The idea behind this project is to amass a reference library containing reference photos of Muscle Car era Mopars, to aide in replicating and model car building. I've found that when I get into a project I spend a large amount of time searching through personal photo galleries and online sources like google and eBay trying to find pictures of specific detail items that are generally hard to locate. My hope is that this database might save others just a little bit of time, or provide material that might be hard to find otherwise. Please note, pictures contained herein are those that I've taken personally, saved from eBay auctions, or images from other online sources. If you find errors please email or PM me and and I will correct. My thought is that this will be an organic site, with new pictures and information being added as I run across it. http://www.modelcardesigns.com/Reference/

Does Detroit Autorama still have a model car contest?
ian ashton replied to ian ashton's topic in Contests and Shows
Nope, it's been about 10 years or so since he ran the toy show. We ran the basement for a few years, then they let him go all together. Now he owns/runs this show (with partners, of course): www.MCACN.com -
Got some work done on the engine: I'm kinda disappointed with the 6 Pack carbs from AMT, not a ton of detail. I tried to jazz 'em up a little, good enough I guess: I also got the AMT '74 Cuda interior from a member here, which will be worlds better than using the Challenger stuff. Test fitting: Removing the trans tunnel, since this car does not have a center console: Fitting the colsole-less tunnel into the interior: A little rough filling - not super picky on this since it will all be Fuzzy Fur'd:

Does Detroit Autorama still have a model car contest?
ian ashton replied to ian ashton's topic in Contests and Shows
The answer is yes, if anyone was curious. -
Yea, I noticed you made the '70 body after I already started chopping the Johan, no worries. Tom's collection is NUTS! I can't believe he sold the white '70 Hemi Cuda, that car was amazing, and I still cant believe I was able to drive it! My dads been to his storage area and seen all the toys, I've only seen the cars he broght to our show. Super nice and unassuming guy for sure - people like him give me goals and encouragement to rock out at the career, to fund the hobby.

Are all Testors 1 Coat paints metallic?

Yea, looking for solid, not metallic. I'll check out the Tamiya tomorrow, thanks! -
Are all Testors 1 Coat paints metallic?
ian ashton replied to ian ashton's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Well that explains it! Thanks! -
I just sprayed some '1832M Blazing Black', which on the cap is depicted as a solid black, however in reality is a metallic. I now presume the "M" in the part number stands for Metallic? What annoys me is that there were 2 choices, one labeled as Metallic, and this one. I chose this because there is no mention of metallic, and it definately is just solid black on the cap. Looks like I'm back to Duplicolor on this build... Is it possible I got a mislabeled can, or are they all metallic? The reason why I ask is because I have 5 other colors, and I just realized every one is very heavy metallic.

More work to the tail panel: More shaping up in the front end, filled in the fog light buckets: Fender wells glued into place: Also got a chance to spray some color on the engine and misc. chassis parts: And some detail painting started: Engine & Trans: I'm using a M.A.D. Modeling distributor (which is beautiful, by the way). I added the vacuum advance thing from the Revell '68 Charger dizzy:

How did you do the raised white letters? They look amazing!

Thanks! Paint will be just like the pic in the first post, black with a blue interior.

Very Interesting...

Distribution is one thing, but every car magazine editor I know will tell you content deadlines are the hardest part of the job. I'm positive that is one (if not THE) reason why they are late with new issues. Producing a magazine like that with quality content 9 times a year is a ton of work. Quality contributors = quality product -

Probably not, aside from that post I'll probably never talk about it again, and I'm sure I'll keep buying it, lol. -

I've never seen a copy of Model Cars Magazine, but I bought my first copy of SA in at least 13 years on Friday and was terribly disappointed. It seems like 50% of the 60 pages were ads. The entire thing felt like a supplement that they'd give away at shows, not like a magazine I'd pay $6 (the most expensive of the 5 I bought and the least number of pages) for on the news stand. The content was weak, nice photography, but show coverage was slim and who wants a tutorial in building a complete kit? Id prefer individual tips amd tricks rather than a step by step on how to duplicate something someone else has already built. Their forum is also pretty lame. I'm going to subscribe to MCM because I like the forum, support those that support you. This forum is free, as is emodelcars - has anyone priced out hosting costs for a high traffic site like this? Its not free, thats for sure You guys complain like a group of little girls. If you don't like something step up to change it - write an article and submit it. Nobody forces you to read, post, or subscribe. If ya don't like it, move on, there are lots of hobbies out there, I just like mine to be fun.
