year; they were overnight stays with some "shopping" thrown in. You gotta have an open mind and keep it open and you have to learn when to use tact and diplomacy. Good luck, Dave; I hope all goes well for you and your loved ones . -
1/25 Revell '70 Plymouth HEMI 'Cuda 2'n1
johnbuzzed replied to MachinistMark's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Whoa- I could use one of those non-Rallye dashboards for a project/"replica" of my 1:1 '73. I still kick myself in the butt for having sold it back in '85 or '86... -
1955 Cheverolet Nomad ,,,,which one?
johnbuzzed replied to gtx6970's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
IIRC, Revell did not make a '55 Nomad kit; AMT is the only one who did. The hood, tailgate and rear window do open and I think the exhaust is molded to the chassis- it's been a looooooooooooooong time since I built one.
