  1. I decided to do some preliminary work on the Mustang before the weather gets too cold to paint outside. If you've ever seen or built this kit, you'll know the body is covered in sink marks that need to be filled. Once these were sanded down, I applied the first coat of primer/sealer. The chassis was then painted semi gloss black, the exhaust and fuel tank painted Testors silver, and then weathered using an acrylic craft paint wash. I found a color chart for the 1966 Mustang on the Internet and it appears that my car was painted code Z - Sauterne Gold Poly. I'm hoping I can get the local auto parts store to mix up a batch of this color in a spray can. This will not be a "showroom" style build. I will try to reproduce the car as if it has been in service for a while.... thus the weathering on the chassis and using the very basic kit molding. As a "nostalga" build, I won't get into too much detailing. What I'll be striving for is the look of the car as I remember it.
  2. For what it's worth..... how about giving the rear "deck" and the ribs a high gloss, mahogany, varnished finish? Kinda like the wood bodied cars of the thirties........ or maybe that would really make it look like a speedboat/amphicar. Just a thought...... perhaps not a very good one? Tony
  3. Super build Nick! Can't wait to see her finished....... Tony
  4. Hey Nick...... I can't think of any more superlatives that haven't already been said....... One helluva great build my friend!!!! Tony
  5. Wow Niko......... I've restored a few glue bombs....... but never anything as bad as these! I've been watching your progress over the year(s) and I'm really impressed with what you've achieved. These are the ultimate challenge to your skills and I'll be watching with interest. Well done.
  6. As I said, I've built a whole bunch of Mustangs including a blue AMT '66 Coupe, but never a model of the new '66 I actually owned. Here's a picture of me, age 23, taken in June/July1966, the proud owner of a brand new Mustang Coupe, complete with Buddy Holly glasses and pointy (in style) shoes. It had a 289, automatic, spinner hub caps, AM radio, black vinyl interior and that's about it. (Some neat vintage tin in the background!) If you guys can stop laughing for a minute, this will be the basis of my entry into this CBP and a historic memory to add to my collection of Mustang models. Hopefully I can find a source for the factory paint color.
  7. Wish my niece would give me a G scale engine like that. Wait a minute........ I don't have any nieces....... Oh well!! Another interesting concept Miguel.
  8. That's really cool, Terry. I respect your interest in architecture. It can be a fascinating subject to study until it gets down to the "nitty gritty" of having to make a living at it. Nothing like you see on TV, with the (architect) hero designing fantastic buildings and running around with hot chicks in hot cars! In reality it's usually a constant fight with building owners and contractors, nickeling and dimeing each other..... with you stuck in the middle, taking anti-stress pills! But I digress! Your impressive design will build into a great dio.... keep at it. Tony
  9. Newly built, so clean and ready for it's first customer. Wonder how long it will stay that clean.........?? Nice work as usual, Barbo.
  10. No disrespect intended and I'm certainly impressed with your work here....... but, what is a "self taught architect". As a retired architect myself.... I'm just curious what you mean? Tony
  11. I'm glad to see you opened this CBP, Stephen. I've been quietly watching and following the other Mustang CBP's and dying to get one of my First generation builds going, but I'm running into time allocation problems. As some of you know from previous threads, I operate a small Automotive museum and I've been concentrating on constructing dioramas and 1/32 scale veteran, vintage and antique vehicles to illustrate the evolution of transportation. This doesn't give me much time to participate in these Mustang CBP's even though the 'Tangs of all eras are my first love. I did manage to squeeeeeze in a couple of Foxes in that CBP a while back (way back!). I've already built about 12 or so first gen's. But......... I will see if I can at least get a start on one of the other many first gen. kits in my stash, even though it may be a slow build! Just to decide on which one! Tony
  12. Great to see all these new Mustang CBP's! I've got too much "on my plate" right now to participate, but I'm glad it's open ended, as I'd love to get in later. I have the AMT Mustang II "python", the MPC FireFighter and the AMT "New" Mustang II (which I believe is the original 1974(?) release...... (Kit #T455). I'm not a great lover of the Mustang II, but after all, it's a Mustang! So this is a thread I'll be following with great interest. Keep up this great thread guys. Tony
  13. Breathtaking,......! Incredible styling and construction. Can't help feeling you're creating the ultimate "Amphicar".... and I mean that in the most awesome way! Tony
  14. Going to be following this one with interest Nick. I have this kit at the top of my "next builds" pile, so It will be interesting to follow yours along before I start mine. Tony
  15. A very innovative and interesting start Rachael. It's already looking like a rock crawling or similar dio foundation. I can't wait to see where it's heading and what you have in mind.... then we may be able to throw some suggestions to you if you need advice. Tony
  16. Really nice work Ryan. Great job on the interior. Keep us posted on progress. Tony
  17. What about the 1964 1/2 to 1966, the 1967 to 1968, the 1969 to 1970, the 1971 to 1973 (maybe all these years as a group), and the 1974 to 1978 Mustang II's? I know there are a lot of individual builds already on the forum, but there's always room for new builds for Mustang lovers. I would have started a CPB on any (or all) of these, but other commitments make that impossible right now. Maybe someone else has the interest and inspiration? That would be neat! Any takers?
  18. Excellent.... a pleasure to see.... thanks for posting it. Tony
  19. Hi Brad....... Finally get to see all those Foxes that you've been teasing us with.... and all at the same time, too! What happened to your overseas trip? Have you already gone and come back? I'm looking forward to more of your T-top build..... I made some clear styrene tops for mine but had problems glueing the outer edge to the clear plastic..... it's an edge to edge situation and a very weak joint. (I cut the remains of the roof to get the edge pieces, if you follow my drift.) I couldn't make them in one piece from clear styrene due to the compound curves. Monogram's Camaro Z28 and '78 Trans Am kits have smoked T-Tops in them........ hmmmm...... wonder if they could be modified to fit? If you find a way to create yours..... I'll be watching... and trying to get some of my 1/32 scale antique and vintage cars and diarama builds for my museum finished...... so I can get back to a couple of Foxes! But I'll still be watching this and the SN95 threads from "behind the scenes", Good to see so many other Mustang guys joining in now. I have a few SN95 kits waiting for me as well.... I don't think I have enough years left!!! Tony
  20. I just noticed those Shelby style "side scoops". Where did you find them? I could use a set on my '99. Tony
  21. Hey guys........ I didn't intend to ruffle a whole bunch of feathers. Apologies to all those of you that I unintentionally did. Jairus..... you make a good point about diarama building not necessarily having to have a car in it. I guess I just expected that it should somehow relate to cars because of what I thought this "model cars" forum is all about. In fact I did comment that I liked the dio even though I just didn't understand it. (I'm so old I'm just not up to date on all these weird (to me) type plastic figures...... Now that everyone has explained it... I feel about sixty years younger!) Neil..... no disrespect was intended. Keep 'em coming....... Tony
  22. Now ... that's what I call a cooooool diarama!!!!!! Great stuff. Tony
  23. I'm just an old fart, maybe not up to scratch with all this kind of stuff....... but what has this got to do with model cars? ("Model Cars Magazine Forum") I can appreciate the work you've put into it though...... so maybe it's just me. If so, then I apologise for my lack of understanding. Tony
  24. Interesting........ but I think you're in the wrong forum........
