  1. And here is a kind of tutorial I found. Note I am not associated with the product or vendor in any way and I have yet to try it. http://www.sculpt.com/technotes/Tech_Sheets/TECH_SHEET_Magic-Smooth.pdf Bill.
  2. It's Restorer Supplies. I have never done business with them before and cannot give a recommendation one way or another. I did ask for standard shipping and got charged $9.90 for priority. That may have been an error on their part or mine and I have put in an inquiry. In any case here is the URL: http://stores.restorersupplies.com/-strse-Epoxy-Putty-cln-Magic-Smooth/Categories.bok Bill.
  3. Thanks, Mark. I ordered some in "Natural", and also ordered some Magic Smooth. This is their looser two part product, with a less thick honey-like consistency for seam filling and such. Supposed to be a little like creamy peanut butter. I'll give that a try as well. Bill.
  4. Mark, Does color matter? I see that they have gray or white. Are the characteristics the same? Bill.
  5. I agree with prior posts. Having enough light is most important. Stabilization is second, so using a tripod or in-camera stabilization is important. I use a Canon Sx 10, which has a super macro in AV mode. It's not super duper, but it adds a bit to regular macro. This shot was done at F4, 1/60 second, hand held. 6. Here's the link to my Fotki page. http://public.fotki.com/Modlguy/mid-atlantic-nnl/ This is a picture of Bill Stillwagon showing how he built his custom Camaro. Not until I got home did I realize that I missed getting a shot of this outstanding model.
  7. Another terrific NNL put on by the MAMAS. Outstanding models and, as always, the chance to see our friends in the hobby and schmooze a little. Well done to Lyle and the members of the club.
  8. Add to that Doug Dempsey, builder of the "Double Charger" and the "Great One GTO". . I went to school with him back in the day and got back in touch with him last year. Ahead of his time in the 60's. Bill Barrett Member TSSMCC
  9. If you are Alex Forrester, congratulations, because you won the Junior class. Your plaque will be sent to you by the club secretary. Great work. Bill Barrett. TSSMCC.
  10. Charlie, I believe the toll on the Tappan Zee is $6.00, but it is charged going one way only, in your case going back home. The entrance fee for the show is $15.00 but there is no limit to how many cars you can bring in for that amount. You will need about a kazillion dollars for the vendors that will be there however, because if you're like me and most other modelers you'll want to buy everything at the show. Great stuff. See you on April 17. Bill Barrett.
  11. From the Count Down to 2011 GSL XXIII It starts at the NNL East 2010 with all the great friends.
  12. Gotta go with what everyone has said. My first trip was in '02. I had my 50th. birthday while there and Gregg sang happy Birthday to me. (He probably doesn't remember.) I've gone every year since. The camaraderie is definitely the hallmark of the GSL experience. As Chas said, there are no secrets in the hobby, and world class builders are happy to share their techniques with you. This should be on every modelers bucket list. I'll be there next year. (I'll be turning sixty. I hope somebody sings to me.) Bill Barrett TSSMCC.
  13. It was a great show. Here's a link to my Fotki album if you want to see more pictures. http://public.fotki.com/Modlguy/liars-contest-2009/ Bill Barrett TSSMCC
  14. No models, just modelers. Here's your chance to see what some of these guys look like. I never get as many shots as I'd like, so if I missed you or a club member send me a picture and I'll put it in the album. More importantly, if I mispelled your name, e-mail me at Modlguy@verizon.net and I'll correct it. Thanks to everyone who took time to stand for a shot. http://public.fotki.com/Modlguy/mid-atlantic-people/ Bill Barrett.
  15. Yeah, there's a connection. Take a look here. http://www.artbaxter.com/esoterica-pages/amt_kat-index.html Bill.
  16. So NASCAR would rather see no kits of their racers than receive smaller licensing fees. How does that enhance their product? Bill Barrett Tri-State Scale Model Car Club

  18. Mr. NNL East is turning 50. Have a great one, Tom. And Gregg, you probably don't remember, but when I turned 50 several years ago during GSL, you sang Happy Birthday to me. So I think you owe Tom a song as well. Bill Barrett Tri-State Scale Model Car Club
  19. Thanks. Do they still do one in Mount Holly? There was a model display associated with it a couple of years ago.
  20. Well, there are differences. NNL's are not judged, so no one is scrutinizing the models, picking them up, and verbally picking them apart. The people displaying are there to show their cars and get together with fellow modelers. They don't have to face criticism. It's relaxed. That's why NNL East got almost 1,000 visitors. As noted, what balloting there is at an NNL is limited. At NNL East there have been suggestions over the years to expand it to include various other categories, and these have always been rejected. But it is felt that the attendees like to cast a vote for the models that they LIKE. And that is the difference. It could be a Snap kit. If someone thinks it's tasteful or creative that person gets a vote. No one requires that the model meet any standard other than that the voter like it. And the displayers are OK with that. Bottom line is no one is intimidated to display at an NNL. Bring anything you want. Nobody will trash it. Nobody will put it down or say it isn't good enough. Thus: 1,200+ models on the tables. I won't argue with you, Harry, if you contend that this is no different than a contest. But I think the people who attend feel that it is. Please come out and see for yourself. We'd really be happy to have you attend.
  21. I didn't take pictures of any models at NNL East this year, just people. I wish I'd had time to take a lot more, but I got about forty-one shots. Thanks to everyone who allowed me to shoot, especially Gregg and Doug, who were busy photographing models for the magazine. http://s169.photobucket.com/albums/u220/Mo...%20East%202008/
  22. Gregg, You're going to give people the impression that the Friday night get-together was something other than the serious quiet discussion of modeling that I told my wife it was.
