Are the Lindberg and AMT/Ertl both equipped with 455s? I'm not familiar... Either way, if you want to go a little "modern", you could modify a big four-barrel to look like a throttle body and add fuel injector lines to the intake runners.

Stacey David's Rat Roaster by : REVELL
johnbuzzed replied to Greg Myers's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I'll probably but one but I won't paint it green. I wonder if the "new" tires have any sidewall detail or will this be a case of licensing fees prohibiting that? -
Mopar cars that should be cast!
johnbuzzed replied to Green Duster's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Re: the K cars- look at what Carroll Shelby did with their derivatives- can you say "GLHS"? I'd like to see a Turbo Spirt R/T and a '67 Sport Fury convertible, and I'll certainly second or third the motion for a late '40's Power Wagon. Also, how about a late '40's Town and Country ragtop woody- so much classier than the '48 Ford (IMHO ). -
1/25 Revell '70 Plymouth HEMI 'Cuda 2'n1
johnbuzzed replied to MachinistMark's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Revell might sell more of these if they added a small-block to the kit; it could recreate a 273, 318, 340 or 360 with a few minor visible changes (a Slant Six is available in the Lindberg Belvedere or Coronet kits). A transmission option would be nice, too. And I would imagine that it should not be too difficult to add optional rear ends to this kit, too; some might be already available in other Revell kits. But I do hope that "we" don't go beating Revell if a particular detail isn't exactly perfect yet. Granted, this kit has been long awaited and "they" have had a lot of time to research and prep, but I don't think we're gonna see perfection of any type in any kit from any manufacturer. I'll buy the kit, foibles, flaws, faults and all. Thank you, Revell (and Tim Boyd). -
ROCKET VAN! Deals Wheels Flying VW Van. WIP 11-30-12
johnbuzzed replied to Ira's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Ira, the stuff you built for Car Model magazine 'way back was an inspiration for me and I'm glad to see you're still creating works of art. That is a neat project and thanks for sharing it with us. -
Yep, that looks good in the '32; with steelies and whitewall, perhaps?

2012 Dodge Charger - Riverdale Park, MD PD
johnbuzzed replied to miatamadman's topic in Diecast Corner
That's pretty cool. The Charger has much better body lines now. A good plastic kit would be most welcome. -
Nice original build! Even though I'm a "purist", I like it a lot.

Kit Building Then, and Now
johnbuzzed replied to Tom Setzer's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I remember building a kit during the course of a weekend as a kid, with little if any paint. As I got older, I recreated much of the Battle of Britain on my closet floor in 1/72 scale during the course of one summer. Later on, builds while in the Army averaged one weekend per, with paint. Things took longer as details were added, then I started to pay more attention and I no longer built models; I sat down and worked on models for several hours each evening, taking weeks, then gradually months to finish. Now, I have projects that I started years ago and boxed due to "overcomplicationitis" and I have tried to vaccinate myself against that for current and future builds. Even "box stock" builds can get intense... I build in my head and take notes while I'm at work for current and not-too-distant (hopefully) future projects. This past weekend, I fabricated a not-too-crude timing light for display with my '67 Charger and I was more happy with the way this small project turned out than with some of my bigger projects. I hope that soon I'll have the ability to detail-paint and assemble a snap kit in a weekend and be happy with it. -

johnbuzzed replied to camarofreak82_427's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Electronic technician since 1984. First with Grumman Aerospace, working with naval avionics and commercial "tools"; then twenty years provding tech support and customer service for Biodex Medical Systems ('til a layoff); now, production technician for nuclear medicine equipment at a company that shall go nameless... Before all that? Almost anything, including: perform surgery on dogs and cats, to drive a fork lift, to paint backhoes, to credit card collections, to stock clerk to soldiering... -
Three River Automodelers Show and Contest.
johnbuzzed replied to 3riverfan's topic in Contests and Shows
Congratulations, Rich! Doncha just love being pleasantly surprised? -
Yeah, me too, Rich, more that I would think. I was fortunate enough to be there for a few hours last year; we were up for a good friend's wedding and I had time to go before getting all dressed up. I went with my sons and grandson and I even got to judge. This year, we (yes, Emily and I) will be going to Atlanta that day- it was her idea, after we met Tom at the CKM NNL. Who knew? I do miss the big cup of 7-11 coffee and the accompanying early-morning (caffeine ) buzz that went with it; the excitement, the cameraderie and even the "work" involved with judging and registration and all that. I miss saying such things as "Yo, put that model down or I'll break your fingers!!! Oh, it's yours? Sorry...Hey, nice build!" I'm glad "our"' contest goes on so well after all these years. Take care of yourself, Rich. We'll see you again soon.

Styrene??? Really? This engine has got to be one of the most... beautiful scale replicas that I have ever seen and the thought that you're incorporating styrene in the build with all of that machined billet just boggles my mind. Please, don't take offense...I don't have the skills or equipment to produce such a work of art but I wonder why you chose to use styrene hex stock for bellhousing hardware. Did you consider using appropriately sized hex screw heads but decide against that for any reason or did you go with styrene to expedite the build?

Tom, how did you (what did you use to) plumb the turbos and what did you use for reference? That set-up looks even better in person.
-
Video (monitor) cable and mouse cable has good small gauge wire, too.
-
91% isopropyl alcohol works well as a stripper, too.

It was good seeing you again, Tom. We had a good time and we'll be there next year. Thanks for taking the pictures.

Are you sure it was this kit? I don't think it was around way back. Perhaps you're thinking of the old AMT '40 Ford kit.
-
We'll be there. I'm looking forward to my first event in a loooooooooooooooonnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnng time.

Does anyone know if that chassis will work with an original JoHan '69 Roadrunner body?
