  1. bit more work on the Starliner today including the first mockup without the interior.
  2. H Road Runner, Thanks for nice comments.. The wet greasy grime is a mixture is a mixture of artist oils 'Mars Black" and some scrap booking embossing powder. hope this helps Ian
  3. Thanks for the positive comments so far guys... Time to start paint and weathering. Pretty happy the way the chassis turned out. and the body is good so far. Lots of BMF to do..waiting for my order to arrive... thanks for looking Ian
  4. I must confess, I have been dabbling in the dark side..and doing some military modelling for a bit of a change..... but I soon got bored with that and realised my true heart was in building cars....so.. Ive gotten back into the Dirty Thirty. Here's the first mock up... all the white pieces ( except the engine block and heads) have been scratch-built including the complete intake manifold with ( Detail master Trumpets) I'm happy with the stance and the way things are fitting. All the little jobs to do now before breakdown for paint. thanks for looking Ian Sorry about the missing pics in the start of this thread..changed Photo Hoster. I will try and reinstate them
  5. Thanks for all the replies guys. Fat Brian, my LHS had the Lindberg kit in stock so I'm all sorted now. many thanks for the info. cheers Ian
  6. Hi Whilst i wait for some parts for my 61 Starliner, I thought Id start another project..( like I REALLY need to start another one !! :-) going to build this.. I have all the parts to build it except the wheels. I'd like to ask does anyone know a kit or a resin after-market supplier that would be able to source similar wheels from..? any help most appreciated. cheers Ian
  7. Blueoval92, I fitted the firewall to the pan then added a filler strip as per the 1:1 car. Dont wrap the ends down like I did..leave them loose and it will naturally fill the gap. then when I added the inner fender strips it decreased the gaps even more. When I push the pan up and glue it in, the gaps will disappear, hope that helps. Looking forward to see how yours come out. cheers Ian
  8. Awesome build mate..very nice I built the Filthy last year.. I weathered mine as well...a very cool car Happy to help with any weathereing questions you've got. Ive got heaps of reference pics if you need them. cheers Ian
  9. woohoo.. This interweb thingy is amazing! I couldn't make out the sign-writing on the side of my reference pic, so went searching for whatever I could find on 61 Starliners to hopefully stumble across something..... well..after about 4 hours I lucked out..!! :-) I found the car and the Facebook restoration page for it. !! https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.163480347022431.29765.119208321449634&type=3 Hopefully I hear back and can get some more pics.. It'll make my model so much more accurate. Ian
  10. Very cool...like it alot!
  11. Hey Blueoval92..Brake cylinder is out of my parts box, I have no idea what kit its from cheers Ian
  12. Weather here has been rubbish so got a few hours in the 'Man cave' today.. Replaced the brake cyclinder..Much happier with this one. Since my reference pic looks like and abandoned car I wanted it to look like the headlights were missings so.. I went to the parts box for a radiator and shroud. I didnt like what I found so made my own, thanks for looking.. Ian
  13. really wasnt happy with the brake cylinder..so did another one. I think its much better. Ian
  14. Blueoval92..splitting the grille wasn't hard at all. I made a few soft passes with the back of my blade until a nice straight groove appeared, then gently added pressure and made lots of passes til it split. I made some more progress today. Added edges to the engine bay as per a 1:1 car. Then added some detail to the firewall.. Not sure about the brake cylinder yet. The wire looks a little outa scale. Probably redo it. Thanks for all the positive comments so far cheers Ian
  15. Bit more progress Gave the door panels a bit of depth by adding some styrene to replica the real ones. I had to trim the screen down quite a bit to allow the dash to fit up snugly. I then added some small strips to hold the windscreen in place whilst i test fitted the dash and interior. I then wanted to replicate the hanging front bumpaer as per my reference pic, but the grill and bumper were moulded as one piece. Nothing to do but split them Ive smoothed the quages and opened up where a radio would have been, then fabricated a cover panel that will get painted Aluminium later. cheers Ian
  16. Hi all, thanks for the positive comments, maybe I am heading in the right direction after all!! Some more progress pics.. Ive smoothed the firewall to allow better detailing later, Ive added a filler panel between the firewall and body to reduce an obvious gap then I've built inner door panels as race cars don't have interiors.. Since I don't have any other pics to work from, Im taking a bit of artistic licence with the interior. :-) thanks for looking.
  17. 62Rebel, Thanks for the heads up on the rear screen curve. Thats an early pic I posted, Yeah i knew there was a difference and have altered it to match.
  18. The 61 Galaxie pan is rubbish, so I went with the 60 Starliner pan with a bit of cutting and sanding. Not too bad a fit really. I smoothed off the cast floor mats and fitted the firewall. To be continued.......
  19. Hi Ive got a soft spot for building old weathered drag cars, so when i stumbled across this image I realised Id just found my next project! Little did I realise at the time that no-one makes a 61 Starliner, so I figured I'd make my own. so..taking the AMT 60 Starliner and the AMT 61 Galaxie kits I decided a roof swap was in order giving me a nice 61 Starliner to work with Although the pic doesnt show wether the bonnet is off or on..I went with cutting it out..to show some more detail later. I havent decided to put in an engine or not. to be continued...
  20. Just a small update. built a Magneto for the Hemi. My first attempt at using alloy tubing, then I used CorelPaint to create and print my own decal. ( another first ) I'm quite chuffed really
  21. "The stance is low and the butt end is wide..." Sounds like you're describing my Ex-wife !! ;-)
  22. Hi, I'm watching this build with interest as I'm doing one as well. does this pic help re Stars color.? Ian
  23. Hiya, Thanks for the heads up on the rear wheels, DoubleD. Ive ordered the Tommy Ivo Front Engined dragster as it has the same rear wheels I need. If they don't work out I'll check out Resin ones. Dave Hales from the S&S Race Team has helped a bit with the front end, saying it was coil-overs with hairpins. Ive asked him to confirm wether it was blown or injected and or a magneto used. Ive worked the hood sides to clear the Zoomies and coil-overs Scratchbuilt the whole frontend. and built the gas tank slow progress, but we;re getting there. cheers Ian
  24. Hi DoubleD After your comment regarding the engine combo I thought Id do some research on the class letters on the car. Google is supposed to be my friend but it sure took some finding!! :-) According to Draghub.com. "The designation F/C does not mean Funny Car, but “Fuel Coupe”, as in AA/FC, A/FC, BB/FC, TA/FC, or EA/FC. A – means it uses Nitro Methane as fuel, B – means it uses Methanol as fuel, single letter means the car is normally aspirated injected, double letter means the engine is supercharged (including turbocharging)" So according to its A/FA lettering it should be a Fuel injected Nitro Altered. Thanks for making me do the research, Im happier with the build direction n ow.. cheers Ian
  25. Hi DoubleD, Yeah, I wasnt sure either what combo it was running without the Fenders. Ive asked Wanda Blanchet from the Filthy Forty Tribute Team to find out what she can about the car. I can easily build a different engine combo. cheers Ian
