  1. Started around 8, ran through my teen years and petered out around the time I turned 19 or so and real life obligations like WORK I ran out some custom done police models through my mid-20's, and finally really got back into the hobby a year or so ago...I'll turn 34 in July.
  2. Well considering it will probably be mid-summer before the 2011 Police Chargers start hitting the streets, there's plenty of time to enjoy these kits. Especially since other than the taillight and rear trim change (went from saying DODGE on the LHS of the trunk and CHARGER on the RHS to just saying CHARGER on the LHS) this car will make any 2006-2010 car. With currently available decals you can make... Federal Agencies Amtrak Police FBI Police DHS - U.S. Border Patrol DHS - U.S. Customs & Border Patrol (dark blue stripe) National Park Service Ranger Department of Veterans Affairs Police (only select hospitals) U.S. Secret Service Uniformed Division Police State Agencies Alaska State Police Alabama DPS - Highway Patrol Arkansas State Police California Highway Patrol (Recruitment, CVE, & regular patrol) Delaware State Police Florida Highway Patrol Georgia State Patrol Idaho State Police Illinois State Police Indiana State Police Iowa State Patrol Kansas Highway Patrol Massachusetts State Police Michigan State Police Mississippi State Highway Safety Patrol Montana Highway Patrol Nebraska State Patrol Nevada Highway Patrol New Hampshire State Police New York State Police North Carolina Highway Patrol (black over silver, and silver over black) North Dakota State Patrol Ohio State Highway Patrol (10 test cars in 2008) Oklahoma State Highway Patrol Oregon State Police Pennsylvania State Police (5 test cars in 2010) Rhode Island State Police South Carolina Highway Patrol South Dakota Highway Patrol Texas Department of Public Safety Utah Highway Patrol Wisconsin State Police Virginia State Police Wyoming Highway Patrol *NJ, CT & WV also use Chargers, but they are all unmarked units* Colorado State Patrol issued a cease and desist to Bill Bozo on his decals, I'm not sure about JBOT, since I know he actually had a letter of authorization from them at one point (he still shows them for sale on his website...I'd grab some while you still can). JBOT also has a variety of Canadian agencies that use Chargers. Municipal Police/County Sheriff Agencies Broward County (FL) Sheriff (white car) Columbus (OH) Police Dallas (TX) Police (white car) Houston (TX) Police Montgomery County (MD) Police Montgomery County (MD) Sheriff New York City Police Los Angeles (CA) Police Philadelphia (PA) Police Scott (LA) Police Trenton (NJ) Police Washington D.C. Metropolitan Police I was also thinking about the idea of Lindberg releasing the lightbars separately...all you need to do is get ahold of those of us who are getting the "blank" kits. A case (turns out to be a dozen per Lindberg's usual case count) will yield 96 lightbars, and only 12 of them are going to be used (if that considering slick-tops). So I expect a "black market" for the lightbars will develop on eBay. I know personally once I have multiples of the same few lightbars I'll mail 'em out to whoever wants one or two of the others.
  3. Get the blank white ones and paint 'em yourself! As for the idea earlier that Jeff bought and paid for a run, that seems like a giant gamble seeing is how those of us who pre-ordered were never charged until now. Wonder how many people still wanted to get them three years later since the economy took a thorough dumping on so many people.
  4. Well in all fairness Nick I posted the same time you did, yours just got posted ahead of mine.
  5. Sewing needle... Not be confused with the ill-named knitting needle
  6. Jeff Halpern over at Police Car Models.com is where I saw it. He should know better than anyone since he has 3 year old pre-orders and someone who shall remain nameless that nags him every 60-90 days about them.
  7. Not only do they have all the modern high-tech cop goodies, but they're a fairly complete (read no snap-tite curbside here)kit too, the civi-versions were like 155 parts. A case is 6 @ $20...$120 isn't going to break me, I spend more than that for food at truck stops during the week.
  8. Shut up no they aren't... O.K. so maybe they are, but until I have one in my hands, and/or see one in someone elses hands here on the board I refuse to believe this myth, this legend is finally coming to fruition. Wonder if this means I have to cover my pre-order on the case of Blank white ones...
  9. Went to the only Hobby Lobby I know of that has on-site truck specific parking (Laredo, TX) and got the current issue of the Revell 1941 Chevy P/U and an Aoshima Mercedes-Benz SL63 AMG (40% coupon goodness). Waiting on a 4 pack of pick-up truck kits from eBay gotta make the wife head over and check the P.O. Box tomorrow.
  10. I got scraped by the Western edge of this storm in Wyoming last night...you all can have it, I've never been so glad to be in Oregon I'll enjoy the 50 degree sunny day tomorrow, let me know how deep that snow gets!
  11. I have more kits downstairs than I'm willing to admit that have completely assembled engines...and Ooooo SHIIIIINEY...this thing is in the way, I'll put it back in the box and finish it later.
