  1. I haven't heard anything about the center nut style rims for nascar....I don't think they will go that way. my opinion is based on what the series has done historically....the rules as they are is that you have to have 5 lugs and they must be tight. going to a center lug (ala indy car and F-1) would speed up the pit stops. going to a center lug would increase the risk as I think it would create a very unsafe pit road.
  2. one way is to paint your wheel, then get a small mirror or pane of glass...."paint" the glass with a thin coat of the color of your choice....holding the wheel flat in relation to the glass, press it down and lift rapidly, but smoothly and it will leave a very thin color line around the outside of the rim....for the inner "ring", get a round sanding stick and lightly sand a thin line around the inner edge where you see the ring is...then you can use paint, or in my case a sharpie, and color this think line.....gives you a good realistic look.....don't forget that if your doing a "race used" rim to wash it with flat black (thinned to just give a hint of color) to represent the brake dust..... just my way of doing things!
  3. I don't think so, because the laser testing uses a wheel plate that is mounted like a dirt car uses to keep mud out of the wheel. I haven't seen this kind of stripe on any of the wheels, so I couldn't even begin to speculate why or what it's for (if anything). I've researched Aero and Basset rims and they don't show any with the wide florescent stripe.....but! if you look close, the 24 team's rims have the same wide stripe in blue...oh...and if you look, these are Aero rims....you can tell by the arrow shaped decal on the rim....I believe NASCAR only allows Aero or Basset rims, I don't think any use American Racing.....
  4. so many things have to come together for any deal to be made. a common plate for the chassis is really a good idea, but differences from one manufacturer to the next (unlike indy car) and what the chassis will be used for probably mean that 3 or 4 different chassis will have to be designed, (short, intermediate, super speedway and road course chassis are all different in design). common core engines won't fly. manufacturers will fight against that.... again, this is all supposition based on what has been "heard" floating around. NASCAR has done a lot to improve racing, specially when it comes to safety....and really, I have to ask...what difference does it make about who builds or doesn't build the chassis....its the body itself that defines Ford, Chevy or Toyota....I do agree that it needs to go back to a more "stock" appearing body versus the slab side....but then going backwards will only increase the negative safety that today's race cars have....you can't use a unibody that current production models have on a super speedway at 200MPH.... Just my opinion!!
  5. aero wheels.....used by almost all the teams....shop tires usually have a groove in the to keep them off the track...there are two companies that make rims for the top three series....Bassett and Aero...although next year may see different kinds because nascar is going to an 18inch rim versus the current 15inch one...
  6. That? Its a Mercadodicatapontabendachev......saw it rolling dow the road one day with 3 guys with a weedwhacker pushing it....
  7. you and me both ironman63! I've flown all over the world when I was active duty in the Air Force (Security Police), and I hate every minute of it...if I can't drive there, I ain't going!
  8. cool! thanks! have to look into building one myself!
  9. love the build....very clean! but I have to ask (i'm not a straight-line racer...I love to go in circles!)...my understanding is that turbo's are operated off the exhaust gases as they would spin it up faster than pulling the RPM's off the crank....but in your build, your pulling the turbo power off the front of the motor. is this normal?
  10. absolutely! you never forget....a friend happened to be a med-tech (Air Force) and responded to a C-130 crash that took the lives of 18 (if I remember correctly) airman in Georgia....he and I are close friends and he still has bad dreams of walking around the crash site identifying bits and pieces....20 years in the Air Force and I hate, simply hate, flying....and it is one of those things that you NEVER forget....
  11. love looking at your work dustin....I love seeing a nicely laid down paint job....your painting is flawless!!
  12. awesome work! nice and clean build....only one comment and NOT a complaint!...have you thought about slicing the decals along the hood lines or the roof flap lines? it would give it more of a realistic look....but you need to use a decal solvent to soften them to "fit into the grooves.....I noticed this on some of your other builds...which by the way....and also very cool! just a question, not a complaint!!!
