  1. I lowered the body a lttle bit too. It fits okay but I'll need to do a little trimming inside the body around the rear tires. I'll get started on the engine next.
  2. A few updates on my Nova. I ended up rebuilding the rear of the chassis because it wasn't going to work the way I originally built it. I copied the rear of a Polar Lights frame because I couldn't find a good photo of a Logghe chassis and that didn't work out well. Anyway I replaced everything behind the roll cage plus moving the whole chassis forward a couple scale inches and lowering it the same amount. I made some coilovers and the required mounting points. The chassis can now sit on all four wheels.
  3. Outstanding work! I wish I could see it for real.
  4. Well done. I spent many years working on 1:1 late models. If I had seen a picture of this one somewhere without knowing it was a model I would have figured it was a real one. That's what its all about.
  5. The basic engine is from Race Motor Replicas. I'll be using parts from Pro Tech and Competition Resins too.
  6. I don't have the knowledge, talent, or patience to work with brass. Besides that I make a lot of mistakes and have to redo stuff and its easier to fix plastic. The frame rails and front axle have brass rod inserted to make them stiffer.
  7. The rear axle is one that I resin cast from a Dukes of Hazzard kit. I did a few modifications to use it in this car. The front axle is scratchbuilt. Coilovers are my next project then I'll fit the big block Chevy.
  8. A little more done. I have the rear and front axles fabricated and in place. It's not going too bad so far considering this car was a pile of tubing and parts a few weeks ago.
  9. That engine is awesome Charlie. I can't wait to see it at Model Fest.
  10. Finally got a chance to do a little on my Nova. It doesn't look like much but spent some time drawing the frame to scale and building a frame jig. I have the basic frame built and I've determined where I want the body to sit. The frame is similar to a Logghe Stage 1 chassis with a few minor changes. This funny car isn't going to represent any real cars so I'm building as I would have back in the day. I'll hang the suspension next and then start on the engine. No hemi for this car. It wil be powered by a big block Chevy.
  11. Hey Rom, I thought you might like to see this Daytona that's running Pro Mod at the Gatornationals this weekend.
  12. Looks great Charlie. I can see I need to get some braided line from you too.
  13. Thanks Chuck. I sent you an email. I'll send you pictures when I get off shift Tuesday morning.
  14. I remember that car well. You did an excellent job on it. It was really funny that everybody overlooked the real reason that car was fast. Those roofs started showing up on a lot of cars.
  15. I'll be in there Lord willing. I live not far away in Lakeland. I hope to see some of the builders from this forum as it would be great to see some of the cars and their builders in person. I got room for a couple people to crash if needed ( no extra beds, only a couch or room for an air mattress ). I also have a nice workshop in case anybody has a tragedy and needs to make repairs.
  16. I built my first model ( 1940 Ford coupe ) in 1964. I can still remember my dad taking me to Torbeson's Drug Store in my hometown of Cadillac,Mich. I think I picked it because of the picture of the car on the side of the box. Dennis Doty is one of my inspirations as we're from the same hometown. I remember seeing the models at the same contest that Dennis mentioned and I wanted to build cars as nice as the ones I saw there. Augie Hiscano was a real insperation as well. He could build the coolest stuff from scratch. Several years ago the IPMS nationals were in Orlando, so I entered a '53 Ford short track race car. I had done a lot of scratch building as best as my limited talent will allow. I ended up getting 2nd in my class which I thought was pretty cool . But the best thing that happened was Augie stopped to look at my car and asked a lot of questions about it. He picked it up and looked at it and said "nice work". That then and still does mean more to me than any trophy I could ever pick up. I've only been on this forum for a short time. Charlie from Pro Tech got me to check it out. Charlie makes some great parts that inspire me to build something I can put them on. I haven't spent a whole lot of time on here, but so far Rommell, dude you do some nice work. I won't ever have the talent to build cars like that, but I like seeing the work of someone that can.
  17. I don't know if anybody helped you with the passenger door latch yet, but here's a couple pictures I took of Pat Musi's car yesterday at Bradenton. It's the first chance I've had to see pro mod cars live other than on TV. I'm still a funny car guy, but those pro mods are awesome. Most of ttem had latches on both doors.
  18. Thanks for the comments and for looking at my car.
  19. This is an old A/ Dragster I built for a 50s club project. It's a combination of scratch built and parts box stuff.
  20. Nice work on your Nova.
  21. Nice work. I'm always awed by anyone that can work with brass.
  22. Thanks for the comments.
  23. Thanks for the comments. The Nova body is from Flashpoint Motorsports. I think you can also get one through Slixx. It is marketed as a 1969/1970 body.I think the body can be used for '69 to early 70s funny cars. It depends on whose car your building. It doesn't look like Jungle Jim's early Nova but it does look like Randy Wall's or Bobby Wood's. This one won't be a replica build anyway. I mostly like to build cars that are like something I would have raced back in the day.