  12. Open - Complete, some parts off the trees?
  13. So what you're saying is that your builds are done by chicken obsessed creepy little girls?
  14. Well for me the vast majority of my pre-existing kit collection came from carefully orchestrated bribery from my parents during high school. My mom somewhere read you should pay your kids about $5 for "A"s to motivate them. Well you know what else was about $5-7 in the early 90's. So instead of money I parlayed it into 4 trips a year (H.S. was orientated around 9 week grading periods) to Trumbull Camera & Hobby a year. (As a side note in the late '90's they dropped the hobby part, and tried to go solo camera store...that lasted 2 years and the closed...pwn'd). So for those 100+ kits, I don't have a dime tied up in them... My mom started to wonder if her plan was a good one once the kits reached the ceiling from the old kitchen table I built on in the basement. In my defense it was a drop ceiling While I did build quite a bit of those "bribe" kits, obviously a lot more survived into a few moves around Ohio and then into a storage locker for 7 years. Now they have seen the light of day again in my basement. I have started to trade off the "I have no idea why I bought this" kits, but the rest I would actually like to build. Sure I have a 14 1/2 year supply of models, and I'm still buying new kits to boot, but as Mike pointed out a few posts up it's not a boat, jetski, ATV, RV/Camper, or a 1:1 money pit "restoration". Although I've limited myself to getting truly new (or at least new-to-me) kits, and filling in stuff I built (read - ruined) as a teenager. For the guys who have multiples of the same kit (at least for me) it tends to be "build one of what this kit is" and then the rest are... 1) Variation base...maybe a 6cyl Duster, or a base model Biscayne... 2) Base Kit...I'm guilty of this...I have 24 Lindberg Crown Vics...which will eventually be 24 different police cars. NASCAR builders are especially guilty of this too. I have to believe there are close to 500 decals sheets floating around, but they only made maybe 2 dozen kit variations (not counting limited/collector/50th Anniversary editions) of 90's-present cars. 3) Donor Kit...either a new chassis/drivetrain for an older annual/reissue or underpinnings for a resin project.
  15. Merry Christmas to ME! The GTO & Impala are courtesy of my Mom & Dad's gift of CASH! The Starliner I picked up as a bribe from my wife to go do the grocery shopping and get her Chinese food.
  16. The Impala and Charger are both built in Ontario, Canada.
  17. OoooOOOoooo I like that shade of blue!!
  18. Chris there's no need to withdraw really, this build goes through the end of 2011. I would hope whatever curve ball life has tossed you way isn't going to effect you for the entire year. Ditto made me do a double-take!
  19. Sounds like things are just cycling around to me. Afterall I can point you to any number of "Blizzard of 19xx" here in Pittsburgh during the 40's & 50's...then the big snows seemed to go away until we got that 28 inches at one time last March. To me Global Warming isn't a political issue as much as common sense. How can I possibly believe some forecast of what's allegedly going to happen in 50 years, when my local weather guy can't even forecast 3 days in advance correctly? I dunno exactly where we spun into a "worst thing that ever happened to ME" as being the yardstick of measurement. I mean if the science is correct all of the continents were once attached to one another, everything was covered in ice, and then the majority of the South West was well under water. Why aren't we actively searching for a solution for when the continents finally drift far enough to run into each other again? We measly humans like to think we're so important, but in the grand scheme of things one of those super volcanoes could sneeze tomorrow and we'll just be fossils in a few years.
  20. That's not snow, that's ice. Yeah there's a dose of snow on the road, but I'm betting there's a 1/4 in or more of ice underneath of it. Anyone who deals with that in the winter knows that snow isn't slippery, heck the way to get up that hill would be to drive on the snow that hasn't been touched. Also not riding your brakes backwards in a total panic would be helpful as well...
  21. Well now I clearly see that while I'm repossessing your build desk TV, I'm gonna have to take a few shelves too. Hoarding all the good stuff!!
  22. Ian, The Lindberg JGC kit represents a '93-'95 model.
  23. I bought 2 cases of the Lindberg Crown Victoria during the first production runs, but that was 10-12 years ago, when a Lindberg case (12 kits) only cost $120. There's nothing out there currently that peaks my interest enough to have more than one kit at a time of right now...if Lindberg were to ever ship the '06 Charger Police kit, or anyone were to do an '11 Charger Police, '11 Caprice Police, or '12 Taurus Police kit then I might reinspect my purchasing trends. Law Enforcement modeling (like NASCAR) is all about having "blanks" to put decals onto...I also bought I guess what would be 2 cases of the Revell Caprice (since I got 12, and Revell cases are 6) 6 PD, 6 Fire/Taxi when they were on clearance at Hills (anyone else remember Hills Department Stores) for $3 a piece.
  24. I got a new sweatshirt from the vollie fire department my M-i-L sponsors via her regular patronage at their club (read private bar), which is cool cause it's the only piece of apparel they sell I hadn't got yet. I got several pair of flannel lounge/pajama pants and two great "anti-Christmas" shirts from my F-i-L/Step M-i-L. One is red and says Bah Humbug and the other is green and is the Grinch's face. My wife and I exchange goofy little stuff this year. I got her Sex and the City 2 DVD, and I got the WoW (World of Warcraft) Cataclysm Expansion a few weeks ago. My 8 year old split between us, "Santa", and 3 sets of grandparents could open a Toys 'R Us in her bedroom tonight! We got some $$$ from those associated people and my parents as well. But oddly enough my parents gave us cash individually this year, usually they've been getting us gift cards to Lowe's or Home Depot, and I figured there'd be another one with a nursery to build. But I was pleasantly surprised with a cool, crisp $50. Since we each got separate money, I'm taking MY money, and MYSELF to the LHS on Monday and getting myself something nice for Christmas before it get's stolen and deposited and spent on something sensible like the phone bill or groceries