  13. any plane crash is a big deal...maybe in the sense that they all exited the plane and are ok....but no plane crash is a good one....witnessed crashes, searched for downed aircraft, seen the aftermath....none of it's good...thankful the family and pilots are ok.
  14. great looking build! have to ask...where did you get the master cut off switch or did you make it yourself? I've been looking for one...old tired eyes just can't seem to work that small to make one! :)
  15. what!?!?! no time to do custom parts!?!?! what's the world coming to!?!?! only joking Ron....you do some of the best work that I've run across when trying to get more accuracy in my models...thanks for all you do! I will be getting more parts from you!!
  16. passed by Garlits Museum this past weekend....couldn't stop tho.....pass bby there all the time going to florida...BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH nice hotrod!!
  17. jsut a minor suggestion....back then, it was all stickers for lettering and such.....I would have taken a few of the fender decals and ripped them to make them seem like they were pealing off....same with the door and rear quarter panel...you weathering is spot on! just a suggestion to bring even more life to it... love the way that you have the paint pealing away from the body....
  18. most are an aluminum color. maybe a bit darker and steel...very few paint the engines any more. At least the ones I've seen haven't been painted. Model Masters line is best!
  19. dropping the suspension can be made several ways and we all have our "secrets" about how to do it. some cut a little here and there until they get the look right....some drill holes here and there....some take a whack at it with a buzz saw and hope for the best! only thing that I can really say is to look at it in mock-up, and see where you need to adjust a piece or drill it or cut it until you get the look and feel that you like. my wife says that I can't leave a model alone and "just build it"....just do your thing to get the look you want....when I finish a model, truthfully, it's for my pleasure. I don't enter contests or post a lot of pictures, but I do love to build them!!
  20. nah....it's all bout what you want to make it look good....as a former racer, yes, it's 4 inches at rest, but then again, if you really look at the cars at rest, the front tires are "leaned" out at the top and that looks silly on a model. The chassis and suspension even itself out at speed and that's the look that most of us like to see in a finished model. looking authentic has it's merits, but getting that low to the ground, mean look...drop that front down to almost touching the ground! I'm not blasting you dwc43...its all about what the modeler wants to see in a finished model....as someone said on here or another board: instructions are one mans opinioin of how he wants the model to be be....or something like that!
  21. astroracer.....are they in 1/24 or 1/25 scale? the tires that you have on the wagon are exactly like the tires I ran on at the asphalt track I raced at!
  22. Here's one for the 3D printers and other after-marketers out there.....I raced a kart for a few years on a paved track here in Georgia. Did pretty well finishing fourth in the points a couple of seasons....missed the championship by 19 points when the hauler broke down on the way to the track..... my question is simple.....who wants to take on the task of making a current type racing kart to scale (1:24/1:25)? I bet that it would sell.....I figure it would be easy to do because almost all of the things required are on line to scale down. parts? chassis, four tires, seat, steering wheel, one cylinder motor and a body...as there are literally thousands of racers out there in the competitive world of oval track kart racing, I think it would be a seller.... I haven't seen anyone take up this type of model, not have they looked into legend cars or bandelero's....which I think is a crime as these are grassroots type racing.....look at Chase Elliott....I was in the pits working on our race cars and karts when he was racing with us in legends and late models....and see where he is now? I think it's a missed opportunity that should be looked at.... I'd love to build a bunch of them to match what my son and I raced!! Last thing....I'm still looking for a four cylinder ford engine (complete) because that's what we had in our mini-stocks.....
  23. why dream it? I've sent stuff to race shops in the past and gotten answers.....send a couple of pics to Richard Childress....who knows? he might sign one and send it back with a word of thanks....or he might just look at it and saw "BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH! we need to do this!"...take a look at rcrracing.com
  24. I like it....wife says that I can't build a model without cutting it to pieces, gluing something odd to it, painting it an outlandish color....or simply messing it up from what the box looks like....that's me....a modeling outlaw! love the color...but really, shine it up....only way to go!
  25. adding my two cents in.....great looking build....nice and clean....the added extras really make the whole thing pop....give yourself a pat on the back...nicely done!!!
