  1. On Donn Yost's video he sprays enamel thinned with lacquer thinner recoats within 30 seconds of each other, and with great results I might add. Does this work with thinned acrylic paints or thinned lacquer paints? Are recoats using these able to be sprayed just as fast without waiting 15-20 minutes between?
  2. It came with red seat decals, so I guess I'll bite the bullet and buy.
  3. Is the filter the type that you wash and re-use, or is it disposable? Is is a stanfard size filter I would find at a bigbox store? Do you use this indoors? I planned on my basement workshop as it has access to a window that opens also. I use acrylics 90% of the time.
  4. Is THIS any good? Airflow is 3 cubic feet per minute...is that ok?
  5. Going to take a stab, and say the top left and right are dashboard lights, and the top middle is a compass. No idea about the bottom.
  6. I sprayed Testors one coat wet look over Tamiya X13 acrylic with no problems.
  7. I believe that car did a lap at the Indy 500 a couple weeks ago, right after the anthem.
  8. Can any canned clear be decanted an airbrushed? I'm assuming they don't need to be thinned... But I they do new thinning what would I use?
  9. Curious to which type of clear I should use for a 59 Cadillac. I used Duplicolor gray sandable primer, and a few airbrushed coats of Tamiya X-13 acrylic Metallic (thinned with lacquer thinner). I have Future, but want something that is stronger and can be wet sanded and polished. Should I use a Duplicolor brand, or a model car brand? Please give make and type as I am clueless to this. Thanks
  10. Is there one primer that you guys use that works for all types of paints? What does primer require to thin for an airbrush?
  11. Thanks for to input guys. I bought a can of dupli-color today and noticed its acrylic lacquer. What type of primer should I use? ? It bubbled on test spoons with acrylic primer. I also could not get a very smooth finish. I solved one of my issues: regular lacquer thinner thins Tamiya X13. It laid down a very nice finish.
  12. Not new to painting model cars, but new to painting model cars that result in a really nice finish. I've moved from spray cans to a cheap dual action airbrush. It works great, but I'm still new to the actual different types of paint, how to mix each, etc. I have a few questions: 1. It appears Testors enamel (I decanted and air brushed) takes eons to dry. Is it best to let it dry in the sun all day, or in an air conditioned house? I put down at least 4 coats which might be why it's taking so long. In hindsight I should have laid down 2 heavier coats, but this was my first airbrushing and it came out pretty nice. 2. Does gloss black enamel leave a better shine than gloss black acrylic, after both have been polished? 3. I bought a small jar of Tamiya X-13 Acrylic Metallic Blue and cant figure out how to thin it (don't have any Tamiya thinner). I tried 91% alcohol, mineral spirits, Testors acrylic thinner, all to no avail. The problem is the metallic pigment is pretty gunky and leaves a bad finish. Even un-thinned, I had trouble getting it to mix well. 4. If I wanted a dark blue metallic finish, or maybe a dark blue pearl finish, without using metallic/pearl blue paint, how would I go about doing that? Is it a 2 or 3 step process. 5. How many coats do you guys lay down on each model body? And what paint are you using? Do some paints require more coats? I'm familiar with the wet sanding process, polishing, etc. But I need help with paints.
  13. How should I go about reproducing this checkered pattern for this 1960 Impala? Stumped.
  14. I too have had horrible results with Testors lately. That was until I bought an airbrush. I decant a little each time I need to paint, and the results are now flawless.
  15. So I went and spent a whopping $11.00 on the Harbor Freight airbrush, and it's probably the best $11.00 I've ever spent. With a 20% coupon, I spent $17.00 on the double action brush and the hose. It's smooth, paints nicely, and perfect for me as a beginner.
  16. I'd set it lower to maybe 15. I'm new to airbrushing as well, and am learning.
  17. I've been researching airbrushes and found some no name, double action airbrushes on ebay for $30 and under. Anyone have any experience with these asian made airbrushes? I know you get what you pay for, but are these any good? How about the harbor freight double action?
  18. I didn't get as detailed as I had hoped, but it's done...for now. Noticed after I took the pics that the side mirror came off.
  19. I do know that %99.999 of printers dont print white, other than alps printrs.
  20. I think he only sells from his website.
  21. Anyone know which model Porsche it's based on? I think it's the 356b or 356c but not sure. Regards
  22. I own a Sherline Lathe with the optional milling attachment, as well as a Harbor Freight Micro Mill. The difference between the two is night and day. Sherline is very well made, very accurate, and super smooth...think Honda Accord. The harbor Freight is the exact opposite, but is more affordable, think Ford Pinto. Do a google search for MIT Machinist Video. The website has a free machining tutorials...good ones even. Also check out the Home Shop Machinist BBS forum.I have a ton of links I'll post later for you.
