  1. I have been told - and it could be bad info - that some early drag cars used pressurized fuel tanks, and that is the assumption I used for this build. I got that info when I was building my Miss Deal. The engine in that kit, unlike a typical race hemi has no provision for the fuel pump sticking out the front of the block. I was told that you could build up suitable pressure for a run just using a bike-type pump. I have found a reference for using a hand pump for building up fuel tank pressure in this link. http://www.roadsters.com/coupe/ Scroll almost all the way to the bottom, or search on that page for "hand fuel pump" and you will find the reference. I will do some more searching for references later. Chris
  2. My concept for this build was for an Altered that could have been on display on the auto show circuit in the early/mid '60s (thus the fully chromed engine.) This build has an AMT Parts Pack body, AMT/Stevens Parts Pack Pontiac engine (with the scoop from the Revell Parts Pack Pontiac), a Bantam Blast chassis, and wheels and tires from various sources. Decals are ink-jet, the paint is Testors One Coat blue, with One Coat wetlook clear. Chris
  3. I think that Miss Deal is a classic kit, and is really only Miss Deal if painted blue and green. However, I wanted a twist on those colors, so did a Swirladelic paint job, my first since 1974, when I was just 14. I am pleased how it came out, although seeing as this is a funny car, I would have liked the swirls a bit bolder. It is painted with Testors Sublime Green and Bright Blue enamels, with Testors One Coat Clear to finish it. Chris
  4. Phil Castronovo's first Custom Body funny car was a '69 or '70 Mini Charger. Whoopee Kat made a small sheet for that car, but when I got the sheet, I did not the quality was high enough to make it worth using. I have thought of scanning in the decals and then trying to improve them with Corel Draw, but without an Alps printer, I don't think the decals can be done. Chris
  5. It is from the Spotlighthobbies board. Hopefully this link takes you right to the photo with the Hawaiian. http://public.fotki.com/predmond/model_cars/nnls/2010-toledo-nnl-nat/nnl31-178-jpg.html
  6. One of the "other" model car boards has a picture of the Revell Hawaiian taken at the Toledo NNL today. A couple interesting observations: 1)Rear wheel wells are a different shape than the Chi Town Hustler's. Whether they are right or wrong I don't know, but they are angled instead of rounded. Not sure about whether the front wheel well shape is different than the CTH and I am too lazy to go to the basement to get my CTH for comparison. 2) The Hawaiian has the offset roof hatch from the CTH. A few minutes with some putty and that is solved. I don't know if the Hawaiian had a roof hatch at all. 3) It looks to have the correct bugcatcher. That is as much of a review as I can give from the one photo of the car. Looking fwd to picking it up!!! I am giving Revell lots of thumbs up for the great releases they are coming out with. The CTH really takes the cake. Whoever thought we'd get an offset chassis like that in 2010?? Go Revell! Chris
