Harbor Freight Airbrush?
sportandmiah replied to SuperStockAndy's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
For $7.99 it's a decent beginner airbrush. But it is a cheap knockoff of a Badger. Might I suggest this: http://www.harborfreight.com/deluxe-airbrush-kit-95810.html It's on sale this weekend I believe for $16.00, plus use a 20% coupon and its cheaper. I have the double action as it was my first airbrush and it's fine. Great to learn with. But I now use a Paasche H. -

Just save the photo to your device, and show it to the cashier. They'll either scan it or hand type it in. -
After they were chopped, both bumpers were filled with styrene, glued, puttied, and Mr. Surfaced and primed with duplicolor grey.

I found this at the local model show last weekend for $2.00, and although I would never buy it from a store, for $2.00 I figured why not. The front bumper in stock form in horrendously large and sticks out too far. Same with the back. I decided to chop them and shorten their depth.

I grew tired of having to unscrew (with wrench) the small #8-32 setscrew in my Paasche every time I disassemble to clean. I replaced the small 1/8th screw with a 3/8th #8-32 setscrew and a small knurled brass knob with #8-32 thread. To assemble, install the setscrew and tighten as normal. Apply a little loctite to the knurled knob, and screw onto the setscrew. Back it off a turn so the knob doesn't rub against the airbrush. Allow the loctite to dry overnight. $3.00 at Lowes.

Food Dehydrators & Paint Dryers
sportandmiah replied to JayVee's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
It seems the speediest form of paint drying technology is a food dehydrator. Has anyone used a small toaster oven? Is there a difference? A toaster might use more wattage...the one below has temp controls that go from 70-250 or something in that range. -
I follow his builds on slotforum...amazing cars.

Hello, just wanted to introduce myself as a Moderator. I enjoy this website immensely but am turned off at times by the bickering. Please PM me with any problems you may have as I am here to help , not harass. Anywho, here's a 1/32 Strombecker Lotus 40 body I bought on eBay awhile ago for pennies. Although old, the body was in really good shape but not painted at all. I used Tamiya red if memory serves. The windshield was made out of plastic from a package. Doug

Air compressor help
sportandmiah replied to bandit1's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Just buy the Chinese Harbor Freight small airbrush compressor. I recently bought one and its super quiet. Best 70 clams I've ever spent. -
I have sprayed Tamiya,Testors,Rustoleum, etc...but all were thinned to the consistency of.skim milk. Almost any properly thinned paint should spray. I did have some clogging issues with Testors metallic but it was due to me not thinning enough.

Don't sweat getting a better brush. The one you have is fine. Just because it's inexpensive doesn't make it bad. Practice with it until your skills improve. It's a perfectly fine airbrush that most people turn their noses up at.

Help ID this old small compressor

Yup, it is very quiet. Figures, I bought a Harbor Freight mini airbrush compressor a month ago...never hurts to have too many tools I suppose. -
Help ID this old small compressor
sportandmiah replied to sportandmiah's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Spent 19 bucks on a drain valve and a regulator, and wallah..a new airbrush compressor! It has a maximum of 25 psi, but has no auto shutoff. Works great! -
I have the same airbrush. Its a decent double.action, but it has a 0.3 opening which is why it clogs so easy with Createx. You can thin it easily with water, rubbing alcohol, and.even windex. It will flow good after thinning, but im afraid for.modeling it will be too runny. I.now.use.my Paasche H with the 5 tip with no problems. If you are dead set on using the harbor.freight.airbrush, try a different type of enamel or maybe testors or tamiya acrylic.

Alclad questions
sportandmiah replied to sportandmiah's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I ran my fingernail over the alclad after a few hours, very lightly, and it removed it. Are you not supposed to touch this stuff once applied? Do i have to scrape off alclad to glue parts? I know its advisable with chrome and paint, but what about alclad? -

LOL...you would cringe if you saw the rest of the track. -
I tested some Alclad II Chome on some scrap sprue yesterday and have a few questions: 1. Once sprayed over black enamel, is it permanent once dried? Or can it be wiped off? 2. Can parts that have Alclad chrome be glue together? Or do i have to scrape some of it off in order for the glue to stick? 3. Alclad Klear Kote...is.this a clear coat for paint or is it a clear for Alclad chrome, aluminum, etc?

This belonged to my grandfather. Its a small Campbell Hausfeld air compressor. It won't inflate car tires, but.probably bike tires. Curious if.anyone knows what model this might be. There are no other markings other than the make. Im thinking.it could.be usesd.for a small model airbrush compressor wih he proper attachments. The earmuffs are there so ou can see he size of the compressor. Thanks

Thanks for the details Scalenut! When you use the blow drier, what are the times in between? How many coats does it take until you are done or semi-glossy? -

What airbrush do you use? I have a Paasche H with the 1,3, and 5 tip. Can you take us through the process you use? I really want to learn how to properly paint car bodies using Creatix. -
